Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

I really do love the world they built for SWTOR. Everything feels big and each planet has a distinct feel to it. And then there are references and just absurd things all over.

Taris from the original KOTOR.

Why yes that is a 75 ft high golden statue of a Hutt surrounded by a moat of some kind of golden liquid the common people are willing to jump into.

No Pazaak as far as I can tell. /sadface

Is that the new(ish) MMO?
Yes.

Biggest flaw with it is the light/dark side decisions since it's usually stupidly good or absurdly evil. There is no in between and even decisions that will ultimately prove to be evil or are just subtlety evil can be put as light side.

IIRC, didn't the old KotOR games allow you to be somewhat in between as a sort of mercenary? I remember spending more than a few hours playing I and II.

This does as well but many of the quests end in decisions that give you light or dark side points, nearly all are lack any kind of subtlety. There are some weapons and armor that require a certain level of it and it affects how your companions feel about you. So it's not a huge thing gameplay wise but a bit jarring.

For those playing Simpsons Tapped Out, get the update. It's gone completely bananas.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

The number of game/movie/meme/etc. references in Borderlands 2 is ridiculous. Everywhere you turn there is another one.

So far i've seen myself or via video from others:
- Double Rainbow (meme)
- Donkey Mong enemy (Donkey Kong)
- Minecraft area (Minecraft)
- Solaire and a ghost (Dark Souls)
- Flinter, Lee, Dan, Mick, Ralph (TMNT)
- Loggins (Top Gun)
- Geary (LOTR)

Halloween update that just dumps a ton of stuff on you all at once.

Plus zombies.
Sadly, not an Android game (yet).

For the Simpsons Tapped Out players in attendance, the answer to the Mayan's trivia question is

The new X-Com game comes out tomorrow. If you pre-purchase it on Steam, you get a free copy of Civ V as well.

The demo definitely makes it look like a worthy successor to the original.

That was on the Tree House of Horror 23 that was on this weekend.

I picked up NCAA 12 for $8 a couple of weeks ago. Considering the last version of this game I owned was (I think) 09, it's pretty awesome and I don't really care that it's out of date. (Doubly so since I mainly want to play in Dynasty mode so the out-of-date current players don't really matter to me.)

Anyone else playing FIFA 13 and having massive freezing issues?

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

Beat Borderlands 2 last night, co-op with my gf. We played about a third of the game together, and the rest separately. But were always within 1 level of each other. Was level 31 when I started the last mission(s), and ended up halfway through 32 just doing the last area and final fights. Now I am working on Vault Hunter Mode (i.e. much harder) and am level 33.

Fairly challenging even with all the upgrades you start with from the first play through. I assume as I get near level 50 it will become much easier again.

Well, nice to see they're about to ruin Forza.

Finally getting around to Dead Space 2 and how Isaac is an awesomely awesome space badass. Unlike image host sites now that continually downsize my screenshots.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

I'll have to try the Horizon demo before I pass judgement.

It's pretty sweet, it just feels like it got in a fight with EA and lost. Flashy presentation, dubstep, voiceovers that try way too hard to be "cool," etc. They arcaded up the handling too (e-brake drifts, etc.)

If it were Need for Speed: Horizon, it'd be pretty decent. It's Forza. It just doesn't feel right.
