went to a texas bbq place in DC... they had multiple shiner beers on tap... shiner blond is great.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Observation: I always find I need to add a citrus and Worcestershire sauce to any Bloody Mary mix I've ever purchased. I need a recommendation for a can't miss mixer!
You can never really go wrong with whiskey. You'll probably want to replace the Bloody Mary with coffee first, though

Anyone watching Brew Dogs on Esquire? Pretty cool show about craft beer. Right up the alley of most people here!

I don't even know what channel that is, because if it's anything like the mag, I'd probably want to punch my tv for being too doosh-ish, broheim.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

It replaced Style not too long ago and has two original shows that I've noticed, Brew Dogs and Knife Fight (cooking show). The rest of the time it's showing reruns of parks and Rec, Party Down, Psych, and Burn Notice.

What kind of white wine? I'm a huge fan of Chardonnay and Riesling.

Chardonnay has a good, sour, oaky taste - it's the only 'acceptable' white wine for men. ;)

Now, if Gurt had said he was drinking White Zinfandel (or any other pink wine), I'd have told him to hand over his Man Card. :D

My aunt encourages my wine habit. We go out to lunch and we share a bottle of wine. And she's generous too... she'll order two bottles if need be.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Last night, I was drinking a California White which went well with our Pesto dinner.

After polishing my bottle off, I got into my wife's bottle of Prairie Fume from Wollersheim Winery. This is a winery that is north of Madison along the Wisconsin River and well worth a visit if you are in Madison and looking to do a tasting.

Evidently, the Wisconsin River valley is a perfect micro-climate for grapes.

I'm no wine expert, but I do like to consume it from time to time and I enjoy the warm buzz that it provides.

Went to a tasting on Saturday and came home with a German White Grenache and an Italian unfiltered Merlot. Both were quite tasty and I look forward to them.

As far as what I like...

In whites, I don't like them too sweet (which puts me at odds with the wife) or too dry. Riesling is probably my favorite.

In reds, I like Merlot and Cabernets.

(sorry, closest I found)

I actually enjoy a glass of wine from time to time. I always laugh at the ladies around campus who always drink wine and claim their favorite is Moscato.

I took a flyer on some of that on sale once and it was awful. Even the wife thought it was too sweet.

We used it up as a cooking wine. Yuck!

Actually, at the tasting, I was also looking at an 18 year old single malt, small batch that was going for $225 for 750ml.

You could buy 200ml for around $60, which I may go back and do. Have some gift cards for this place, so it's a once in a blue moon indulgence.

I'm intrigued.

Which single malt? Would say a lot. ;)

I wanna say it was Glen Garioch, but I looked at a few and I need to go back to the store to be sure. I know where it is and what it looks like.

Again, this would be a purchase that I'd never make without the gift card. Just couldn't justify it otherwise.

Sell the gift cards for cash and buy yourself some good whiskey.;)

I added Brew Dogs to the DVR sometime last week. Watched one episode, and thought it was OK. I wish they had a cheat sheet with a list of all of the beers they're talking about so I know what to go buy.

I have a good collection of Whiskey, but I've never had anything that ultra premium.

It's free other than the opportunity cost of what else I could get there, so I'm mulling it over.
