Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

I'm enjoying a bomber of Goose Island Big John. It is a double stout, and looks like drain oil. But it is pretty darn tasty.

Also, bought a 6er of Shiner Cheer, which I'm a huge fan of this time of year.

The Big John/Pepe Nero/whatever the 3rd one is called in that series are all pretty good beers.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Started the game with a couple Pendleton (new fav whiskey) & Cokes.

Now doing Yahara Bay Light Rum and Mango Juice.

This is a locally (Madison) distilled premium rum that I've been meaning to try and finally bought a bottle of a month ago.

Probably the driest rum I've ever had and I have to admit that I didn't love it at first, but it's definitely growing on me. Works well with the sweet tropical juice.

There are a number of local craft distilleries here in town that I need to check out.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Saw a bottle of Utopias in the local liquor store. I am sorely tempted.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Intro'd the lady to Jack Honey. She loved it. After having some Premo for the MN-WI football game (tradition, dammit!), it's time to have a proper beer for Sipper Saturday and switch over to Founder's Dirty Bastard.

Tried the New Holland Four Witches at OC on tap. It is a black saison I guess. Very interesting taste but I do like it.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Buffalo Sweat Vanilla Bean Stout and New Belgium Frambozen (raspberry brown ale) have hit the shelves. Both are tremendously delicious.

Also, had my traditional holiday "coffee with a kick" (add a lil' bourbon) with breakfast. Again, tremendously delicious.

Wild Turkey Rare Breed

It's good, I swear. Isn't anywhere near as "lively" :D as it's cheaper baseline counterpart despite being a bit higher proof. But I am admittedly a Turkey fan out of nostalgia, so I guess you can take my advice on their premium products with a grain of salt. :)

Sam Adams Cherry Chocolate Bock. Holy balls is it good.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

I was in charge of beer and drinks for Thanksgiving.

For Beer:
Widmer Brrr
New Belgium Frambozen
Deschutes Jubelale
New Belgium 1554
Fulton Sweet Child of Vine

Other (after-dinner drinks, etc):
Rum Chata
Kringle Cream

The beer was a hit with me, my girl, my sister and her fiance, but everyone else avoided it. I think a few of them were annoyed that there was no Busch Light/Coors Light/Keystone/Icehouse/Goat ****, so **** them.

I had to get Rum Chata because my aunt loves it, and it really is pretty tasty stuff. The Kringle Cream was pretty good too, for that kind of drink.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Bought a bottle of Orkney Brewing 2012 Dark Island Reserve. "The Extraordinary Orcadian Ale Aged in Whisky Casks" Straight from Scotland. It is going to be a birthday gift to myself. This stuff makes the Pentagram look cheap, BTW.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

How much did that run?!

Thanks to a favor my local store did for me, I got 2 12oz bottles of the Goose Island Bourbon County Coffee Stout, and a bomber of Deschutes Abyss (the latter, they set aside for me, on a hunch I might want it; I did). The main guy hid the bottles so they wouldn't get sold, and I could pick them up after work. :)

And a bonus: I'm trading one of the BCCS for a bottle of the regular Bourbon County Stout that one of my friends has.

For those that don't know, a 12oz bottle of the BCS or BCCS goes for about $6 retail. Yeah, that hard to get around here.

$42 for the Dark Island Reserve

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Cracked the bottle of the BC Coffee Stout. Wow. At first sip from the fridge, the coffee taste is a bit overpowering, taking away the bourbon flavor. However, it's darn near room temp now, just slightly chilled, and the balance of the flavors is PERFECT. Well done, Goose Island, well done.

Edit: at just over 13%, it does have some kick, too.

New Belgium Accumulation

Solid, but the hops haters should stay clear.

Hops hater here, and I've had much, much "worse." Definitely a one-and-done for me, though, and wouldn't go out of my way to have it again.
