Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

Just because people are rioting over losing their benefits doesn't mean its wrong :p

Hey, I'm ok with it. I just would have enjoyed the bankers rioting over a Robin Hood tax at the same time. Austerity means just that -- no free riders, no Chicken Littles. John Galt can blow me.

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

way to stereotype.

This guy is actually much more like the soldiers I've worked with over the years, although they were Navy so of course they wouldn't want to be classed with Army. ;)

He's also exactly the kind of guy I want doing the job. I don't want some nutbar ideologue who believes in the political window dressing and I certainly don't want somebody who will stop and weigh the ethics of every maneuver. Let the guys do their job, take seriously that we're putting their lives on the line and as soon as practical bring them home, whatever the political cost from the Dolchstoßlegende poseurs.

It's funny, too. Right now I'm reading Charterhouse of Parma, and the description of soldiers in the Napoleanic Wars is exactly the same as this guy, 200 years later. I'm sure it was the same in the Roman Legions, too.

Ignorance.

Atheists and agnostics topped a survey of religious knowledge among Americans released on Tuesday by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life.

"On average, Americans correctly answer 16 of the 32 religious knowledge questions on the survey. Atheists and agnostics average 20.9 ... Jews and Mormons do about as well, averaging 20.5 and 20.3 correct answers," Pew said.

It found Protestants answered 16 correctly and Catholics on average 14.7.

On questions about the Bible and Christianity, Mormons and white evangelical Protestants scored the highest, while Jews, atheists and agnostics trumped the other faiths on their knowledge of Buddhism, Hinduism and Judaism.

"While previous surveys by the Pew Research Center have shown that America is among the most religious of the world's developed nations, this survey shows that large numbers of Americans are not well informed about the tenets, practices, history and leading figures of major faith traditions -- including their own,

You're reading. . .a book?! Watch out, the forum moderator's gonna get you.

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

Lawrence O'Donnell had a great bit on The Last Word tonight. He interviewed Levi Whatshisface (the kid that knocked up the Palin chick) but used all of Katie Couric's questions she asked Palin in the now infamous interview. Brilliant. Simply brilliant.

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

Exactly. There are way more atheists and agnostics with more "education" than there are without. Color me less than surprised.

I'm a Catholic and I got 15 out of 15 right on that test. What does that mean? Doesn't mean anything.

I'm starting to think Tundra is just cambam/Toad Patten in yet another wrapper. The posts are that stupid.

"If, um, you you you like your c-c-current, um coverage, aaahh, YOU CAN KEEP IT IDIOTS!" Unless the meaningless, expensive, overbearing regulation encourages your employer to drop it. Then feel free to vote for repeal, known to progressives as "the same failed policies" of liberty, growth and success.

And so will come down from on high the scolding of corporations. The words "greed" and "profits" will be used with scorn.

And yet, those of us who opposed this law from the beginning were saying from the get-go that this would be an unavoidable consequence of its enactment. Corporations exist for one reason - to make money. That fact in and of itself will have people levying the "greed" moniker right away, but we all need to make money.

This law now makes it cost prohibitive for a lot of companies who currently offer health insurance to its employees to continue to offer that insurance. It was always laughable that the bill's backers were counting on the level of employer-based insurance staying pretty much the same in order for it to work.

The only other option for these companies other than dropping health coverage, is to lay off employees. Then those employees have no job OR healthcare. And yet, the word will still come down that corporations are putting profits before people, as though they could continue to operate putting people (the ones that are already benefiting from having a job) before profits (the thing that keeps a business going).

I hate to say I told you so, but I do believe I told you so.

As opposed to making them the basis for a secular religion?

There are plenty of ways to have the Capitalist cake and not have it eat you. Just because you don't want Merck boning your 87 year old grandmother doesn't put you in the Paris Commune.

This may have worked before nearly half of the population of the developed world was living on the government dole. Try again.

I find it odd that so many liberal-leaning folks fully accept the evolutionary theories of Darwin with regards to biology, but despise the same concepts at work within an economy......as if we are able to eliminate "losing" and make everyone a winner. I guess that's what happens when you stop keeping score at little league baseball games--no one learns to accept and move on from failure.
