Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

the ncaa rule committee wanted to make that a rule for this year but the coaches swiftly shut it down, they were trying the rule out in all exhibition games this year to get a better idea as to how it would work.

Thanks! I knew it wasn't a new rule but was confused in why it was so during the exhibition...

In other news.. BC shows no signs of slowing down scoring 8 in their opening exhibition gm. Hope our 'D' steps it up for the home crowd. Same for Rawlings and/or Witt, though Chris has played the Eagles last yr at Matthews, i am assuming he gets the nod.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Toronto is terrible. Don't take too much away from that game. While BC could blow out anyone in D1 8-0 on a given night, that's how good they are, I wouldn't expect it to happen at Matthews on Saturday night.

I was worried about this game, but now I am going into this weekend thinking that whatever happens, happens. If BC routs us, we will be their first scalp of many, so what, not a big deal.

The nice thing is we wont have to face them again until the end of the season, barring a Beanpot matchup, and one would hope our new defense and young goaltending will be playing better then they are now. Those two games will be more important then the one on Saturday.

Beat PC on Friday, and its a good weekend. Steal any points on Saturday, its a great weekend.

I am looking forward to Saturday because BC has a chance to be one of those teams that you talk about seeing 10 years down the road.

Honestly, I'm much more concerned with the offense. I understand that it was only the season-opening exhibition, but even some upperclassmen went unnoticed for me. PP picked up exactly where it left off last year, which is unfortunate... it didn't work last year, and I fail to see how it will work this year.

I will say, there were a few things I saw that showed me quite a bit of promise. Zak Stone, at a towering height of... 5'7"?... was following through on some massive checks and showed the most heart of anyone on the ice that night. Also, although I didn't notice him much from the 2nd period onward, I thought Bitetto showed us a bit of what he's capable of, and I'm actually looking forward to see if he's the one to fill Newton's void. Witt, aside from the unintentional comic relief, also leaves me wondering what he's capable of.

Also, that Ferriero slapshot was pretty f'in impressive... hopefully the aim will soon follow.

In other news, former recruit Mitch MacMillan put up a goal and an assist in his first collegiate game at SCSU on their first line. It'll be interesting to see what he does this year.

as far as the Eagles are concerned, you have to play the games so to me, enough already about how good they are and secondly, when was the last lopsided BC win in Matthews? i dont recall it........ i only remember tight games there............

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Hey guys - thanks for allowing Mitch MacMillan to become a free agent and join the SCSU squad. He scored 2 points in his first stint as a Husky and was clearly one of the top first-year players on the ice.

Seriously, too bad it didn't work out at Northeastern as it appears he'll have a successful run in St. Cloud.

Good luck with your 2010-11 season. Now, on to the UNH thread to thank them for Cam Reid.

2001-2002 we lost 7-2.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Eibler and Bitetto better play a little more conservatively against BC or we will get burned. I was surprised by Oleseliak he moves well for being that huge, my only critique is that he needs to shoot the puck more especially on the PP.

Offensively, I saw a lot of talent without much chemistry between linemates. I think Ferriero, Pimm, Reid and Stone can all be solid contributors this year but at least at the beginning of the year I would stick them on lines with older players. Three highlights of the game to me were the Ferriero cannon on the PP, a couple unbelievable passes from Reid and Stone laying a guy out who was six inches taller than him.

Quailer looked like he was skating well coming off the injury and I thought Rawlings looked pretty solid in net, can't wait for Friday/Saturday.

Do not get me wrong, I would love to beat BC on Saturday, but I am not going to look at a loss in that game as earth shattering. IF our defense and goaltending look out of place in that game, it would be expected.

As for the forwards and PP, lets remember, how many practices had they had as a full team prior to Saturday night? One? Going into PC they will have a full week, the coaches have some tape to show the team, and an idea of who looks good with who on the ice. Trying to figure out who the frosh can play with without keeping the upperclassmen from doing their things can take a bit

I didn't go Saturday night, i don't do pre-season games, but from what I understand their was alot of line mixing which is to be expected early in the season, and for the PP not to be clicking is not a big deal, especially with frosh on the point. PP is probably something they look to work on last. (and if the PP continues to stink, not a big deal, it has throughout most of Cronin's time here.)

Friday is the biggie. Cannot start the season by dropping points to one of the leagues weaker sisters.

What the hell happened to him? How did they lose him?

He didn't sign a LOI and reneged at the last minute, his reasons weren't really specific.

EDIT- In terms of the games this weekend, I'll be headed to Providence to watch the first real game of the season, and of course be at Matthews for Saturday's game. I think Friday's game should be good to watch, if only because Providence's fans are hilarious to heckle. Saturday will be thrilling, I hope they at least keep it close and not look too bad out there.

Zak Stone is not 5'7". He's more like 5'10 1/2" and a solid 190 lbs. He did look good on TV. sorry I missed his check, but I suspect that we'll see plenty more of them. It's the nature of his game.

After last yrs tight finish.. are there really any weak sisters in HE? But you're right..if we do well @ PC..will give us some momentum for the following night. We ran into solid goaltending in that exhibition gm.. hoping that does not happen back to back.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Well we are playing last year's only weak sister friday who just happen to have arguably the best goalie in the league. 2 points is all i want from this weekend, i dont care how it happens, but i just want points.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

One minor advantage we might have - PC hasn't played a game yet. Those 60 minutes we had might help out a bit to gain hopefully 2 on the weekend

thinking about making my first trip down to providence (for a game) this weekend. What section is everyone sitting in?

Section A is the ticket I have, Blackman has them on sale, I think it should be there (though the student had no idea they were on sale, the guy in the back had to get them). Providence doesn't seem to really care where you sit, we brought about as many fans as Providence did last year.
