Official Thread of the Leftover League

Re: Official Thread of the Leftover League

So in your mind it's ok that the Alaska teams travel 7 or 8 times a year to the lower 48 but lower 48 teams shouldn't have to be bothered to come up here twice.

Nice. Exact same thinking as the dicks that just bolted from the WCHA.

No wonder people stay in Alaska ... the rest of America appears to be vaginal orifices.

I was responding to the prevailing thoughts in this thread, which was more concerned with UAA and UAF playing games that actually count in their tournament but keeping them in separate conferences. And you don't have to resort to name calling, I'm trying to help.

Re: Official Thread of the Leftover League

I kinda disagree, what we need is to get a waiver that allows the lower 48 schools to spend the week in alaska once per season to play UAA and UAF on back to back weekends. SCSU, MSU-M, MTU, BSU, NMU, and LSSU would get 4 extra games every year and 2 could be at home every year...sounds like a decent deal if UAA and UAF both kick in what they were...1 week in a hotel isn't gonna kill anyone, not in this day and age. MTU could even do it over thanksgiving every once in awhile and not miss any classes...another team could do it in early January and not miss any classes...a 3rd could do it over their spring break if it was timed right...

Oh, completely agree. If some sorta NCAA deal can be reached, by all means. I just meant that would be the easiest way without some sort of NCAA rule-bending, but if they're willing to give the teams the extra four games, awesome, I'm just not holding my breath.

Re: Official Thread of the Leftover League

There are two big questions left: What is Notre Dame going to do (and will the LTHC want an 8th team)? We don't have an answer to that one yet.

The other question is: Are the CCHA and WCHA going to cooperate with each other to try to reach two balanced conferences, or will they go it alone and do what is best for their own conference and the other conference be damned? I hope they work together. They may also want to get the AHA on board. They may now be "the little guys" but if they work together they can make it tougher for the big guys.

My proposal:
The teams that are left from the CCHA are Alaska, Ferris State, Northern, Western, Lake State and Bowling Green. The teams from the WCHA that are left are SCSU, Mankato, BSU, UAA and Tech. The AHA teams that are available are NU, Canisius, Mercyhurst and Robert Morris. UAH should also be in the mix. That's 16 teams. That would be two eight-team leagues, plus the AHA would be down to eight teams. They can then reach a scheduling agreement: the CCHA and WCHA will play an interlocking schedule and agree to play X# of NC games (probably 4 or 8) against AHA schools. That way the Leftovers in the WCHA and CCHA never have to schedule either the BTHC or the LTHC. That also means that those conferences cannot feast on the cupcakes in the LL or the AHA - they will have to turn to Hockey East and the ECAC which have fewer cupcakes and will insist that the BTHC and LTHC play return games. The BTHC wil not be able to play 14 NC home games against cupcakes to boost their overall records and PWR rankings.

The details of the plan are open for debate (split up the Alaska schools?, put two of the three UP schools in different conferences or keep them together?, etc) the important thing is that the CCHA and WCHA work together to solve the problem in a way that works for everyone vs. doing what is best for themselves. We've heard the Denvers and North Dakotas complain about greed when Minnesota and Wisconsin went to the BTHC, then turn around and tear the WCHA to shreds for their own advantage. And for the last week, we've heard fans from Bowling Green to Minnesota to Fairbanks complain about UND, Denver and Miami's shortsightedness and greed. Now is the time to put up or shut up. Can the two conferences work together or was that all just talk and it's every team/conference for itself?

And if you've been reading the thread you'll note that when cost of travel was moaned about we pointed out that UAA and UAF would be subsidizing a big portion of the travel. Then it became we have to go twice? A number of workable alternatives were pointed out that made that moaning moot. Then the big obstacle was missing classes until we all remembered the internet and the technology that moots that whine.

Then duecebag dirty shows up to troll me cos his mommy forgot to by Pecan Sandies and his blood sugar is low again.

These incorrect assumptions and ideas about travel to Alaska and their imagined impacts are in need of constant refutation and/or correction as applicable. And I didn't call you a name. I said you expressed the same thinking as some other people that I called dicks.

You haven't mooted anything, except in your own mind. Not many regular university classes can suddenly be conducted via the internet for ten days or so. Classes are either set up for online delivery or they're not.

And here's a tip: if you're doing to call someone a ****** bag (even if it is Dirty) learn how to spell it.

Actually any University worth the money you pay it can have it's classes conducted online for the most part, especially State universities where connections are subsidized. You want it in a simple way, it's called Blackboard, a textbook, and a coaching who makes sure their players are attending class even when on the road. UAA and UAF have been doing this for almost 15 years with few problems. If professors aren't willing to work with the athletic department on things like this then you have bigger problems.

And here's a tip: if you're doing to call someone a ****** bag (even if it is Dirty) learn how to spell it.
Actually if spelled it correctly it looks, well like what you typed there. So in an effort to make sure nobody misses what is being said, slight alterations are used.

Examples: Deucebag, WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot, and Frak.

Proofreading and knowing how the internet works are both days you missed in 9th grade, huh?

Okay; on other boards, evading the language filters like that brings out the ban hammer. What's the point of language filters if you're allowed "clever" misspellings to get around them?

Re: Official Thread of the Leftover League

Hooray spelling lessons.

Unless tectonic shift puts the Alaska schools in Iowa, we're going to have problems with travel. If the Alaska schools want a home in a D-1 league after this explosion, they'll have to keep offering to partially defray costs. And, if the WCHA and CCHA schools want to remain viable, they need the extra two schools to help make leagues.

Everyone can deal with it. Or more to the point as F2B&G pointed out, the ADs can deal with it.

I prefer "fark" myself.

And speaking of Fark, the uberconference kerfuffle got greenlit on the Sports tab.

Because some of the filtered words are silly to be filtered (the WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot being the prime example, some because the words used to replace have zero meaning to those who don't know (frak), and some because we can (deucebag).

Twitch, you might want to let them know that going to a 24 team tournament is not an option. :p

I think, for the most part, we understand the Alaska schools will have to pay for teams to travel up here and we're ok with that, it's part of wanting to play. What we don't like is the idea of being in seperate conferences again, having to waste our few non-conference games on a rivalry series. In the past it was something that was done because the powers that be didn't like that idea and got their way, well now that the powers that be are gone we'd like to correct this.

Re: Official Thread of the Leftover League

In regards to the alaskan schools... I think this provides a key opportunity to do what doesn't occur often... take 4 games against the Alaskan schools in 5 days.

Would separate conferences but interlocking schedule so those games "count" (and aren't considered NC games) be a good enough compromise, or is that a deal breaker?

take 4 games against the Alaskan schools in 5 days.

That would create a *slight* competitive advantage.

And what do you wanna bet the new powers that be will keep you guys separated AGAIN so all of the leftover schools get the exemptions?
