Re: Obama XXIII: The Muslin Anti-Christ Wages War on the forces of Christianity!

This is what's done today and it sucks. By taking acts that a Sharpton takes as racist...which often is jumping to conclusions...many on the right say that blacks are racist and that makes their own racism worse.

Its the same ole story of extremists trying to overblow stories to make it appear the other side is wrong, evil or something else bad...and then they feel they have the right to be behave badly also. Same garbage that was going on with overseas muslim extremism and domestic conservatism. If there is solid evidence the police were racist...fix it. Otherwise, enough of black panthers and gobs of conservatives blabbing about racism already.

The funny thing is, I give everyone the same amount of respect when just looking at them, and then decide the best course of action based upon who they are from a character standpoint. If it just so happened that I hired more of one race than another simply based upon qualifications, I would be considered a racist. Even if I were to replace all names with numbers and discuss matters over an internet chat setting.

Old friend, I have no idea what "many" conservatives are thinking, I'll leave that up to you. My own view is the vast majority of black folks in this country have far too much common sense to believe in the racist swill from "the reverands." And when you equate "Muslim extremism" with "domestic conservatism" you give away the game, don't you? And what has Sharpton done to deserve the benefit of the doubt in your mind? He does far more than "jump to conclusions." He lies and he manipulates the poor, ignorant people who "follow" him for his own agrandizement. His goal, he says, is to be the "baddest n-word in New York City." He has largely succeeded, at the cost of several lives and great damage to the nation.

i thought (wrongly ;) ) that i was expressing the fact that nobody thinks THEY are practicing racism.. only the other guy. it is also a very effective hammer to drop on somebody when they are arguing with you and you need an easy escape. :D

Re: Obama XXIII: The Muslin Anti-Christ Wages War on the forces of Christianity!

I thought it was Kris Kristofferson?

At the time, IIRC, the consensus was that it was Mick. Although Kristofferson was a big enough a*shole to qualify. I think it's Mick.

You're surely right. Accusations of racism are designed to stop arguments and change the subject. I've posted before they're the modern equivalent of accusing someone of being "red."

Considering that Mick does the backup vocals on the tune, I highly doubt that it's him.

According to Wikipedia, which has a lengthy entry of speculation, Warren Beatty thought the song was about him...however...

In her 2008 book, Girls like us : Carole King, Joni Mitchell, and Carly Simon - and the Journey of a Generation, author Sheila Weller covered the lives and careers of the three famous singers. Weller's detailed account of Simon's love affair with guitarist and luthier, Dan Armstrong, provides overwhelming evidence that he was in fact the inspiration for her classic hit, You're So Vain.
There's a lot more supporting evidence in the rest of the entry.

I'm now wondering whether to call this Jimmy Carter's second term or FDR's Fifth Term...

I wouldn't ask Obummer's advice on chicks if my life depended on it.:p
This is the only thing we're in agreement about. Obama makes Romney look like a playa.

Can't remember where the unions were discussed, but the Local just did a contract with our grocery stores. http://www.gazette.net/article/2012...orkers-contract-with-safeway&template=gazette

“Pleased as we are with the agreement our members enthusiastically ratified today, we view it as a foundation for further improvements in the next round of bargaining,” Local 400 president Tom McNutt said in a statement Tuesday.

“We’re going to sustain and build our member activism over the next 19 months, we’re going to organize tenaciously and work to unite grocery workers throughout our region, and we’re going to enter negotiations stronger than ever,” he said.

Local 400 represents 17,000 workers in the Washington, D.C., area, including those who work at the region’s 126 Giant Food and Safeway supermarkets.

The new contract includes across-the-board wage increases effective Sunday that exceed increases in the cost-of-living for most union members; full funding of health insurance benefits with no increase in workers’ out-of-pocket costs and improved coverage in areas such as vaccinations and root canals; and maintenance of all current pension benefits, with new steps to resolve funding issues for at least the next 10 years, according to the union.

Sticking points during the negotiations concerned the grocers’ push to create a new wage tier for new hires, a proposed increase in health insurance co-payments, a proposed end to health care maintenance of benefits, and treatment of Sunday as part of the regular workweek, according to the union statement.

“Our members’ activism and solidarity is why they won one of the best collective bargaining agreements in the supermarket industry,” McNutt said. “Whenever management tried to push us into making more sacrifices, our members made clear on the floor of the store and everywhere else they were willing to do whatever it takes to get a fair deal.”
