*shudder* Karkov.

I, like bbdl, developed expensive tastes. But only in vodka. Absolut (until I realized it was so overrated), then Stoli.

If we're talking Vodka, I stick to 2 brands. Kettel One, and Reyka. Nothing else compares, except for Stoli, Stoli is a close third.

Ketel is the best. I'd say Reyka is a close 3rd for me, Stoli 2nd.

Reyka has a cork, and I only allow corked bottles on my bartop. So Reyka it is... I don't even know if there is another vodka for me to put up there that has a cork.

I wouldn't know, actually. I would have to imagine there is one or two somewhere...

And I know your rules for the icebox. But I'd make exceptions for taste. ;)

Tito's. Just as good (or better), and usually far cheaper.

Tastes like college- Senator's Club Vodka, from the big plastic jug. *shudder*

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

The $30+/bottle microdistillers will often use cork (real or fake). Don't know if you have any little distilleries in MN, might be worth investigating if you're that motivated. Then again, I prefer to save that kind of money for whiskey, so...

Second the Tito's recommendation. It's a bit hotter and a bit sweeter than Ketel One, but once you put a cube in, I can't tell the difference. Plus, it's distilled in Texas from corn, so 'MURICA. ;)

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

My "tastes like college" drink of choice started at Beam & Coke and morphed into VO7, 7&7 and by the end straight bourbons and scotch. Beer started with whatever was cheapest and moved toward as much as I could afford of micros and crafts.

Made blackened mahi tacos for dinner.

The perfect complement?

A few margaritas on the rocks with El Jimador blanco tequila.

Yum!

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Was up in Milwaukee Thursday night for a Ski/Board film... Decided to stop by the Horny Goat brewery for some pregame beverages... Disappointing is an accurate description...

Stacked Milk Stout - Not sure what to make of this... It was very sweet... Just seemed like a dark beer that they were trying to make into something that you could drink in quantity... They tried to lighten it up and this hurt the offering...

Exposed Cream Ale - This was another offering where it seemed like they went out and tried to make it as light as possible... It was smooth, but the flavor was very toned down...

Brownie Porter - This was just a disaster... This was the first beer I ordered on the night... Our server looked at me and said "You're gonna want a sample of this first..." and she proceeded to give me a sample glass of it... Very glad that I didn't waste the money on a full glass... Chocolate was the main flavor, but not in a good way... Very strong aftertaste... Seems like it would overpower anything that you ate while drinking this... I guess this years batch bombed... The server was saying that last year's brew was much better and many people were disappointed...

That's never a good sign.

I have to go to Founders' Brewing in Grand Rapids. I'm such a fan of their Dirty B-stard, Killer Breakfast Stout, and Centennial IPA that I want to see what else they have.

Until then, I'm lucky that Meijer is having a sale on both Founders and Bell's beer this week. Time to stock up...

Killer Breakfast Stout? There's the Breakfast Stout (seasonal), and Kentucky Breakfast Stout (limited release).
