I'd imagine they're not the only team to not light it up against other tourney teams if said struggles still allowed them 3rd in the conference.
You'd think so...
But the top 5 (and a half with NU) are in a different league that the bottom 6.5

That option was in the America East bylaws before BU announced they were leaving the conference. If Hockey East also has that option written into the bylaws then they could exercise it, but if it is not written into the bylaws it is unlikely they could retroactively vote to do it.I recall BU being denied conference postseason eligibility by America East when they jumped to the Patriot League. I wonder if Hockey East wanted to make it really hurt, could they deny Notre Dame from the tournament next year and therefore not be required to revenue share the money from the Hockey East playoffs.
Funny you mention that. I saw this in a USCHO article today.
"Despite Notre Dame’s high standing in the Hockey East ranks this year, the placement is deceptive. The Irish were 3-8-6 (a .353 winning percentage) against teams that made the tournament this year, including 3-7-2 against Hockey East teams who made the tournament. The Irish might have their hands full against Michigan in Cincinnati on Friday night."

I don't think that does anything to bolster your ridiculous claim that this is why they want out of the conference that was their third choice to begin with.
It makes the most sense to put Cornell with RIT. The Rochester area is only about 1.5 hours away from Ithaca after all. But then that creates the weird issue of Princeton and Colgate being so distant. Princeton is the big outlier in terms of location within the league.
And.... No fans of Hockey East wanted them either. But the fact is they did not fare well against HE tourney teams.
Not disputing the fact they didn't fare well. Not faring well and wanting out of a conference that was their third choice to begin with are not mutually exclusive.
It is all about $$, geography, and fit. They should be in the B1G for all sports for all of those reasons.

Hockey isn't going to make them rich. I think the school has an identity crisis. Independent, then in the Big East which was traded for the ACC. In HE now going to the BIG. The BiG may well be their best fit. They just are not accepting it.
so it was their 3rd choice your sayin'..... twice
I tend to agree Notre Dame didn't leave because the competition was too much. Yes they have performed poorly against the class of Hockey East come tournament time, and have struggled in turn when it came to the NCAA's, but very few schools will leave a conference because they feel overmatched, especially if they are committed to success at the sport.
They're a better fit with the BI6, no one is arguing that. Most Hockey East fans didn't want them to begin with, and the BI6 fans acting like Hockey East fans are jilted lovers are just attention seeking (except UConn, but their feud is not that of the rest of the conference).
The BI6 teams are of the same institutional and athletics mind. Besides Minnesota, the rest of the BI6 looks at hockey as their third sport behind basketball and football. Notre Dame is in the same camp, hockey is nice, but so long as they are not an embarrassment to the rest of the athletic department there is going to be far less focus on it. This point is why most of us have the issue with the BI6 making unilateral decisions for college hockey.
I wish Notre Dame all the luck in the world in the BI6 and hope they can help fix the current dumpster fire. Personally I could care less, they didn't play Lowell when they were an OOC team, I don't expect them to start scheduling us once they join the BI6. Then again we have a better record against Notre Dame in the Norm Bazin era than we do against Sacred Heart.
So Notre Dame couldn't win in Hockey East so they will move to an easier league hoping to get to the top there.....good luck
Now Hockey East can wait and see what school as the guts to step up to first class hockey

Enough, let's get back to the discussion on all the research the big ten schools do
You're aware UConn is ranked ahead of IU, MSU, RU, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Purdue, and is tied with UMD according to US News, right?
No one with a brain would EVER, place UConn ahead of Minnesota, academically. And if you look at other more reputable rating services, I wouldn't be surprised if every single school you listed was rated higher than UConn.
