Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

It depends on your preference. Wild Turkey is more of a liqueur than the JD is, so it is sweeter, and almost syrupy at times. It is very good on the rocks as just a sipping drink and it goes down very smooth. JD is more the consistency of whisky, instead of being thicker like the Turkey. JD has more of a whisky flavor with less honey, but there is enough honey to kill off all of the bite that JD normally has. JD is still pretty sweet, especially compared to regular whisky, but it isn't as sweet at the Turkey. I drink both on the rocks, and I know several others that do too, I prefer the Jack over the Turkey. It really comes down to if you want more of the whisky flavor or if you want it to be more like a liqueur.

And I swear that because of the combination of flavors, the Jack Honey has a slight cinnamony finish/aftertaste. It threw me for a loop the first time I tried it.

JD Tennessee Honey

This stuff is good. Dangerously good.

We told ya. Armadillo on GPL (I'm pretty sure that's his name on here, too) told me he could never buy a bottle for home because it'd be gone before the night was over.

Might have a beer tonight, but I know I'll have 1 or 2 or a dozen tomorrow. My liver is already doing reps in the weight room in preparation. Horrible week this week.

Running some errands today, I came across a liquor store I hadn't been to before. For the locals, it's US Liquor off of Hwy 7 near the Lund's/LA Fitness. HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE beer selection, foreign and craft.

Opted for Sprecher Piper's Scotch Ale and Sprecher Abbey Triple. Each comes in a 4 pack of 16oz bottles, $9/pk. Hadn't seen these Sprechers around here, and haven't had these kinds of Sprecher. Unfortunately, most of the beer the store has is on shelves, and not coolers, but I will take a better selection over having it already cold any day of the week. Anxious to try these.

Meanwhile, I'm starting off Sipper Saturday with Alaskan White, while waiting for the Sprechers to get cold. :)

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

Ok, have had one of each of the Sprechers. Phe. Nom. En. Al.

Have to watch it, though. Each of the beers does pack a punch.

Managed to avoid pounding too much of the TN Honey yesterday, but Old Rip Van Winkle 10Y/107 Proof is threatening to put me down for the count tonight. This is the first time I've tried it, and it's excellent as well, in it's own way,

RVW is good? I was always afraid of buying it...

Me too, but I should note that I've been keeping an eye out for it for a couple of years. So far, I like it better than Old Forrester Birthday 2010 and Elijah Craig 18 Year for the same price.

I think I asked this recently, but anyone know when George T Stagg is coming out?

I keep looking for it, admittedly never have asked about it, and nada. Of course, you can google it. ;)

Am thinking about actually stocking my "bar" due to a family investment coming through and now having some extra money. Of course, there will be many kinds of whiskey, and I think I'll spring for some good dark rum (any suggestions besides Appleton Estates?). Not buying the elite stuff overall (eg: Johnny Blue), but higher quality stuff (your Ketels, Basil Hayden) and the better than average stuff (EC12, Jack Honey). Right now the "eff it, I'm spending it" budget is around two bills. Might make it three, dunno.

EC18. Period

That has been noted, as has some others. Those are "special" bottles, which will be hidden away for special nights. Not your usual "we're home from the bar, wooooooo, let's have an EC18 for a cooldown drink!"

Absolutely not. Mine is in my private liquor cabinet. I'd also recommend the following:
Dalmore 12
Springbank 10 or 15
Crown Royal Cask No. 16 (particularly pricey but it's amazing, at least I think so) - Definitely not for everyone due to price and the fact that it's a canadian whiskey
Booker's Bourbon

And I'm looking at the good but not special stocking of said "bar." I know my whiskeys and vodkas. Looking for suggestions on rum. And for Canadian, Pendleton is dam good.

Looking for suggestions on rum.

I'm not a huge rum drinker, but once in awhile it's alright. There are a couple I've gambled on and enjoyed. Mt. Gay Extra Old, if you're willing to spend ~$35 a bottle, is very high quality, barrel-aged stuff - shares some qualities with good bourbon, yet is definitely a rum, and not one you dump Coke into. For a mixable dark/black rum, The Kraken makes a damn good Dark n' Stormy for $20 (I think I pimped that here many months ago).

I don't think these guys update anymore, but their list of reviews is pretty comprehensive and worth a look...http://rumreviews.com/

Ended up getting the Appleton Estate 12YO. Had a couple fingers on the rocks last Fri before we went out. Yeah, that ain't being mixed with anything.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

Picked up a 12er mixed pack of Woodchuck Cider tonight. 3 each of the Amber, Granny Smith, 802, and then 3 of the "Cider Makers' Choice", which in this case for whatever reason was their "Spring" variety.
Holy. *. Awesome. It has just a hint of a brown sugar and maple flavor to it, and it's freaking amazing.
