Northeastern 2021-22: Our Doggie Dish Runneth Over?

Thanks for the info, I think they are pretty sharp, but I can understand the lack of affection for something gold in Boston when you are a Northeastern fan.

Man we look absolutely lost and brutal at some points of the UCONN game, it was my 1st trip to the barn in 20 months. For the record, I loved the red jerseys myself. There was also a grass roots movement of ex players and friends of NU hockey to design a patch in support of Cronin when he was being dethroned. Alas, "Free Cronin" only wound up in the student section on a sheet of poster board for a few weeks before Roby nixed it.

The gold is in our official brand color guide, but its only supposed to be used by the office of the president. Maybe that came into play here, maybe not. It looks fine but given other school's colors I'm not high on it.

I'm looking forward attending tonight against Maine. It looks like we have managed to play the first 5-10 minutes of each game well, unlike the last couple years where the first period always seemed sluggish. I'm hoping they can learn to build momentum off a strong opener and not get downcast when they fail to score or the other team does.

4 shutouts in 7 games...that's never happened before and I think only Rawlings had maybe 5 in an entire season. I was at both games this week Tuesday when they looked kind of flat and lost and tonight which was their most complete game. Clearly tonight was their best game defensively and Levi had help for once. I know Maine is rebuilding year but we need 6 points this weekend. So we will see if they don't have a relapse. I really don't know who or what this team is yet.. however I remain cautiously optimistic. When Levi sees the puck he is really smart and good.

Maine, game 1: when this team is good, they're GOOD. It depends who they're playing (their style isn't as effective against all opponents), it depends how hard they're playing, and how focused they are (others have pointed out the blind passes that turn into bad giveaways). A slow start, but I like seeing some guys like Colangelo get in on the scoring. With this team, same as last year, I can't tell if it's because they're playing to their potential or the opponent isn't that good. In any case, a good response from them after Tuesday's game.

My big problem with the UConn game was the defense, which is supposed to be NU's strength but didn't show up that night. But the D certainly showed up last night, took the pressure off Levi, and the result is another shutout. Encouraging to see some distributed scoring and Sam Colangelo getting a two-point night. If he and Gunnarwolfe can reprise their Chicago Steel days, the offense will be much less of a concern.

Biggest disappointment: The crowd, which was posted as 2,138. But the place looked next to empty on TV. Even the Doghouse was half-empty. Bloom off the rose or long lines at the doors because of COVID checks and related protocols turning people off?

Power play is depressing. I think Harris needs to come off the unit, better off giving someone else a chance.

Fair point. Jerry Keefe has been recognized as a kind of PP guru so hoping he's able to fix what's so obviously wrong. Personnel-wise, the talent is there.

I thought last night's game was fairly complete, though not as close as the final score indicates. My thought is we still play in flashes, looking great for a few minutes then pendulum back to bad, that kind of inconsistent play and decision making will likely keep us from competitive play against ranked teams, that said Levi quickly becoming one of the best in program history. NH is a bigger sheet and tonight's game at the barn is better suited to our style of quick play, so hopefully we get another 6 point weekend. I am still in fits over the UConn loss where we just played sloppy. Hopefully that game does not come back to haunt us. Still very optimistic about our Huskies. I we are progressing each week a bit as we develop on ice chemistry, which is a huge part of the game that doesn't appear on any stat sheet. Go Hounds!

Seems pretty clear by now that this team is built from the goal on out. Defense and goaltending--especially the PK--have been lockdown good. Signs of life up front, especially in the 3rd period, though the PP continues to be Missing in Action. Encouraging to see something resembling distributed scoring with Novak and RSL finally lighting it up.

6 pt. Weekend. 1st place. I thought we played pretty well tonight, in a very empty barn. We really got out shot, but that's a deceving stat. Levi continues to be a beast. D looks better each week too.

I was fortunate to be able to see tonight's game in person. Being able to cheer along with people, instead of just at my TV, is a lot more fun. Based on the crowds they got for the first couple games, I was a little disappointed by the turnout tonight. I thought when the Huskies got some offensive zone possession, were aggressive enough to create some deep turnovers, good things happened. Getting a power play goal in the first period really set the tone for the game, as did killing about 6 and a half minutes of UNH man advantage. The team is starting to crash the net better. Levi - he continues to show his athleticism and his glove is very active. I don't know if it's possible for him to get bigger but I could see him adding some strength, to let him own that crease.
The NU band is doing a tremendous job. The Dog House filled in but it feels like they need some fresh material.
UNH - remember when they were relevant? A regular national contender? I increasingly don't. As I watched this game, especially after they couldn't produce a goal on all those power plays at the end of the 1st/start of the 2nd, I thought, if NU gets a second and especially a third, UNH is toast. They didn't have anyone that the Huskies' defense couldn't handle.

Encouraging. Could easily have been a lopsided shutout were it not for some missed finishes in close and an uncharacteristic defensive lapse after the last PK expired. Now it's on to Harvard and a chance to restore some luster to HEA, which so far is a lamentable 18-20-4 against OOC opponents. Also a possible Beanpot championship game preview if both get past their Commie Ave. opponents in the first round.

This game should be a "must-see" and the outcome will certainly have national poll implications. NU so far has been lockdown good on defense and in goal while H doesn't seem to have any problems putting pucks in nets. And both are among the youngest teams in D1 hockey. Buckle up.

Wow, picked the top right shelf for the breakaway win in OT, and I saw it with all 3 of my grown children... awesome ending. They lost their Mom, my ex to brain cancer in Sept and we have been doing something together each week. Tonight's game was a last minute decision, so happy we all went. That said, game was a bit of a chess game and one we easily could have lost. Nice to beat a quality opponent. Levi was the difference especially during a questionable 5 min major game misconduct.

So very sorry for your loss but one of the great things about sports in general and college hockey in particular is it's ability to to bring folks together and heal wounds. So hang tough and all the best to you and your family.

This game could well be described as an artful grind. Two young, fast teams, neither of which gave up many quality scoring chances. Seemed inevitable that the outcome would be decided by a mistake or lucky break. NU's depth was also a factor as it played this game with three RW regulars on the IL.

Harvard is for real. A rematch in the Beanpot championship game would be compelling.

I'm expecting another artful (or maybe not so artful) grind against Lowell tonight. I'm hoping our powerplay can pick up steam. Lowell's kill isnt exceptional at ~76%, but part of that is ASU went 4 for 6 on the PP in Lowell's season opener which accounts for over half of their pp goals against.

I'm not sure who we will see in goal for Lowell, but I wouldnt mind seeing Henry. Savory's .946 save % through 4 games only beats out or own Levi who is .945 through 11.

Glad we only play 1 this weekend with Colangelo, Jackson & Hughes still out.

Lowell is in my top 4 in HE this season, but so are we.

Northeastern 3-1

I'm expecting a not-very-artful physical grind, given Lowell's size, the fact that they always seem to play a physical style, and likely will play with something of an edge after being ambushed by Long Island (a 3-3 "loss") last week. If that's the case, NU will likely have some opportunities to burnish the so far less than spectacular PP.

Agree with OnePack: NU 3-1 in another close checking game despite the fact that the wise guys have installed Lowell as a solid favorite.

We look decent through 2 periods. Good defense. Lowell controlling more of the game but hey, Levi can handle it. Up 1-0

There's also one person behind each goal wearing a red shirt and when there's a close chance I keep thinking its the red light turning on....
