Northeastern 2021-22: Our Doggie Dish Runneth Over?

Any chance we get any of the injured guys back this weekend? These two games are huge, both in the league standings and the PWR with both teams currently on the NCAA bubble. With the current health of the team, I'd definitely sign up for a split...but Wentworth could win some HE games with Levi in net so I guess you never know.

BTW, NU's non-hockey grad answer to Perry Laskaris is Alex Faust '12, who has been the pxp voice of the LA Kings for the last couple of years and seems to be highly regarded. The anti-Jack Edwards.

Only a matter of time before he's a national guy (if he wants to be) He's terrific and I love that the stars aligned and he called our 2015 HE championship.

The hockey gods apparently still have it in for NU. Per Mark Divver on Twitter, not only do they not get any of the six injured back in time for Providence this weekend, they might lose even more to "sickness" going through the team. The only silver lining is that NU doesn't lose anyone to the WJC this year.

It doesn't matter when you have the best goalie in program history between the pipes. Shut out number 5 or 6 ? and it's not even the break. About to have best GAA in the nation. I really don't care what other peeps say..I mean so far our goalie hasn't scored on himself but it's a long way to a national championship game so anything is possible. We are still scoring only 1or 2 goals a game..we have 12 wins and have played for a month with most of our starters out..who isn't on board about Levi?.I have seen 354 college hockey games since 1982 ..kid is insane..! Our PK is pretty good too, and that's a good thing because we take some stupid penalties. Feeling optimistic because tonight we played a good PC team strong on their ice with best D to date. We still have alot to work on, but man...are you kidding me 1st place in Dec with a new coach, I would have never predicted that.

Absolutely wild. How we keep doing this, Levi pulling us along. Bravo.

Levi being Levi notwithstanding, it was team defense that pulled us along last night. PC was pretty much kept on the perimeter and when it was able to penetrate, Levi was there. Leaman will no doubt make some adjustments to deal with the clogged shooting lanes but a weekend sweep is achievable and would work PWR wonders.

Insane to look at the HEA standings this morning and see NU on top given the unrelenting casualty list.

We get out shot tonight nearly 2 to 1 and again win..with 4 goals. Who knows..I glad I went. It is possible to win 13 before the break...I can't remember that ever happening. If not for COVID and our tournament cancel who knows. Still a much needed rest to heal up. It's strange they are not as deep offensively as many teams of the past 10, and they don't have that one or two silky o guys like DS, JV, JG or AG..but the D is better all 4 lines are tougher and the team is just nasty in the sense that they skate with determination..still think LEVI is the Bomb. Pretty Happy on the ride home from the barn. Great 1st half.

One thing this team has is character--and lots of it. The last several games have been gut checks but last night's performance went well beyond that. It's obvious that these players not only believe in each other but also have bought into the Jerry Keefe defense-first system. What we saw this weekend was textbook team defense, and when Providence got something through to the net, Levi was there. (I think he can be forgiven for the one naked rebound that accounted for PC's lone goal).

If this team continues to play with the same character and intensity after the injured regulars return, it will have to be reckoned with come Beanpot and playoff time.

Northeastern has announced that no fans will be admitted for any home games until at least January 4. Right now only basketball games are affected. The next hockey home games are January 7&8 vs Long Island.

Merry Christmas to everyone in the universal college hockey family (even the Comm Ave Axis). Hope the man found everyone's chimney.

Kind of weird NU is breaking out new red throwback uniforms in front of no spectators against Long Island. But if we take care of business that's all I care about.

Any updates on the injured guys? I assume most, if not all, will be back?

Another W and another SO for Levi..this team has no true goal scorer but is defensively the best I have seen in decades. However tonight they looked really bad in the W. Hoping it was just some rust after the break.

Of course they have scorers! Start with McDonough, the Jacksons, Colangelo, Fontaine, JHughes, Novak. Then there are the Qu?b?cois Choupani and Hryckowian. They have all enjoyed prolific seasons. For some reason, the coaches just haven’t found the right combinations or style/approach/system to scoring that is difficult to defend. The team moves the puck up the ice and around the periphery with great skill. Perhaps moving the puck through the middle, and hunting it there, would disrupt the defense a bit and yield more of the precious grade “A” opportunities that lead to goals.
Just an amateur’s guess.

The season is greater then half over and aside from McDonough none of the players you mentioned seem to be able to crack the code in HE as legitimate contender to break into a top 20 spot in the NU points history book. However in spite of the scoring drought, the team has been winning one goal or two goal contests all season with the three lines of good D, one of which may contain the best D man in college hockey, all while being backstopped by the number one goalie in the nation and statistically thru 1/2 a season is likely the best goalie NU has ever had. I mean really one goal against Long Island that may have been rust but by Wednesday the team could have 16 wins..that would be the best start in school history. I hope you are correct but rarely have I seen significant change in offensive production this late into a campaign. I would have kept those returning starters on the pine for a few weeks because the best hockey was being played just before the break. Hopefully you are correct and the offence starts to click but I don't see many 20 to 30 point guys on the roster.
