Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

any word on injuries?? I couldn't make it down for the game, i had to fly down to NY so i missed listening as well.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Daniels has an ankle injury, he went down right in front of us. Judging by his pounding of the ice he seemed to know he'd be out. Purely speculative, but a friend guessed a lower ankle sprain, as opposed to a high ankle sprain.

Tuckerman wasn't in the lineup, must have been injured earlier. I heard Muench was injured as well.

McNeely was injured, went off, came back for a shift, and then left permanently. No official word on his injury, though I've heard two separate things.

This game was endlessly frustrating, because the team showed flashes of good play, and then wide blocks of doing nothing. Ferriero and Oleksiak seemed pretty impressive to me, the other freshmen didn't do much to inspire me.

Wasn't a fan of the referring, but you can'y blame that on our loss,
They seemed to play a bit more aggressively the last few minutes, even scoring an extra attacker goal, but they deserved to lose this game.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Well the atmosphere will be identical to that which it was against BU this time last year... and Rawlings flourished on it then...

That last weekend against bu he did the opposite of flourish.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

strange that there is no mention of injuries in the game write-up. GoNU5 - what did you hear about McNeely?? I was told it might be a concussion. Sure hope not, we really need a healthy team to get anything done this year.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

I don'tt think McNeely has a concussion. He went to the locker room at first, came back 5 min later and played a shift. I don't think they would have let him do that with a concussion. I was guessing bruised ribs or something (which is extremely painful) since he was hit up high right before he left.

I hope Justin Daniels injury is an ankle sprain. What I saw reminded me of Quailer's season ending injury from last season. Daniels was really starting to flurish last year, don't want to see him out long.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Funny, I can't get any info on the injuries and sent Greg a text he usually gets right back to me so I am thinking they are something not nothing. I only saw the game on NUTV but what I saw did not look good. Let’s face it, they better get this fixed quickly, it’s like they are not playing as a team. Hopefully, they can gel because they are clearly very talented, not sure what the issue was or is but when they looked good, which was seldom, they looked great. PP looks terrible though. Tonight could be ugly! You can't go 4 PTs down out of the gate !

I heard concussion too, but it didn't seem to be a concussion based on the hit, so I thought he had some body injury going on. Daniels has a boot on though.

Second game into the season and we're already looking at playing Dongara and Morra. This team either collapses tonight in front of a sold out audience, or rallies and wins an epic game. I hope for the latter, but I'm expecting the former.

The one thing to say is that it's only the first week. It's certainly not time to panic and we're lucky with having some more depth than we had last year. This is also why Cronin scheduled all those AHA teams: so our young team could get the experience we'll need to play well down the stretch, when it's really important.

Nice to see Cody get his first (hopefully of many more).. last night. 2 one goal gms.. identical scores. Let's go team..let's reverse the trend & no looking back! Go Huskies :)

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Another close gm.. team looked good tonight (as compared to the first (exhibition) gm).. Rawlings looked superb. Reposting the rest from the NU-BC gm thread..

Great gm, both goalies played very well. The speed & back checking was awesome both ends.

BC capitalizing on the PP for the goal.. think a little bit of luck involved as well.. NU missing a wide open net with 45 secs left. BC sealing it with the empty net goal. I actually think the Huskies played quite well without Alex Tuckerman & Justin Daniels (i expected a blowout after our Providence injuries last night).. then actually thought for a while there we had a chance to win it tonight.. alas not to be. Still think better club won tonight, but Huskies looked good.

Now if we can only fix our W/L record a bit.. :) Hang in there team.. oh, Matthews was fun again!

Fun indeed! my first time at Matthews and it was incredible in there. Now i understand what everyone has written about it. During breaks in the game many times i just looked around in amazement. Great building, great atmosphere and GREAT student support.............you have a good team there so don't fret. Thanks Huskies, for a fantastic experience!:)

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

That was a great game, and my priority points have me in terrific seats I was with some Michigan guys who had never been to Matthews, some were ex hockey players and they could not get over the atmosphere at the old barn.

As for the game, they put up a good fight but missed too many nets, the PP looks terrible and they need to get that fixed. No points out of the box for the first weekend is not a good thing, some could argue they lost games to perhaps the worst team and the best team in the nation based on pre season polls.

