I really like the 2013 Schell's Snowstorm. Very tasty. This 6er probably won't last too long. :p

I saw a sixer last week, but decided to wait, and got the Bell's Best Brown instead. Good to hear the Snowstorm is quality. It sounded like it was going to be.

I grabbed a 12 of the Snowstorm. Commitment.

Also picked up a Samuel Smiths 3-pak Holiday sampler with coasters and pint glass.

Canadian Club Sherry Cask

My late uncle liked this quite a bit, especially with a cigar. I like it better than Crown as a sipper, and think it's a better kept secret among the sweeter whiskeys (of which I consume a select few these days). Definitely don't think the strong Sherry flavor would go well with Coke. That's just as well, since I never mix at home, and rarely order a mixer at a bar anymore. Bonus - it's also several bucks cheaper than Crown.

Had our old neighbors over for the Bucky hoops game against St. John's (good win!). Feelin pretty good. All over the map tonight...

Glass of 14 Hands merlot - like 14 Hands quite a bit... Cabernet is nice also
Margarita on the rocks with Casa Pacific tequila
Pendelton & Coke
Tortuga (rum) & Coke - Grand Cayman rum
Yahara Bay (rum) & Orange/Pineapple - actually distilled here in Madison
Cruzan (rum) & Coke

Finished off the night sipping Glen Elgin 22yo and beating the wives 2 games to 0 in euchre. Put a serious dent in the Glen Elgin. ;)

As Snoop said... "Yeah, I'm ****ed up now." :)

Crushing water now and eating Pasqual's (local Mexi) chips, salsa and queso dip to avoid the hangover and feel good tomorrow.

Currently drinking some Schneider Weisse Tap 7 Original (a hefe-weizen). Quite good. Great color. Good citrus and spice notes. Not quite as good as the Aventinus also from Schneider Weiss (a wiezenbock, one of my favorite beers and a great beer for this time of year) but still good. Also had some new ones recently (for me) from Three Floyds in Indiana. Munsterfest (an Octoberfest) and Razer Hoof (a Saison). Both are great. Just bought a bottle of the Munsterfest as well. Also bought some other German Weiss beers and dunkels (random individual bottles) that I will be working on over the next day or two as well.

With winter weather approaching I'm going to have to work on my bottle of Dalmore and then look into another scotch soon.

I was pleasantly surprised to find Breckenridge Bourbon at my favorite liquor store. A dollar or two cheaper than it would've cost to order direct from the distillery and ship to Michigan. :)

It's a nice, sweet bourbon, with an emphasis on the cinnamon/caramel flavor, and also super smooth. Greatly enjoyed it at Blue River Bistro in Breckenridge last February.

Not a fan of Surly in general, but Surly Darkness? All the yes.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Had some good beers this weekend. A maple amber from South Shore Brewery in Ashland, WI, which was pretty good, and I got a growler of it. Had a red from Brickside Brewery in Copper Harbor, MI, that was excellent, got a growler of that too, then also had a pint of a smoked porter from Brickside, which was good, but not as good as their red. Lastly, I had 2 new ones from KBC, the Kuntapaa Red, which was a belgian tasting red, and was excellent (yes, got a growler), and the Stump Grinder Oatmeal Stout Nitro, which was not as good as I expected it to be.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Some good rebates out there, so I purchased some overstock and a new item.

Got: $5 off a liter of Kahlua, $10 off a 1.75 of Cruzan light and $5 off a liter of 1800 Silver.

$20 off a $65 dollar (total) purchase. Not bad. Not bad at all.

Seems like hard liquor is rarely ever on sale, so I take advantage of rebates when I can.

Tried the Lagunitas Brown Shugga this weekend. Not what I was expecting, so in that aspect it gets a "meh." But, for what it is, it's decent, although a one-and-done for me due to the hoppier taste to it. That, and it's about 10%.

You just talked me into it

Hops are the best. Anyone who can't handle hops in their beer is a pu55y. :D ;)

Disclosure: The dark, malty beers are good too...shhhhh :p

That's why I like IPAs. Lots of hops!

Drank this weekend in Ann Arbor. Had the Dragonmead Final Absolution IPA at Tio's Mexican Cafe, and had the Sacred Cow IPA at Arbor Brewing Company. Arbor has a great dinner menu as well.

If anyone in Minneapolis/St. Paul sees Deschutes "The Abyss" please let me know, been looking for it but I'm not sure its going to make it this far this year.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

I'm enjoying a bomber of Goose Island Big John. It is a double stout, and looks like drain oil. But it is pretty darn tasty.

Also, bought a 6er of Shiner Cheer, which I'm a huge fan of this time of year.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

My brother-in-law the long-time bartender (for your Twin Cities folks he's at Bryant Lake Bowl) told me about using way more bitters. Use bitters like pepper and salt, he said. So tonight's pre-dinner martini (with good old-fashioned Beefeater Gin) had a big dash of orange bitters thrown in there. Pretty interesting. It's a little disconcerting to think you could add a bunch of bitters to experiment and waste a good glass of alcohol, but maybe that's what you have to do. I mean, even if you don't like a new double chocolate stout, you're gonna finish it, right?
