Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

It's pretty sweet, it just feels like it got in a fight with EA and lost. Flashy presentation, dubstep, voiceovers that try way too hard to be "cool," etc. They arcaded up the handling too (e-brake drifts, etc.)

If it were Need for Speed: Horizon, it'd be pretty decent. It's Forza. It just doesn't feel right.
It seems every racing series is going either NFS or Burnout these days. The newest Ridge Racer and this new Forza as prime examples.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

Spoilers

Entering into a gauntlet style boss fight with this for ammo. Alternative to trying to get through this with luck vs to go back and redo another gauntlet where you fend off a monster that can't die.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Hmm, perhaps it's time to go back to Rapture for a refresher.

Tiny Tower. JFC. This game is going to get someone killed.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

If you play both the Forza Horizon demo and full game by 11:59 PM on Nov 30th you get a free car (Viper?) with special livery (paint job).

If you play just the full game by 11:59 pm on Nov 2nd, you get a free car (Saleen?) thats fully upgraded.

I hate phone tower games.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

Forza Horizon gave me 7 extra free cars for player loyalty (owning previous games), as well as an achievement for it. Also picked up the 2 free cars previously mentioned for playing the game and demo before a certain date.

Downloaded the original Roller Coaster Tycoon (+2 expansions) as I've been having an urge to play it for a while.

Forgot how much I loved this game. Had the game for 4 days, and I've done the first 4 scenarios. Didn't mean to finish all 3 years in the latest two in one night...but the game's so addicting and time flies.

I love playing RCT3 with its 2 expansions.

Does this work on a mac? I remember trying to play Railroad Tycoon but the emulator would split it into two different games on a mac and made it unplayable.

Couldn't find my copy of Locomotion so I bought it off Atari for $10 again. Have been having a blast playing it for the last two months. Found a bunch of geeks with time on their hands who had (legally) modded the game to allow for real life locomotion livery and rolling stock, along with mods to industries to create unique game play.

The Chris Sawyer Roller Coaster Tycoon and Locomotion games are great.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

Heading out in a bit to TRU with the kid and his friend to pick up copies of COD: BO_II

Edit: Got there are 11:35, allowed in store 11:40 (it was raining fairly hard). 4th and 5th in line. Out by about 12:05 with games(s), poster, T-shirt, and patch. Drove by long line at mall about 12:10.

Broke down and picked up Forza <strike>Hipster</strike> Horizon. Moar wub wub. It's as advertised. Which is pretty darn cool, admittedly.

Also talked myself into the new NFS Most Wanted, considering its predecessor was partially responsible for landing me on ac pro in college. Plays a lot like Burnout Paradise with cops - stunt areas, jumps, smashable billboards/gates, secret stuff, etc. No need to buy cars, they're all hidden around the city from the start and you just have to find them, then you can just hop in them and take off.

One of the best features is the ability to just drive around and do nothing.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

The Bugatti EB110 is pretty darn fast, and it's free since it's a barn find.

Then you discover the tuning shop will let you drop a Veyron engine in it. For about $25K. Even less if you've hit some of the discount signs.

The end result will hit 275 MPH in about 20 seconds.

Also, don't hit an MP4-12C head-on at 200. You will not crash. You will RAMP.

I found the Master's Collectors Edition of Tiger Woods Golf 13 for $20 on clearance at Target. It has 20 extra courses instead of buying them as DLC.

I had no intention of buying the game at full price since I have the 2012 edition.

Oooo. If that means you can actually have a full career without DLC, I might go get that.

Bought this myself as I loved the original, it just doesn't feel like an NFS game let alone Most Wanted. They should've called it Burnout: Pursuit or something. Ignoring that, it's a fun game and I like it beyond that one (huge) complaint.

Also succumb to Brony By Fatherhood (c) and got the MLP iOS game. It's quite fun.

Plowed through the Most Wanted list in a weekend. Game could have been deeper. Maybe 20-25 cars on the list and have tiers/license levels like Paradise. The jackspots turn out to be kinda pointless once you get into the Most Wanted cars. Once you get into the top few there's no sense in driving anything else (they suck off road, but they're so fast otherwise it doesn't matter.)

Also, the AI is cheaper than Mitt Romney in a whorehouse. And whoever did the pre-race bumpers was on some pretty potent stuff.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

So the Wii U. Clearly I am missing something because I don't get the concept of a video screen on the controller when there is a TV in front of you.

I'm not really sold on it either, but it's supposed to allow more simultaneous content for certain games. I would think this applies to games like the Zelda franchise. You'd have the game being played on the TV while at the same time you'd have Link's various weapons and supplies on the controller screen. Then, as they show in the ads, if you're playing a game and someone else wants to use the TV, you can switch to using the controller like a Gameboy.