Clearly, they looked pretty good last night, a big improvement from Friday. So we will just have to see what happens. I hear, Danials is a low ankle sprain, but if any of you have ever payed basketball you know that can take weeks to feel 100%. I am not sure if BC just didn't play well, they had a lot of PM's and we could not capitalize. However, the game could have gone either way, but that's the issue I always see with good teams, good teams make their luck. No matter what possitive spin I try and take, at this point all that I can come up with is that this was a 4 point potential weekend, and so far we have 0. There were 11 new faces skating though so who knows..too early to tell.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

If Northeastern had played like that against PC they would have won. They generated a lot of chances, the freshmen D played pretty well, and Rawlings stopped the BC offense for most of the game. I can't get mad about the game because they held BC to one goal (plus the empty-netter). Even the PP wasn't bad, even though they didn't score they at least created a number of chances, as opposed to before when they just cycled the puck for 2 minutes.

The trick will be to get this team to play like that night in and night out. I hope Vrolyk comes back 100% soon, and Daniels heals quickly. The plus side is now we have a few weeks of an number of OOC games, as well as UNH and Lowell, so we'll see a spread of strength and see how the team plays to them.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

j daniels more likely than not out for this weekend. should be ok for next weekend. tuckerman may be out for a while.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

It was an ugly tie. O for 8 PP. RPI was ranked 27 or 28. Newsflash, we are in a bit of trouble. I am hoping that we can work it all out, but my exp. tells me the issue is not enough exp., too many freshmen and bad penalties tonight, were the root couse of this tight game. Although at times they were skating circles around RPI. Tyler McNeely, and McCloud were far and away the most talented skaters on the ice tonight but the lines are not clicking. There was lots of slow play through the neutral zone, sloppy stick handling and they can't break out cleanly..Aside from that what can I say? I think they will work it out though. I still have hope. They need to take the New Hampshire game at home next week. In my view, a must win. Oh, Oleksiak and Ferrieiro brilliant but Stone and Bitetto looked pretty bad!

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Quick note: After watching BC absolutely dismantle Denver last night, it made me feel good about the effort NU had last Saturday night. Denver lost a lot from last year, but they are a very talented team still and I fully expect to see them in the tourney this year. I know I'm in the minority here, but I hope BC does it again tonight. ;)

I'm curious as to how RPI has played this weekend after game 1. They were here playing CC last weekend, and RPI made it clear that they wanted nothing to do with a skating/transition game against this fast CC team. They slowed the pace to a crawl, and pretty much put the World Arena to sleep at times. Great thing to do on the road, but it still only got the Engineers 1 point on the weekend. Plus I was happy to see the Tigers win a game Friday night that was far outside of their preferable and comfortable style of play. Anyway, is RPI playing that same style at Matthews, or do they seem more willing to open it up a bit? We have the Olympic size ice here, so that might have something to do with RPI slowing things down...d-men often have trouble on the big ice.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Tuckerman and Muench will not be back this year.
Justin Daniels should be back in November.
Maley might play again this year.
Will Hoefler play?
Jamie Oleksiak was the best NU player last night. I was told that there were a dozen NHL scouts present to see Oleksiak play. Could be one and done at NU, but I hope he decides not to turn pro next year. He is only 17! Will be the best D man in HE by the end of the year. Could be first D man selected in next springs NHL draft.
Rob Dongara had another excellent game. NU has only scored 4 goals this year and all by frosh! Lack of offense is a major problem. Defense and goal tending have been superb, only allowed 6 goals in 3 games. All 3 frosh D men are off to an excellent start. Wade MacLeod has been terrible. McLaughlin and Silva not much better. Must find a way to score goals.

Wow, you saw a totally different game then I did. MacLeod was not that good. Probably the worst i have seen him in a long time. Tried doing it all by himself way to much, forgot he had linemates.

Stone, along with the rest of his 4th line mates had a great first period. His penalty was stupid, and ended up screwing up the lines, but Guizor, a senior was just as bad with his penalty.

Ferriero did not look as good a center as did as a wing the week before. He still could teach a bunch of Huskies how to finish checks properly. Still waiting on Quailer to show up, showed signs, but needs to be more consistent.

Choppy game overall with the penalties all over the place. Cant win anything in October.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Steve Morra skated pretty well. I was impressed with his effort. Oleksiak was amazing & Rawlings was very good.. solid in OT. Cody had a bad night. We could have put it away on that 4x3 had it not been for his (lack of) play. It happens.. let's keep improving.

UNH will be like BC.. fast & hungry. Can't afford to make mistakes like we did last night. Guzior needs to chill a bit. Someone give him a hug :)
