Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

I find it odd that so many liberal-leaning folks fully accept the evolutionary theories of Darwin with regards to biology, but despise the same concepts at work within an economy.

and those who think they will never see Social Security want to turn their health care over to the government.

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

Yes it is, because the federal govt is on the hook for it when uninsured people need medical care. Unless you're one of those "barter for health care coverage with live chickens" conservatives, it costs money when careless idiots try to game the system but then crash the emergency room for every illness. If you want to pass a law barring the uninsured from medical treatment, be my guest, but short of that the only fair thing to do is everybody having insurance.
So I'm guessing you're one of those guys that thinks I should be required to exercise more, or eat what you consider a healthier diet so that my healthcare bills aren't so burdensome on the system?

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

rover, I think it's cute how you refuse to publicly state the name of this wonderful "mystery man" governor that you apparently worship in your closet. It's ok, you can spit it out. :)

Can't speak to your situation, but I will say this about the question you pose. Smokers, fat @ $$es, etc should pay more for health insurance than those that are healthy unless they have a clinically diagnosed medical condition (thyroid problem for example) that makes them large. If your excuse is that you just can't stop yourself at the all you can eat buffet, too bad.

So, as nobody is going to admit smoking if they will be dinged for it on their health care, just jack up the price per pack and dedicate that extra money towards health care bill. Regarding weight, anybody in the morbidly obese category gets to feed the bears.

Geezer, I look forward to his campaign for Prez next year. He's going to have a real fun time explaining signing into law an individual mandate to the teabagger set. :D

so, that would be a "no" vote on individual freedoms?

Why stop there? Why not charge more for the people that drink too much, drive too fast, do dangerous things like skydiving and what not, should the government really get involved in deciding all of those things instead of leaving it up to the free market?

Well, car insurance goes up if you drink too much and get caught, drive too fast and get caught, or do dangerous things with your car and get caught and no one really seems to complain (besides those people that got caught)....so, maybe they should. ;)

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

I'll cut you some slack since you work for the company in question and were clearly in a tizzy about losing your health benefits. However, even you must realize that *any* company seeking to raise the cost of their health care whether its justified or not is going to use the "its the gumbint's fault" excuse and a good portion of dumb sheep will buy it hook, line, and sinker.

Fortunately for all of us, we do in fact have a test case for how this might work! Sticking to the subject at hand before someone goes off on a tangent, did you know that a state in the union actually implemented universal health care? Did you also know that as a result of its full implementation, fears of massive drops in employer based coverage never materialized? Furthermore, this particular state in question has by far the highest % of coverage for its citizens in the US, AND has managed a lower than the national average unemployment rate, thus also dispelling fears of this being a job killer.

Sounds like pretty sound evidence to me, as opposed to a fake news story discredited within hours.

So, anything that works in one state should be made a federal law? Or at least would produce the same results in the other 49 states?

Yes, and don't you dare ask questions... they know what's good for you.

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

Nothing like responding to an argument that nobody's made. :p
all the other reasons to hate health care are just complaints about the system they setup...the fact remains that the federal government has no business mandating that everyone must buy healthcare.

I'd rather that than either of the alternatives: a) the current system, where a lot of people don't get insurance and then do their health care at the ER, which is a significant cost in the system, particularly in some parts of the country, or b) forcing indigents to pay for their care by making it a non-dischargeable debt, allowing garnishment of wages, and so on.

And that's without even getting into pre-existing conditions.

I'm responding to an assumption that's always made... especially when we're dealing with Rover. Rover believes in the superiority of his elected and bureaucratic betters.

Fact is that health care, like other things, is predicated on the idea that we're too dumb to run ourselves and must be run by somebody smarter than ourselves. Somebody must control the levers in order to create a more perfect social order.

well, there were only two ways to solve the issue...what you described and what they enacted so I guess you are right. there are only two ways to solve everything...leave it broken or introduce gigantic government programs with no ability to pay for it.
