Picked up a 12er mixed pack of Woodchuck Cider tonight. 3 each of the Amber, Granny Smith, 802, and then 3 of the "Cider Makers' Choice", which in this case for whatever reason was their "Spring" variety.
Holy. *. Awesome. It has just a hint of a brown sugar and maple flavor to it, and it's freaking amazing.

Even though 90 degree days are probably over, I might have to look for that.

Friday, I plan on stopping by that liquor store with the massive beer selection, so I have something to drink on Sat before I hit TK's. Where I'll drink more. That kinda week. I'm already on OT.

I'm not a huge rum drinker, but once in awhile it's alright. There are a couple I've gambled on and enjoyed. Mt. Gay Extra Old, if you're willing to spend ~$35 a bottle, is very high quality, barrel-aged stuff - shares some qualities with good bourbon, yet is definitely a rum, and not one you dump Coke into. For a mixable dark/black rum, The Kraken makes a damn good Dark n' Stormy for $20 (I think I pimped that here many months ago).

I don't think these guys update anymore, but their list of reviews is pretty comprehensive and worth a look...http://rumreviews.com/

mmmmm kraken.

Ended up getting the Appleton Estate 12YO. Had a couple fingers on the rocks last Fri before we went out. Yeah, that ain't being mixed with anything.

How much did that set you back?

You shoulda asked me a couple weeks ago when I bought it. :p

I budgeted about $200, and got:

Appleton 12YO
Stoli
Jameson
Crown
Basil Hayden
Glenlivet 12
Evan single barrel
Jack Honey

And then I also bought Brooklyn Brewery's Local 1 and Local 2, plus a sixer of Deschutes, and it came to $240 with tax. Some things were on sale, like the Glenlivet 12, which affected my buying, too.

Bell's Octoberfest and Summit Unchained Saison. Yummy.

Brent bringing up rum made me want to try another ultra-premo one, so I bought a 375 of Pyrat XO. After I got home, I read the little card and it was only then that found out that it's a Patron product, which annoyed me a little. However the rum is quite good, and in a unique way. It actually smells a lot like the honeyed whiskeys we've been discussing in this thread, but it does not taste anywhere near as sweet and finishes with a nice kick.

I've recently seen the Pyrat beer around, very expensive (maybe $13-16 for a 4-pack). It's strong, but I want to know if it's good. I'm not dropping that coinage on a chance.

And while I picked up some beer to have this weekend, I did also pick up a bottle of Boulevard's Smokestack Series Saison-Brett. Looks like your standard bomber of "wait a few months or a year to drink" beer. Figure I'll crack it on NYE or maybe the Super Bowl. It was bottled in early- to mid-June or so, given the bottling code.

Also bought another bottle of Glenlivet 12, only because it was on sale for $25. Can't go wrong with that. It's not my favorite scotch, but it is decent quality.

Cracked open my Surly Smoke. Been saving that for the right time. Felt it was a good time.

Ooooooo that's a good beer.

I can honestly say I'm not on the Surly bandwagon. Granted, they do make a quality beer, but it's not for me at all. Bender is the only one I sorta kinda like. Way too *ing hoppy. I support them in every other way, because of what they are and where they came from, but honestly? It will be a very rare occasion (OC mini-tour or something) where I'll buy their beer.

I'm of the same mind. I think their beers are some of the most overrated beers available. They're above average to be sure. But this mythical status they have is a bit undeserved.

That said, Smoke is still fantastic. Unsure if it was worth the price I paid.

I've run into the "was it worth the price" and I say 100% yes. The beer itself may not have been worth the price (some of the special releases out there), but it was worth the money to take the chance. Good beers, AND you found out whether or not to "re-invest" in that particular beer again. Odell's Woodcut series is a prime example. Loved the beer. Worth the price? Not really. I can find comparable beers for less.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

I found this on the red star and sickle website and thought it was quote worthy:

Summit or Grain Belt?
Summit says, "I designed my deck." Grain Belt says, "I built my deck."

Selecting Summit says, 'On Facebook, I post pictures from my great vacations,' whereas selecting Grain Belt says, 'On Facebook, I post pictures that might get me into trouble with an employer one day."

I like the Bell's Octoberfest, but there are better fall offerings including the Sierra Nevada Tumbler.

They brought back the Paulaner Weisn at Old Chicago, starting Wed for the Oktoberfest mini-tour. Top 5 beer. Maybe my top beer. Good mix of everything that makes a "normal" beer. How I love it so. Apologies to Guinness, but....man.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

Two mediocre bottles so far, however they were the brews I had the least expectations for. Motor City Brewing Works Ghettoblaster and Palm "Belgian Amber" (my arse).

Expecting better from my remaining four bottles, and two bombers.

Also, Laphroaig Quarter Cask is great scotch.

Two bachelor parties this weekend. My liver is going to write its congressman.
