Official Thread of the Leftover League

Re: Official Thread of the Leftover League

If this quote stands true, then he won't be.

That's from Buisman, right? Do you believe that? I don't think he cares about anything but football and basketball. Have you ever seen him at a hockey game, other than on nights when he's there to do some ceremony between periods? I haven't. I suppose it could just be that I don't see him, but...

Yes, that was buisman.

I think you have a valid point. He's all about basketball, that's about it. But at what point does the Blue Line Club, and the decrease in attendance speak loudly enough for change to be made? After 13 years, you'd think the time has come. Who knows, maybe I'm being too optomistic about our program.

Re: Official Thread of the Leftover League

Yeah, just blow off over a week of classes. Good idea.

We're talking about a tech school here. I'm sure that there are lectures that are available online on an intranet, either by live stream or post-class. I realize not all of the players have the same major, but I don't see how that wouldn't be a viable option. Hotels typically have wireless nowadays, just set up some time (maybe between the morning skate and the game) when the students can watch the lectures. Obviously labs would have to be done at another time, but depending upon the class, that should be easy enough to accomplish.

Re: Official Thread of the Leftover League

There can be two conferences, Alaska and UAA can be split and they can still play conference games. The WCHA teams can start up the old scheduling agreement they used to have with Hockey East. Each team plays "conference" games against teams from the other conference, and the Alaska teams always square off. Then the teams in the Lower 48 can also play rivalry games (or create new ones) that count in the standings.

Re: Official Thread of the Leftover League

Article about all of this in today's Fairbanks Daily News-Miner:

http://newsminer.com/view/full_stor...forces-CCHA-call?instance=home_sports_bullets

From the Article:

Karr, however, is concerned with how the changing landscape of college hockey will affect the Nanooks.

“We’ve known for a long time that the conference landscape was changing,” he said. “Our priorities have not changed. We need to consider what’s best for our student-athletes and we don’t want to see any college hockey programs fold as a result of selfish decision making.”

Good to see the that someone has their head on straight... :)

Maybe.

Less likely - HEA has grown, and they want name-brand opponents too. The ECAC and AHA might be interested though.

That's more likely, having an interlock between the WCHA and CCHA. You'll probably see the same with the BHHC and BTHC.

I meant they can restart the scheduling agreement they had with HEA but with the CCHA. That way the Alaska teams are in different conferences so teams will be spared the headache of traveling to Alaska twice, but the Governor's Cup games will be worth league points.

So in your mind it's ok that the Alaska teams travel 7 or 8 times a year to the lower 48 but lower 48 teams shouldn't have to be bothered to come up here twice.

Nice. Exact same thinking as the dicks that just bolted from the WCHA.

No wonder people stay in Alaska ... the rest of America appears to be vaginal orifices.

You are so right. I guess the lower 48 teams will just play against each other and the alaskan teams can play each other.

Re: Official Thread of the Leftover League

Perhaps UAA and UAF should leave the WCHA and CCHA to form their own league where their conference opponents will have to travel to Alaska twice. I'm sure many of the other teams will jump at the chance to join this conference.

Re: Official Thread of the Leftover League

So that wouldn't work? Are you sure? Well that doesn't seem fair. Poor UAA and UAF. Life is only unfair for them.

But you have oil money. :p

With which UAA and UAF have paid an estimated minimum of $8000.00 of every conference opponent's airfare since their inclusion in the leagues. There is no doubt that UAA and UAF will continue to be exceptionally gracious to any and all conference members in the future. Additionally of course there is the 2 extra games conference opponents get to play in their home rink as additional compensation for the big bad trip. Conference opponents of UAA and UAF get to play 8 non-conference games instead of the 6 they'd otherwise play.

This is one reason why UAA and UAF were forced to different conferences. It's such a valuable thing to them that in years when conference teams aren't scheduled to come here ... they ask if they can come up to our tournament in order to gain the exemptions. Like say um ... North Dakota did last year. That was a nice little $400,000.00+ revenue boost that they wouldn't have otherwise received.

Re: Official Thread of the Leftover League

Maybe UAA and UAF should stop hosting their tournaments as other teams are obviously just taking advantage of them. Poor UAA and UAF.

Re: Official Thread of the Leftover League

Isn't this whole thing about $? Well, the leftover schools won't have $ to go to Alaska that often, SORRY we're not gonna rake in money when Ferris State and Mankato come to town. If you wanna play with us, you're probably gonna get the short end of the stick financially. Otherwise, a league of SCSU, MSU-M, MTU, BSU, BGSU, NMU, WMU, LSSU, UAH and an Atlantic cast-off sounds fine to us. How's that sound to you?

I kinda disagree, what we need is to get a waiver that allows the lower 48 schools to spend the week in alaska once per season to play UAA and UAF on back to back weekends. SCSU, MSU-M, MTU, BSU, NMU, and LSSU would get 4 extra games every year and 2 could be at home every year...sounds like a decent deal if UAA and UAF both kick in what they were...1 week in a hotel isn't gonna kill anyone, not in this day and age. MTU could even do it over thanksgiving every once in awhile and not miss any classes...another team could do it in early January and not miss any classes...a 3rd could do it over their spring break if it was timed right...
