I don't get the hate for shandy. I wouldn't drink it all the time, but when its hot out, a couple bottles of that hits the spot.

But it's okay to put flower stuff in beer?

Wait...before you answer, remember that vanilla comes from orchids, and remember that certain awesome beer at the GPL tailgate?

Hops are also a flower, so yes that's acceptable in some circumstances.

I was specifically pointing to vanilla, which could be considered a "masking" agent like fruit.

For me, if it's too fruity, blech. But hints of it are okay. Add to the flavor, don't overtake it (in general).

Some well-earned Laphroaig tonight. I must say, the 18-year tempted me very much, but I didn't want to get that spendy, so I stuck with the 10. Maybe I'll get the 18 when my promotion goes through in a couple months.

My usual store also has a dusty-looking bottle of the 30-year, but they want $500 for it. Pass. :p

That's what it's like when I make a bourbon sauce for steak. If a "splash" is good, half the fifth must be better, right? Right?

So, as a thank you for helping my brother and his family move today, I got a bottle of Redbreast 12 a bottle of Gekkeikan sake.

Obviously the R12 is awesome. They knew I kinda liked sake, but I have no clue what kind I had when I had it (it was a couple years ago). Anyone heard anything about this brand?

Edited: just opened the gift bag with the whiskey. My brother told me the wrong brand. :rolleyes: Not that I'm complaning. ;)

Today I started thinking about how I am drinking WAY too much crappy cheap water beer, and a buddy of mine invited me along on his 30th birthday party. Gasthof zur Gemütlichkeit & Mario's Keller Bar here I come!

I decided to go with some cider tonight, a brand called Hardcore. It's NPB.
