Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

Looking back on it, I'm surprised Nintendo went with motion control only for the Wii. Did they not think Sony and Microsoft would find an add-on for the consoles?

I'd buy a Mario-kart game for the PS3. I'm not going to buy a whole new console for it though, especially when the only Wii games I've liked are Mario-kart and Wii Sports.

This pretty much sums up my feelings on Nintendo.

I still remember when I played a Sonic game for the first time on a Nintendo console. Weird at first to be sure.

Steam Summer Sale started this week. Goes through July 22nd.

Playing Rainbow Moon (PS3, $14.99). A fun little SRPG.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

Picked up Tiger Woods 12/Masters (since I am not even close to playing games enough to spend $50-$60 on a game that's only a year newer). It's fun, but mother*ing putting is a b*tch. Plus, I'm stuck where I can't play the first tourney on the PGA tour in career mode, because I don't qualify (unless I pass all the Masters' Challenges). Very frustrating there. A total grind trying to build up my player.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

So, I skip the first event on the PGA tour, f the points, so I can continue my career. I win the next event. But I cannot play the next event because I haven't shelled out MORE money to buy the next course?!

So, to complete the BASIC events of the game, I have to pay MORE than the original purchase price?! WTeFF is this Sh*?!?!?! You have to be kidding me. This cannot be. If it is, f* gaming. f* it all. I understand buying bonuses to the game, or additional things that enhance the game, but to buy stuff that is essential to the BASIC GOAL OF THE GAME?:mad::mad::mad:

Like I've been saying, DLC is going to be the death of the industry. It is our generation's E.T. the Extraterrestrial. Eventually it's going to be too much.

I would understand it if it were say, 10 bucks to buy the basic game, and for any enhancements it's more. But that's not the case in this particular game (Tiger Masters). GT5 (my only other PS3 game) has a nice balance. You can finish the game, and still have seasonal (free) events, but you CAN buy more to enhance the game. But if this is the way that this Tiger game is....that's money I pretty much wasted.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

That's EA for you.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

I preordered Guild Wars 2. Diablo III ended up being a steaming pile of.............

The tour has a mix of both course you get with the game and courses that are add ons. You just have to skip the ones you don't own.

You weren't supposed to skip the first event. :p

I had no choice, unless I completed all the Masters' challenges! (see earlier rant)

Oh right, because the season opening event requires qualification from the previous season. Been awhile since I played '12.

But, you still should be able to skip to events you own courses for.

This. And while I haven't messed around too much with single player, if it is realistic enough, you should still be able to get enough fedex cup points playing a partial schedule.

Either way, it's bullsh*. Looks like I'll occasionally play a round on quickplay or something, because grinding a couple hundred points at a time to get XP points that require 1000+ per %pt just isn't really my bag.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

So as someone that rarely buys a console at first release (except when I was single and then a Wii for the kids) would it be good time to go for the current top PS or XB given I believe XMAS 2013 is slated for new gens? I'm thinking yes price-wise even if they'll eventually be phased out.

I had a Sega, PS I and XB I but haven't played any of the newer versions so don't even know which is the better fit. I already have a Blu-Ray and don't have internet hooked up to the TV but we do have wireless. I have tradtionally liked Madden, FIFA, NHL, NCAA FB and 1st person shooters. Would consider on-line play but wireless would be preferred if it's even an option. Any thoughts on XB vs. PS?

Neither MS or Sony have announced a new console. So it will be 2014 and beyond before we see a new one from either of them.

But now is the time price wise. I don't see either of those two going down any farther, especially as we get to the end of the year.

Xbox offers wireless for an extra $40 adapter. It offers multiplayer online for a fee of $50 a year (can be monthly also). Playstation has wireless built in, and has free multiplayer online.

The games you listed are on both systems. So you could get either.

The current Xbox360 slim model they have been selling for a couple years comes with wireless built in. Also, strong industry wide belief is late 2013 releases for both the new Xbox and PS. Game developers have had early build kits since around the beginning of this year.
