Re: Osama bin Laden Declared Dead

We still yet to roll up... Zawahiri... like bin Laden, his significance is diminished due to the lack of capability of AQ-Pakistan. Zawahiri is as much of a leader as bin Laden but not the headliner.... Mullah Omar, Taliban leader.... his significance outside of the region is minor... inside the region pretty good.

I think neither have much capabilities in the west... I'd say former Fairfax, VA resident Awlaki is a bigger threat for that... but if they can roll up some of the others that'd be nice. Of course, I'd like them (the administration) to stop stonewalling the Hassan case. We'll see.

Yup. Kill 'em all. With that traitor Awlaki at the top of the list. And we've got just the dudes to do it. Head shots to those Somali pirate (at sea, no less) and a head shot here. Some very capable dudes dedicating their lives to defending and protecting us. For that we should give thanks to God. For some idea of what the young men who belong to our elite forces go through, check out that series on The Military Channel called "making the cut." Those guys are all heroic.

No doubt he wants the long-form death certificate.

Honestly, let's just bomb the bejeezus out of all that oppose us, and shut down otherwise. It was a mistake that we kinda made ourselves the police of this world, but since we did just that, let's use it to our full benefit (without becoming a Hitler or Stalin, etc). If you are friendly, even if only because of business or otherwise? We cool. If you want to oppose us? Get familiar with massive radiation. You're gonna need it.

Don't get me wrong. I don't think we should have made ourselves the world police. But we did. Let's accept that responsibility that we claimed and have a hard stance. Don't namby pamby around.

Re: Osama bin Laden Declared Dead

Fox is reporting they've seen the photos of OBL's body, with a bullet hole right between the antlers. And it was SEALS again! I'm with Brent, this moment doesn't make up for 9/11, but it's still a great moment. If not us, who? If not now, when?

In my days in the AF, we had a general response to international problems: "Nuke 'em 'till they glow."

Re: Osama bin Laden Declared Dead

Live-blogging the attack:

Helicopter hovering above Abbottabad at 1AM (is a rare event).
A huge window shaking bang here in Abbottabad Cantt. I hope its not the start of something nasty :-S
the few people online at this time of the night are saying one of the copters was not Pakistani...
Since taliban (probably) don't have helicpoters, and since they're saying it was not "ours", so must be a complicated situation
Funny, moving to Abbottabad was part of the 'being safe' strategy

Interesting rumors in the otherwise uneventful Abbottabad air today
I think the helicopter crash in Abbottabad, Pakistan and the President Obama breaking news address are connected.

Re: Osama bin Laden Declared Dead

This is allegedly the photo of Bin Laden dead. It might be a fake, I have no idea. It's pretty gruesome so I'm going to link to it rather than post it. Click at your own discretion.

Yeah, anything at this point in time I'm going tonassume is fake until proven other wise.

Re: Osama bin Laden Declared Dead

Man, I've never seen Osama look so good. Turns out all it took to wipe that smirk off his face (forever) is one well placed round. If we bury him as sea, does that mean we can't feed him into a wood chipper first?

Re: Osama bin Laden Declared Dead

I don't want that ****er buried where I'll be working. Eff that. Bury him at the top of Mt. Everest. Only a handful of people will go visit his frozen carcass every year as a result.

The reporting now is that he has already been buried at sea. Fish food. And that the pictures floating around the net ARE fake. No doubt we took some photos, evidently those we've seen so far aren't them. Darn. Oh well, it's nice to have something to look forward to.

Re: Osama bin Laden Declared Dead

I'm just glad this happened:

a) while a Democrat was in the White House, and
b) 18 months away from an election

Should keep the conspiracy rumblings to a minimum from both sides.

On the other hand, is anyone else a little disturbed that this went down in a specially constructed mansion about a 75 mile drive from Isalamabad rather than in a ratty little cave up in the mountains? I know we're not supposed to say anything to offend Pakistan (along the lines of Lincoln's not freeing the slaves in the border states), but come on, now...

Pakistan has nukes, which influences much of our approach to them. Their intelligence service (ISI) is apparantly infested with Islamists. And Dr. A. Q. Kahn did do his best to help Iran become nuclear. I'd love to kick them to the curb, but I don't think that's a realistic option. Certainly it's reasonable to infer some official collusion based on the location of the "compound," hiding in plain sight as it were. Give our intelligence people a huge pat on the back. They get some sort of vague tip about this place. Patiently do their due dilligence (for months) checking it out and staking it out. The next thing you know, Bin Laden's stopping a bullet with his face. Nicely done. Professionalism of the highest degree. Note to self: don't ******* with the SEALs.

Re: Osama bin Laden Declared Dead

Congrats on feeling good for yourself.

I think not wanting to defile his corpse is probably a good idea, and it has nothing to do with feeling good for ones self.

(1) Defiling his body would be the best thing we can possibly to do for al Qaeda's recruiting.
(2) We're supposed to be the civilized ones, otherwise we're just fighting for self-preservation and nothing more.
(3) Burial at sea without unnecessary defilement seems like a good compromise, yes?
(4) Those of us who go through the trouble of believing in God and the concept of the afterlife know that there's nothing we can do to him that can compare to what he's got waiting for him for all of eternity. It's like ****ing in the gas tank of a totaled car after an accident.

We'll find out in due course. But I'm wondering, seriously, if there's a Muslim protocol for burial at sea. I doubt it. Do we just roll his corpse off the fantail of a garbage skow? Shoot his a*s out of a torpedo tube (making sure we've weighted him down, like the rest of the garbage)? Flush him with the rest of the sh*t from a carrier? I was going to suggest that Fr Guido Sarducci preside at any ceremony, but it's too late for that.

Re: Osama bin Laden Declared Dead

It's hard for me to be excited about this after 10 years.

I mean, I'm happy he is no longer a threat. But I don't feel like he's meant anything to AQ for a long time as far as leadership. He's been too busy hiding. Obviously people with families affected by 9/11 or in the military will feel a lot of satisfaction in this.

This got me to thinking that 9/11/2001 is coming up on a decade away. Has it really been almost 10 years? But really though, im glad we got em.

I am not too shocked he was in a mansion. If you were hiding from the U.S would you really want them to know you were in a mansion? I’d play it off like I was in the middle of nowhere. After all, “ all war is deception”.

I’ll be curious to see what happens next. We have a ton of problems to deal with domestically like unemployment and the falling US dollar. Its nice to see the U.S get something under the “W” column though!
