Well done. :)

I decided to go with some cider tonight, a brand called Hardcore. It's NPB.

It's NPB for sure. My favorite is still probably the Woodchuck Granny Smith followed by Hornsby's, although I might buy cider once every couple years.

Starting off with neat? Wow. Even at TK's, I usually wait until close to midnight before I go down that road...

Bachelor party tonight. I will be drinking vast quantities of alcohol tonight. :)

My old boss (female) just texted and invited me to her house tonight after her bachelorette party comes back from the bars. Even if my wife said, "Sure, why not?" I don't think it would be a good idea. :D

You chose wisely.

Lagunitas IPA. Weeeeeee.....

Had one (bottle) last night... of course I keep trying not to drink... things just snare me in  **** good beer... it was funny though... all the other beers they had were the "domestic" slate and your usual Inbev slate of "imported" beers. IPAs I go back on forth on... that was just right.

----

The local Giant supermarket seems to be targeting some of the better regarded niche breweries and beers. Again, I'm trying to avoid beer but I felt I needed to reward them. They had some milk stout from left hand brewery. I haven't had the style before so I'm looking forward to seeing what its like. I wonder if they're putting in the effort because they have somebody interested on their regional purchasing staff or because we're in Arlington. Anyhow... its hard not want to encourage more such activity.

Lefthand Milk Stout is luscious.

And as for not drinking, if you don't love it "too much," moderation is always key.

Woodchuck is delicious. This stuff is perhaps a notch or two below, but definitely worth the try. :)

Heaven in a bottle, my friend.

Pat, glad you liked the Lagunitas IPA. I agree that IPAs run the gamut.

[Edit] I know that Summit changed this a long time ago, but is there a fundamental reason why a brewery uses pop top caps instead of twist?

I was just shocked to find it in a middling Arlington karaoke bar :p If i haven't already had 32oz of Blue Moon and Yeungling ($5 happy hour specials at a chinese restraunt/bar) I would have had a couple of more.

The urban legend/old wives' tale is the darker the bottle, the better quality the beer, and if it's a twist off cap it's obviously a cheap crappy beer.

Now, with micro/craft beers, it's all about budget and what's cheaper while delivering the same quality product.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

I assumed 'stigma' might be part of the reason (every other micro and import has had pop top since I can remember) but I was curious if there was another reason behind the different method. Guess not. :)

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

The only other reason that I've been able to dream up, is that Founders had some problems with infection when I first started drinking their beers, which were twist-offs at the time. Maybe the pop-top is a more secure guard against bacteria? Pure speculation on my part, since I have never brewed beer myself. I always thought infection occurred due to laziness/lack of sanitation during bottling.

Some well-earned Laphroaig tonight. I must say, the 18-year tempted me very much, but I didn't want to get that spendy, so I stuck with the 10. Maybe I'll get the 18 when my promotion goes through in a couple months.

My usual store also has a dusty-looking bottle of the 30-year, but they want $500 for it. Pass. :p
That is a fantastic scotch. I have a bottle of it myself. The 10 year that is.

Ack. As much as I love whisk(e)y, I cannot drink Jack straight. Though the honey stuff is good for shooters, and good with ginger ale.

I don't mind Jack at all, just don't want to pay the premium price for it. About the only time I'll buy it is at a bar, for a now-mostly-retired tradition of finishing my night at the bar with a shot o'Jack and a Bud.

And Jack Honey is a fine sipper. That, I will pay for.

We were waiting for the party bus to show up, and all we had was warm-hot Mich Golden, or Jack. And it was time to start drinking, so I sucked it up. We had the bus stop at the liquor store right away, so we solved that problem quickly. I actually bought a bottle of Tennessee Honey, **** that stuff is good.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

I'm actually intrigued by the talk about these Honey Whiskeys.... I might have to pick up a bottle of JD Tennessee Honey or Wild Turkey American Honey for my trip out to the Knoxville Nationals next week... Seems like both would be good sipping type of drinks for chilling around the campfire... Assuming that the Wild Turkey would probably be a bit better served on the rocks between the two? Probably looking at warm temps, so a "cool" drink would be preferred...

It depends on your preference. Wild Turkey is more of a liqueur than the JD is, so it is sweeter, and almost syrupy at times. It is very good on the rocks as just a sipping drink and it goes down very smooth. JD is more the consistency of whisky, instead of being thicker like the Turkey. JD has more of a whisky flavor with less honey, but there is enough honey to kill off all of the bite that JD normally has. JD is still pretty sweet, especially compared to regular whisky, but it isn't as sweet at the Turkey. I drink both on the rocks, and I know several others that do too, I prefer the Jack over the Turkey. It really comes down to if you want more of the whisky flavor or if you want it to be more like a liqueur.
