Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

Its good that you feel that way...because I never said that Jesus advocated socialism. I said he advocated sharing work and wealth.

There are many quotes from Jesus and elsewhere in the bible saying that folks should aim for wealth equality. Socalism is just a framework to manage that outcome. I would posit nowhere says that the rich should be forced to give up their wealth. But if socialism is accepted by society and would be successful in delivering a quality standard for living (neither of which it is)...then socialism could be fine.

But by and large, Jesus' perspective as shown by many quotes would align quite effectively with socialism in a scenario where it was fully accepted by society.
Jesus was pretty much against wealth, period. The part right before the quote Foxton posted was a rich guy asking how to get into the Kingdom of God. Jesus told him literally to sell all his belongings and give the money to the poor. The guy went away disappointed, and that's when Jesus turned to his followers and said that it's almost impossible for rich people to get into heaven.

You can choose to buy gas from a different company. And if there's no company selling it for a lower price, then people are free to start another company to do so.

If you don't like the price of the government's retirement insurance, you're not free to buy from another supplier.

So if you don't like what OPEC is charging for gas, you can get it elsewhere from a cheaper supplier? Okaaayyyy....hmmm...maybe you can let us know where we can go to get cheaper gas than how that cartel and its allies are dictating the world market.

However, while I'm not one to give you righties compliments, I think you're onto something. I want to see a protest rally on the Washington Mall tomorrow against those slave laborers in China who are now apparently demanding higher wages in order to make the shoes we all wear so they're clearly restricting our freedoms (I know, I know, we could all just walk around barefoot, but a lot of you have smelly feet so lets just protest instead ;) ).

Why can't you separate taxes on an individual's labor from market prices?

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

No one's complaining about the trash, they're laughing at the hypocrisy of the lefty groups who care oh so much about the environment, yet can't bother to clean up after themselves.

Don't compare the left to the far left idiots, unless you in turn want the right to be associated with the far right.

So, screw the environment?

I don't fear being associated with the far right, because no matter what I do, morons like Rover make the association anyway.

I don't think the gap between them - on this issue specifically- is that great though.

That has nothing to do with Bakunin's premise. His was that increased taxes = decreased take home pay = loss of freedom. If that's true, anything that decreases your take home pay = loss of freedom. Its one or the other, not a convenient "its only illegal if da gumbint does it" tired refrain we keep hearing from the right.

While you can in extreme circumstances not use electricity or petroleum to preserve your freedoms, you could also choose not to have a job (think Red Cloud, Patman or MinnFan) and avoid taxes/loss of freedoms that way too, right?

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

All you visitors leave a mess, regardless of political affiliation.

Just so long as you stay on the Mall and leave the rest of the city alone, I'm fine with that.

Maggie's drawers.

What are you talking about? As a general rule, the left is unable to use the word "right" without preceding it with "far," "hard," "ultra," or "extreme." This is a game also engaged in by the MSM. When was the last time any of the network anchors (say in describing the little John Reed gathering on the mall Saturday) EVER used the words "far," "hard," "ultra" or "extreme" to describe ANY activity or position on the left? Never would be the most accurate guess.

CBS "reporter" Daniel Schorr suggested on national TV that Barry Goldwater might be planning to link up with extreme right wingers in Germany. I'll wait while you find a similar MSM outrage directed at a liberal.

In other words, pal, they're already doing it--every day on every subject. Reread some of John Lewis' speeches on the floor of the house or think back to Teddy's speech on the floor of the Senate smearing Bob Bork. If you're a masochist, just spend about 10 minutes watching MSNBC.

Even wire services play this game. Reuters refuses to use the word "terrorist." What are they, community organizers? And just this weekend with attacks in Pakistan, AP referred to "militants." "Militants?" As we used to say in the AF, "are you chittin me Herm?"

There is an obvious, blatant, far reaching, long standing, impossible to deny double standard here. The MSM is fully invested in the notion that the ends justify the means. Hence, Dan Rather's preposterous claims that it didn't matter if the documents he was using to smear Bush were forgeries. Right.

Those chains must be awfully heavy to carry. It's a wonder you can get out of bed in the morning with so much of the world trying to beat you down.

If anybody needs evidence that the vast majority of conservatives are bitter old geezers who could give a hoot about Teabagger principles but just want to "get even" with life: read some of Old Pio's posts down below. :D

Barry Goldwater? Geesh man - the dude ran for President 46 years ago. What's next, how the MSM mistreated Wendell Wilkie?

Being dismissive is so easy and fun, isn't it?

Like that isn't already happening.

Fact remains, for every gun-totin' racist redneck on the right there's the pot-smokin' hipster doofus on the left. For every neo-nazi there's the true communist. For every Rush Limbaugh there's a Jesse Jackson.

People only see the slights they want to see (ie, those against their position/interest). Study after study proves it.

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

I'm not questioning your opinions, I'm questioning your handle on the facts.

I have to deal with the large crowds here on a regular basis, whether for conservative rallies or liberal rallies or the Fourth of July or the Smithsonian's Folk Life festival or the National Book Festival. They all produce tons of trash.

I hope you enjoy today's poutrage.

the national book fair caused more problems on the mall the day after than 1) the beck rally, 2) the 9/12 rally, 3) the happy fun communist singalong from the weekend.

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

All of these rallies have been dismal failures and collective masturbation. In all history, there have been three rallies on the Mall that mattered: two protesting slow army pay and one protesting segregation. The rest have been a million commuters laughing at a handful of hobos buying overpriced corn dogs of questionable provenance.
