Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

Gives me something to think about. Thanks.

The current Xbox360 slim model they have been selling for a couple years comes with wireless built in. Also, strong industry wide belief is late 2013 releases for both the new Xbox and PS. Game developers have had early build kits since around the beginning of this year.
If they were gonna release late 2013 then they would've announced them at E3 in May. They didn't and I don't see MS or Sony announcing at the Tokyo Game Show (maybe Sony, maybe). And I don't see them saying "Here's the PS4/XBox 720, it'll be out in November!"
As is, we're probably looking at 2014 if that.

In case you missed it. Forza 4 has a Porsche expansion pack out. 1600 pts, or if you are VIP, 1200 pts.

There are now 30 Porsche in the game.

Gran Turismo 5 takes forever and a day to even play. Jesus Christ. I started the game an hour and a half ago. It is still installing data. This after installing other data and needing to do six updates before it could even load.

After the initial update when I got the game, the updates haven't been bad at all. A few seconds, maybe. But yes, that initial update sucks.

Wouldn't charging money to use copyrighted characters be a sure way to get the entire thing shut down and a lawsuit slapped on them?

I must say this. I don't understand the My Little Pony thing. And this coming from somebody who only watches the show because his 3 year old daughter watches it.

Runic will announce the release date for Torchlight 2 on Aug 31st at PAX.

They have been very Blizzard-esque and not giving a firm date. Although they have said "by the end of summer".

Pre-ordered Borderlands 2. Went with the standard ed. $100 for a bobblehead and art book ill never use was a bit steep for the limited.

And they announce September 20th as the release date. Gee the last day of Summer.

There's nothing to understand. It's a completely non-self-referential meme -- usage is a pointer to everything except My Little Pony.

If Luigi Pirandello had a Twitter account, it would be called "Not My Little Pony."

Well. Non il mio piccolo pony. But you get the idea.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

So apparently there's a ROM hack of Sonic 2 that replaces the rings with onion rings. If you collect too many, Sonic starts to get fat and slows down and can't jump as high or spin dash. Eventually he can't move and dies of a heart attack.

So basically it's impossible to beat the game?

No, there are special monitors that make you lose weight, and you can lose weight over time by running.

That's the really neat part: the game is still winnable, and it ties in really well to gameplay. You just have to balance picking up rings for protection against getting fat and being unable to move, and you can't rip through sections and pick up tons of rings or you'll die.

Oh, and sometimes Tails will smash a ring box and kill you.

Don't forget the new X-COM the first week in October, which looks to be the spiritual successor to the original classic. If it's even half as fun as the original, it should be money well spent.

So, my Tiger Woods 12 game is not connecting the the EA servers (not a big deal), but it freezes the game in the process. If I get lucky enough to hit "cancel" before the process starts, the game freezes on the way to the main menu.

Netflix on the PS3 is still working fine. Any ideas?

Ugh. None of these intrigue me. (Halo 4 would if I had a 360.)

We'll see what the NHL 13 demo has for gameplay. Maybe I'll get it then.

PSN had scheduled maintenance last night (9/10). The game shouldn't freeze, but that is why you couldn't connect most likely.

Tried my GT5 game right after I posted. Worked fine. If my Tiger game is screwed, I'm never buying that title again. First the DLC, then this? That would be enough for me.
