Penn State Womens Hockey

Re: Penn State Womens Hockey

I'm pretty sure that BC does not have a "no Canadians" policy. There are Canadians on the Men's team now.

Re: Penn State Womens Hockey

goaliedad35 - I dug up the BC women's rosters going back through the 1999-2000 season and BC has had two International student athletes, both Canadians, on their roster during that span. I could not find the rosters for their first 5 years in the ECAC (1994-95 thru 1998-99 seasons). They joined Hockey East in the 2002-'03 season.

Lindsay Wright '08 - Defense - Calgary, Alberta / PSA Roughriders

Bronwen Kelly - Forward - Mississauga, Ontario / Lorne Park Secondary
Two sport athlete, played 1 year of hockey '01-'02 as a frosh and 4 years of field hockey...and no, I did not get the name backwards;)

Much like it is with the roster, nobody official is saying squat about the new uniforms, except that Nike is the one who is designing them. I'm anxious to see what they come up with, too.

I know the coach was very excited about them and said that they were going to be great. We will see.

Aside from that, how does one go about getting tickets to home and away games? is there such a thing as season tickets? How much? When and where can we purchase them????

Re: Penn State Womens Hockey

If you want season tickets for 2013-14 when the Pegula Arena opens, you can contact Joel Diamond at 814-867-2557 or email him at jud19@psu.edu. They haven't announced anything about tickets for the upcoming 2012-13 tickets yet. Since they have to play one last season at the Ice Pavilion, I don't think much of anything will change with ticket prices just because they'll be D-1.

This is how they sold tickets last season, and it should stay the same, but you can contact them to ask: http://php.scripts.psu.edu/clubs/up/psuicers/tickets.php

Re: Penn State Womens Hockey

I doubt very much that the final roster will be much bigger than 22. Zero point in having more than 12-7-3. You can sit a few players in the stands for a few games, but eventually they get peeved and either leave or start causing problems if they don't see the ice.

My bet is still that the final roster will be at 22, or will end up there by the end of the first half of the season. I think you will find that there are hopeful players that find that they aren't at the speed and skill level required to compete at D1 and don't like or want to spend time as a practice player and sit in the stands on game day.
Both comments are insightful, accurate and certainly what should be expected in the usual case. Another thing to keep in mind: Historically Women's teams have had a somewhat more difficult time retaining "practice-only" players than the corresponding Men's teams.

Naturally it's possible that Penn State will be able to buck the trend. But if PSU really retains a group of 25-30 happy campers for the full inaugural season, they will indeed be the exception to the general rule.

Well, we're at 22 known right now (13 forwards, 8 defensemen, and 1 goalie). That's four lines plus, but still short of two more goalies. Coach Brandwene has emphasized many times about recruiting players as much for their fit at Penn State as recruiting them solely on hockey talent....take that for what it means. He might be bringing some who are more interested in a Penn State degree than they are in a chance to play a lot of D-1 hockey. Do teams usually pad the roster with some practice players?

Practice goalies yes. Players usually not. Nomally a coach might have 4 line plus one or two in case of injury is my take.

My experience is that most Division 1 teams (Ivies aside) typically have 2-5 players in the stands every game, often incuding one goalie.

Agree most schools have 2-3 in the stands. But I don't feel they're practice players. Most coaches rotate in those players.

Re: Penn State Womens Hockey

UMD announced today that they'll play the 2012-13 season with six players because they don't need any more than that.
