Notre Dame leaves Hockey East for Big 10

Re: Notre Dame leaves Hockey East for Big 10

No one with a brain would EVER, place UConn ahead of Minnesota, academically. And if you look at other more reputable rating services, I wouldn't be surprised if every single school you listed was rated higher than UConn.

This is based on facts or do you JUST KNOW?

Re: Notre Dame leaves Hockey East for Big 10

You'd think so...
But the top 5 (and a half with NU) are in a different league that the bottom 6.5

You're right that ND struggled at 3-5-2 vs BC, Prov, Lowell, BU and NE during the regular season. Lowell went 4-3-2 and BU 4-4-3 so not a huge amount of separation between them and the two teams right below them. In the end they made the NCAA which is >>> a conference record if you had to pick one or the other. They left because it wasn't a great fit for both - pretty simple.

You're aware UConn is ranked ahead of IU, MSU, RU, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Purdue, and is tied with UMD according to US News, right?

First off, he's correct about the USNWR rankings:

USNWR
57. UConn
57. Maryland
61. Purdue
69. Minnesota
72. Rutgers
75. Indiana
75. MSU
82. Iowa
103. Nebraska

Other rankings are hit or miss, but not every single school is higher than UConn:

Forbes
93. Maryland
112. Indiana
130. Minnesota
136. Purdue
146. Rutgers
162. UConn
169. MSU
183. Iowa
270. Nebraska

Washington Monthly
29. Minnesota
33. MSU
46. Purdue
60. Maryland
81. Rutgers
85. UConn
107. Indiana
127. Iowa
165. Nebraska

People with a brain have shown the ability to use the quote feature properly...

Re: Notre Dame leaves Hockey East for Big 10

They finished 3rd in Hockey East. Let's stop being stupid and pretending they made the move for those reasons.

As a member of the CCHA under JJ (8 seasons) the team won 2 regular season titles and 3 league titles. The team finished with 20+ wins 5 of 8 seasons and broke 30 wins twice.

As a member of HE the team has won 0 regular season titles and 0 league titles. The team has 1 season with 20 or more wins and has finished 3rd, 5th, and 8th.

I think the biggest reason was travel, but dismissing the lack of success as not having a role would be... well stupid.

It means the argument that this is why they left is pretty ridiculous, no matter where you are.

I guarantee if they were winning league titles left and right in Hockey East they would be as happy as a BU fan at an all-you-can-eat buffet concerning the travel of their student athletes.

So they placed 3rd once in 3 years, their best finish in HE. I guess they should be considered a powerhouse? The lack of success probably wasn't the primary reason but it can't be overlooked. Just look at Jackson's post game interviews, it was a constant stream of tears over how his team kept getting the shaft. I'm sure all those boxes of tissues to mop up his tears they had to budget for played a role too.

No, suggesting they left because of competition when the conference was their THIRD CHOICE to begin with is "stupid".

No one bolts from a conference they really want to be a part of after only 3 years because they haven't won the conference.

Nice straw man. When did anyone ever say they were a "powerhouse"?

I'll keep saying it because it apparently isn't sinking in. Hockey East was the THIRD conference Notre Dame went to after the shakeup. It has never been a good fit for either side. Dance around that fact all you want, but it blows a pretty big hole in the Notre Dame was all giddy about joining Hockey East until they started losing in the conference theories.

From what I gather them leaving is considered a positive by most Hockey East fans. Why are some of you all hot and bothered?

Re: Notre Dame leaves Hockey East for Big 10

Hockey East fans are thrilled with this news. It just seems that the concept of even the possibility of Notre Dame taking their ball and going home because they can't seem to win a title here is really ruffling feathers of dimwitted Midwesterners. That's all really.
