Notre Dame leaves Hockey East for Big 10

Again. I don't have to move the goalposts. The Little Six is bad. The Gophers are bad. The Badgers are bad. Your argument is "they will be better." That's your opinion. I will believe it when I see it.

You jumped into the discussion and implied they won't be better, then you've fixated on how bad they are now as your only evidence that they won't be better. It's comical.

It may be my opinion that the conference will be better, but at least my opinion is based on hard evidence and not full of hyperbole.

It is a fact that increasing the number of programs in your conference gives you more OOC games as a conference, and that this makes the conference less susceptible to a bad season by the programs at the bottom of the conference. It's basic statistics.

It is a fact that adding a program that has had the recent success Notre Dame has had will help even more with OOC Pairwise implications.

It is a fact that the B1G programs have had about as much success as any conference in the last 10 years on average.

Yes, it is speculation that a program like Wisconsin will return to the form of a program that makes it to the NCAA Tourney more than it doesn't. However, considering the facilities they have, the educational institution they are, the resources to hire good coaching they have, and the proximity to great recruiting areas in Minnesota, Michigan, and Illinois, the smart money is on them bouncing back to that level.

As amusing as it has been to listen to how desperate you are to beat your chest about being better than the Gophers the last few years (talk about being "thirsty"), you have yet to offer one concrete reason for why you think the B1G will remain down or why a school like UW won't be able to get back to being a program that wins more than it loses.

First of all, the Bentley thing was qualified as a "perhaps", and yeah, they'd have to upgrade the program and its facilities. I'm not sure exactly what the relevance of NICC is at this time, as they've already begun their good-bye tour. Keep your "brands" at the bog box retailers, I could honestly care less. I'm also not troubled if HE sticks at 11 teams for awhile (I kinda predicted that in my original post anyway, didn't I?) but they seemed to be in a pretty big hurry last time they got to 11 teams (see UConn) to move up to 12 programs, so it's probably logical to assume they're leaning in that same direction now, all of 3+ years later.

I'm not sure where the big long waiting list of ECAC schools looking to position themselves for HE membership even begins? UVM made sense, but I'm not sure any of the others are overly eager. So what does that leave us with? The low level D-1's or start-ups ... then who?

You mentioned Bentley and i disagree with it. In regards to brands, Hockey East is also a brand in college hockey. Standards and expectations apply. I doubt they are looking for a non established program to bring into the fold unless they think they have something to add. As for who? They don't need to add another team. They had an odd number of members before and didn't suffer because of it.

Ive said it before and I'll say it again:

The idea that Bentley or Holy Cross could be HEA schools just goes to show how much HEA fans just flat out hate driving.

I'm not advocating either but you do realize hockey east took on a tiny school/program like merrimack, right? There has been talk of bentley and a new rink. Holy Cross is playing BC and PC next year at the DCU Center in Worcester. Not much different than uconn playing in hartford except holy cross is actually in worcester. What schools are you recommending?

Yeah, he cares so little i bet it's half his posts since it was announced. As I said to all - don't feed. :)

Here comes the babysitter to tell you guys it's bedtime!

It is possible to care about Notre Dame joining the B1G and not care whether the teams in the conference win or lose. That isn't a contradiction.

Not one of these things is a fact.

Re: Notre Dame leaves Hockey East for Big 10

I wish there were such thing as ND hockey fans to talk trash to.

Yeah, that was pretty amazing. I'm watching on TV...when ND scored there was like NO cheering at all...sounded like an empty building. And the "argument" was that attendance would be "bolstered" by keeping ND in Cincinnati. So much for that...it sounded like there were ten times as many Michigan fans there.

Even if the game was in Fort Wayne, there would still be more Michigan fans. That actually happened once in the 2000s.

Re: Notre Dame leaves Hockey East for Big 10

I thought Notre Dame fans at Compton showed up more for Michigan games. From your experience, do you think we'll see better crowds there for B1G schools?

They did, but it's just the football fans who go to a hockey game because a rival is in town.

Hard to tell. It's been awhile. There were like 6 people in the stands during their 2012 CCHA home series against OSU, a big name school.

The B1G Tournament attendance will still be terrible if they keep it in the format that it is. Their fans never even made the shortish drive to Detroit when they were really good in the CCHA.

Those ND chants you heard on the broadcast came from their band. They never shut the hell up. I guess someone has to make noise in their favor. You will grow to hate them because of their annoying band.

Yeah, they really need to move the first round onto campuses. Hopefully they can do that with Notre Dame joining. I think they need to seriously rethink their pricing and promotion for the conference tourney too. I think having more than just you guys or just us having great seasons at one time will help too.

Re: Notre Dame leaves Hockey East for Big 10
