Northeastern 2021-22: Our Doggie Dish Runneth Over?

MC fan here. Congrats on your 1st regular season title ever. I was extremely impressed with NU's speed and poise with the puck. Gave 'Mack very little space to work with the entire game. Harris and Hughes really stood out. Clean game throughout, end of game scrum was unfortunate/heat of the battle. You may end up with someone suspended that came off the bench and dove onto the top of the scrum (all of the other Huskies who came off the bench stayed on the other side of the ice).

So, On March 5-6:
  • NU whockey wins its 5th consecutive HEA Tournament championship. Dynasty.
  • NU mhockey wins an improbable HEA regular season championship on a dramatic clutch goal with nine seconds left vs a game Not-Your-Father's Merrimack with assists to similar late-game heroics from BC vs #Flagship bandwagon
  • NU hoops, a punching bag all season, wins a CAA Tournament game
  • NU baseball sweeps three at #8 North Carolina State
Our doggie dish doth indeed runneth over.

Congrats to the team. What a season. We've looked shaky more than a handful of times but we really willed this one at the end. Levi is worth his weight in gold. Let's win some more games in teh postseason and keep this party going

Getting back to hockey, the injury bug has to be concerning going into the post-season. DJackson is apparently done for the year; TJackson apparently got hurt on Friday and didn't play Saturday; and Justin Hrykowian, their best faceoff guy, hasn't been seen since the Beanpot semis. That's three of your top nine forwards.

OTOH, stick taps to the fourth liners and otherwise healthy scratches who combined to limit the impact.

I was at the Salisbury v Dexter Prep playoff game last Wednesday. A few NU players were there to watch and one of them I took to be Justin Hryckowian was wearing a shoulder harness. I'd guess that we won't see him again this year.

Hryckowian likely being out for season is just brutal. He has put up PPG in top tier of freshman classes over the last few years while having arguably more utility than madden or McDonough. Fun kid to watch. Look forward to seeing more of him

Well it was a nail bitter at the end but with 25 wins I think we win one more and we are in the NCAA. I think we wind up 12 or 13 in the Pairwise even if we lose a game or two. Still I think we can beat UMASS. Hey BU and BC see ya next year I have never seen so much whining over the course of the season to blame coaches for what is in reality a change in the dynamic nationally in the landscape of college hockey..it's not 1995 anymore. Players are great everywhere ask Quinnipiac or UConn heck Penn State built a top program in what 5 years..just deal with it. It's anybody's ball game now..and that's a good thing

NU ain’t much better than the teams you listed. No one in HE will be making a run at the ncaa title this year.

Ok, Rossi. Michigan, North Dakota, Minnesota, Denver all up there in the PWR. I think it's ok for BC to expect better than sub .500. There's more parity but it's not like the big programs are all just like everyone else.

There is more parity for sure but BC is still an elite program. They lost 3 first round picks and another very good player who's had NHL games this year, any team would take a step back after that. Still a ton of quality on this team, McBain, Warren, Helleson, McLaughlin, Nesterenko...that was a good win tonight.

If NU plays like they did in the 2nd they can win 2 games next weekend and make some noise in the big tournament. Ritzy being back is massive. His line with 10 and 11 was all over the place. Also, congrats to the women! Great day to be a Husky!

True ...but the gap is closing especially in HE, we had our share of injuries too and lost our goalie for a month, BTW tell that to UMASS, Union, Yale and PC...or even Quinnipiac, BC hasn't been in a final in a decade. They had great recruits all those seasons..NU still had 3 players on the HE 1st team and with the youth of NU they have had a pretty good season.

As I just said, try looking at the top 6 in the PWR. 4 juggernaut programs. That doesn't guarantee you win the title. But that is totally different than simply expecting BC to be better than sub .500. But hey congrats to NU. Maybe you guys will, ya know, actually win an NCAA tournament game for the first time since when?

1982...but I'll take beating you guys 2 times in any season.

I'll fret about the PWR tomorrow but for now, props to BC for not just mailing it in after being down three after the second. They'll be back. In the meantime, it's another good day for Husky hockey.

Appears like NU needs 2 of the following 3 things to happen to be guaranteed an NCAA berth:

UConn doesn't win HE
Minn St beats Bemidji State
Quinnipiac wins the ECAC

Let's take care of the first one on Friday. Also appears that if NU wins HE they'll be 11th in the PWR and a 3 seed.

Ah Rossi they played UML in the finals in 2019, got canceled in 2020, and was the HE regular season champs in 2021. NU has really moved up in the HE world so has UML and UMASS as well. BC will continue to be good and a team that will be a tough out at the end of the year for some time to come.

Edit: Add to the mix NU baseball handing almighty Clemson its first loss of the year, 5-3. At Clemson
