Northeastern 2021-22: Our Doggie Dish Runneth Over?

Well, clearly the men's and woman's teams are not the same without their goalies. That said, I'll take these 3 pts in regulation tonight. We have a few games in hand having played only 16 HE games so far so we will need to pull out some Ws down the stretch. No Levi hurts.

Can't speak for the ladies but I don't think anyone expected the kind of performance TJ Semptimphelter turned in tonight. "Please, sir, I want some more."

I think TJ stood on his head. BU is playing like it's 1995 all of a sudden so he's going to need to do it again. That said, I think we got lucky as BC carried alot of the play after the initial 10 mins. Would love to win 5. Also looking at the Pairwise it's entirely possible with strength of schedule the HE has only the Tournament winner and one at large bid, for perhaps only two NCAA selections this year

Another 3 points. I'll take it, still in the hunt to win HE regular season. 1 more win to 20. That's a milestone. Nice job TJ. D was the difference tonight. .

BU is playing their best hockey in years....not sure if NU has the gas to hang with them

Point well taken. Key is going to be NU finding a way to counter BU's team speed. On the plus side, I think NU might have the edge in goal. Strange thing to say with Devon Levi on the other side of the world.

Well, I don't think it was as close as the score but a one nill game is never easy, however this could be the year where only one HE team makes the NCAA based on the Pairwise. NU simply is not very offensively talented. They are better in goal than 99% of the nation and the D may be the best they ever had but aside from one or two guys they can't roll 3 lines that can score 3 or 4 a night. No NHL caliber snipers in my view, otherwise this team would have won 25 games by now.

Well nothing to show you woke up from a 4-1 loss with a 4-1. Win. The Friday night loss at home really kills their Pairwise a bit and their hopes of regular season champion. They still have one or two games in hand and could do it. Question When is Levi back? and do you give him the net? I don't think he saw a shot or had a minute between the pipes in Beijing.

Levi hasn't seen any game action since he left campus to join Canada, which didn't even dress him for the pre-Olympic scrimmage and let him warm the bench for one game. OTOH TJ Semptimphelter went 4-3 with a 2.05 GA and a .938 SV. The only loss I could really fault him for was BC but he was only part of total team flop. I'm sure Mike Condon will be paying close attention to both in practice before recommending a starter for the UConn series.

Speaking of which, NU really can't afford any more splits if it wants to stay on the right side of the Pairwise bubble. Vermont and a rejuvenated Mack should be doable. UConn looks to be more formidable but a sweep is now a "must have."

60 saves in the 3 to 1 win. I have to say I think they would have won the Beanpot had Levi had the pipes...this from a cold goalie who hasn't seen a game shot since UMASS a month ago. Hoping for a HE reg season championship and a deep run in the HE tourney. It will be hard to move much in the Pairwise and they may need to win the HE tourney to get in off the bubble. Only 1 or 2 HE teams will likely make it this season.

Unfortunately, NU's Pairwise destiny is no longer in its own hands. Can't move up much but can still drop like a rock. They really have to win out and hope if they have to depend on an at-large. And, notwithstanding Semptimphelter's heroics, you might be right about the Beanpot if Levi weren't in Beijing serving as a practice dummy for Canada.

As for last night's game, NU played its usual rope-a-dope defensive game and kept UConn mostly to the outside. They really had no choice since they were down a senior Dman (Kislin) and their best faceoff man (Hryckowian). Most of those 61 shots were harmless and Levi did Levi things on those that were not.

I’m not sure. Maybe Levi makes that’s save against BU, maybe he doesn’t. He couldn’t bring the offense to life though and that’s the story of the beanpot let down in my mind.

Pretty good weekend against UConn! Great to see a come back win. I don’t think we have seen many of those this season.

Nice 6 point weekend. I think the Boyz love to play in front of Levi..I think they lose the regular season championship by a point and it's a toss up between them and BU to make the NCAA. I think a potential 25 plus win season may still not have them in the tourney.. unheard of. That said NU is now a forever a force in HE and nationally and should continue to recruit as well as better as BU and BC going forward

That might have been this team's best overall performance of the year despite some uncharacteristic penalties and a dismal faceoff performance. UConn had the edge in the first period but it looked to me like NU has the edge in the second and owned the third. UConn got significantly more testing shots through than it did on Friday but Levi did what he had to do when he had to do it. This team now has a good shot at a 2nd place regular season finish provided it takes care of business vs UVM on Tuesday and (not your father's) Merrimack over the weekend. Maybe even an outside chance at 1st if BC can be the BC we've known vs UMass.

Something that's been generally overlooked is that NU is the 3rd youngest team in D1, which would explain some of the offensive woes that have marked most of the season. But if the kids are maturing and finally putting it all together, they might be a tough out in the playoffs.

The loss to VT is pretty much the end as I think they need to win out and win HE to make it. Only one or two HE teams will make the tournament, this team could win 25 games and not get a selection, that's the issue I see as we as a league didn't seem to play much of a non conf schedule against any teams of significant power likely due to Covid travel fears. And bam we win tomorrow and if BC can knock off UMass again we win HE regular season. That VT loss hurts. They win that game and we would have controlled our destiny. Still we were picked 5th if you told me we would have a chance for 1st on the last day i would have said you were crazy.

Hell Yeah, NU wins the regular season and I am exhausted from the drive up to Merrimack to see my Huskies beat the Warriors. That loss to VT woke them up and I think they would have beaten BU for the pot, Levi to win best goalie in the nation in my book. Awesome job Huskies.
