Sing the words, or have we forgotten the song?
...or worse depending on your POV. Socialism has noble ideas of sharing work and wealth. Kinda like this guy Jesus advocated...not that many here on the right really care much about him. But socialism just doesn't work in reality.
Yet based on posts, many here seem to see the potential of socialism to be a far greater blight on this country than the KKK. But to each their own...

Turnout for the lefty "b***h fest" turned out to be rather modest, despite the union-provided free bus rides and box lunches (yummy). But even with modest numbers, they were able to decorate (desecrate?) our national mall with an impressive layer of trash.
All you visitors leave a mess, regardless of political affiliation.
It rose from the industrial revolution and the inequity it created. self-interest vs group (social) interest. there is a lesson, when one dominates the other.
Exactly. I mean, look how screwed up The Mall was after the Beck rally in late August.

Of course you'd think this - because the government is always justified in taking more of the money that I earn for its uses, right?
The issue isn't whether or not I earn more money in the future than I earn now. The issue is what happens with my take-home pay because of changes in government fiscal and monetary policy. Because of the likelihood of higher tax rates, I will have less money than I would have otherwise been able to spend/save/invest if the government left tax rates as-is. And thanks to the Fed's loose monetary policy, what money I do manage to earn will be worth less due to the devaluing of the dollar, and my savings will earn less interest due to the ridiculously low interest rates. Then again, I'm not at all surprised you'd gloss over the consequences of government policies.
Retirement planning is based on assumptions. If the retirement age and benefit payouts are up in the air, it's very difficult to do the necessary planning. For example, do I assume a full benefit payout at 70 or 75? Do I assume the benefit amount will be close to what current law dictates or less? If less, how much less? This sort of uncertainty can create a wide range in determining how much I need to save, what rate of return I need, and how long I need to invest to provide sufficient income in retirement. If Congress would get off its *** and take the necessary steps to solve the problem, I - and others like me - wouldn't have to be faced with this ridiculous uncertainty and could plan accordingly (since the more time we have to plan for something, the better we'll be able to cope with it).
Because of government policies, I will be financially worse off in the future than I otherwise would have been. If you can't understand that based on what I've posted, you truly don't understand basic mathematics or economics.
Do you live in DC? How many of these events (regardless of affiliation) have you been to, or been around?
That video is from the Washington Monument grounds, by the way. Beck's event was at the Lincoln Memorial.
You're missing the part where we have choices in having cable tv, buying gas, etc...not any choice in taxes.Keeping with your stupid premise then, when the cable company raises rates, they are taking away your freedom. When gas prices go up, OPEC is taking away your freedom. When milk prices go up, cows are taking away your freedom. Yeah, no wonder you knucks' are so paranoid all the time.![]()
Given I'm made quite a bit of money based on my finance degree and my MBA, I'll let that speak for my understanding of basic mathematics and economics and leave it at that.![]()
Ah, my very favorite logical fallacy. I am not allowed to opine one way or another on this because I don't live in DC, apparently. What a brilliant comeback.
I'm not questioning your opinions, I'm questioning your handle on the facts.
I have to deal with the large crowds here on a regular basis, whether for conservative rallies or liberal rallies or the Fourth of July or the Smithsonian's Folk Life festival or the National Book Festival. They all produce tons of trash.
I hope you enjoy today's poutrage.
I'm sorry, but Jesus never advocated socialism...ever. He never advocated any kind of economic or political system.
Jesus certainly didn't like the rich. Those ********Its good that you feel that way...because I never said that Jesus advocated socialism. I said he advocated sharing work and wealth.
There are many quotes from Jesus and elsewhere in the bible saying that folks should aim for wealth equality. Socalism is just a framework to manage that outcome. I would posit nowhere says that the rich should be forced to give up their wealth. But if socialism is accepted by society and would be successful in delivering a quality standard for living (neither of which it is)...then socialism could be fine.
But by and large, Jesus' perspective as shown by many quotes would align quite effectively with socialism in a scenario where it was fully accepted by society.
Then Jesus said to his disciples, "I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."
You're missing the part where we have choices in having cable tv, buying gas, etc...not any choice in taxes.
You can choose to buy gas from a different company. And if there's no company selling it for a lower price, then people are free to start another company to do so.you have a choice not to buy gas? Did you invent a car that runs on water? Also, have you invented a way to fly that doesn't involve taking an airline?
Appreciate the effort, but to say that raising marginal tax rates restricts freedom, then so does raising rates on just about anything that's necessary for living (food, transportation, utilities, etc). Funny, but I never pictured you and Bakunin as living off the grid, grow your own food, Unibomber types.
PS - I hear the price of a dozen eggs went up recently. My condolences also on the chickens restricting your freedoms.
