Re: Nice Planet, Part 2: A-holes on parade

Go sit down near the toy aisle in Walmart for an hour and tell me that there isn't too many idiots out there having too many kids out there.
I didn't say there weren't idiots having kids. I asked why you want us to as "free" as China....

Who knows whether this woman is playing to domestic Argentine politics or not. I just know that the last time the Brits employed their not so secret weapon: the Gurkhas. The thought of these incredibly dedicated, highly trained, unbelievably fit devils creeping around at night with their koukris, looking to slit the throats of Argentine conscripts must have made for some sleepless nights.

Why not?? There's a lot of idiots out there, and do you know what they're out there doing?? Making more idiots! China realized a while ago that it just wasn't going to be able to support itself if everybody there was popping out a basketball team by themselves.

Wow, even Obama is less of a Communist than you are.

Re: Nice Planet, Part 2: A-holes on parade

how does one wishing to practice (or impose) population control turn one into a communist?!?!?

I probably should have used "fascist" but I wasn't being serious anyway and am pretty sure you got the point regardless.

Re: Nice Planet, Part 2: A-holes on parade

I probably should have used "fascist" but I wasn't being serious anyway and am pretty sure you got the point regardless.

Totalitarian might be more accurate, encompasing as it does so many regimes. Hitler approached the "problem" from two directions simultaneously: Lebensborn from one direction, Treblinka from the other.

The governmental impulse to "perfect" society by intruding into the most intimate relations between humans is not new and should be resisted at every turn. You cannot be free in any meaningful sense of the word if government can, on whatever pretext is handy, dictate whether or when or with whom or how you can procreate--especially with no due process for those rare instances where such intrusion can be justified.

Denny's is at it again. The top cop in Belleville, Il. has ordered his officers not to patronize a local Denny's, on duty and only in civilian clothes off duty, because a half wit manager there told plain clothes detectives they couldn't wear their weapons inside because some customer complained about them being armed. I should think the appropriate response to the "worried" customer would be something along the lines of: "They're cops dumb a*s."

Recall ten or fifteen years ago Denny's had a series of incidents involving allegedly bad service to black customers. The most flagrant of which involved a group of black Secret Service agents (who were presumably armed, BTW).

From Wiki:

Racial discrimination lawsuits

During the 1990s, Denny's was involved in a series of discrimination lawsuits involving several cases of servers denying or providing inferior service to racial minorities, especially black customers.[12]

In 1994, Denny's settled a class action lawsuit filed by thousands of black customers who had been refused service, forced to wait longer, or pay more than white customers. The $54.4 million settlement was the largest and broadest under federal public-accommodations laws established thirty years previously to end segregation in restaurants and public spaces.[13]

These are some of the most notable incidents involving racial discrimination at Denny's, all occurring after the settlement:
A black Denny's customer was told, in 1995, that he and his friends had to pay up front at the counter upon ordering their meals. He questioned the waitress: "We asked the waitress about it and she said some black guys had been in earlier who made a scene and walked out without paying their bill. So the manager now wanted all blacks to pay up front."[14]
Another 1993 incident occurred when six black United States Secret Service agents visited a Denny’s restaurant in Annapolis, Maryland. They were forced to wait an hour for service while their white companions were seated immediately upon entering.[15]
In San Jose, California, in 1994, several black teenagers were refused service unless they agreed to pay in advance.[16][17]
In 1997, six Asian-American students from Syracuse University visited a local Denny’s restaurant late at night. They waited for more than half an hour as white patrons were regularly served, seated, and offered more helpings. They complained to management and to their server but were forced to leave the establishment by two security guards called by Denny’s management. Then, according to the students, a group of white men came out of Denny's and attacked them[18] and shouted racial epithets. Several of the students were beaten into unconsciousness.[19][20]

After the $54.4 million settlement, Denny's created a racial sensitivity training program for all employees. Denny's has also made efforts at improving its public relations image by featuring blacks in their commercials, including one featuring Sherman Hemsley and Isabel Sanford, both actors from the popular The Jeffersons television series.[21][22] In 2001, Denny's was chosen by Fortune magazine as the "Best Company for Minorities."[23][24] In 2006 and 2007, Denny's topped Black Enterprise's "Best 40 Companies for Diversity." Guess I don't need to give my business to Denny's anymore.

I try to avoid all businesses that have signs saying they ban guns, even though my employer is one of the stupid that have one of those signs. Its just too hard to find another job I'd enjoy like I do this one. Anyway, at least the doors there all require badge access, so I don't think my safety is too threatened.

Re: Nice Planet, Part 2: A-holes on parade

Well, I guess if all hell breaks loose at Denny's, I wouldn't blame the cops for taking their sweet time getting down there, because, after all, Denny's doesn't want those guns around that restaurant.

Just how stupid is a customer who would complain about a booth full of cops, many wearing their badges around their necks with handitalkies squawking on the table? And how stupid is a manger who didn't tell that customer to pound sand? If I'm in a Denny's having a Grand Slam, especially overnight, I want those officers sitting in the next booth. Everytime.

Remember a couple of years ago Chris Rock's mom had an incident at a Cracker Barrel (which has its own history of alleged racial incidents). She had been a regular customer, got slow service on one occasion, and believed it was because of her race. Whether it was or wasn't, the manager went to her home, apologized, and presented her with a gift basket full of goodies and freebies.

Belleville is a town of about 45K, I'm hoping there's more than one overnight dining opportunity in town.

Exactly. And if I'm a manager, I'm happy to seat them anytime they want something to eat.

And I'm sure there's a Big Boy, or something similar, that would be more than happy to have them in their establishment, firearms or otherwise.

Re: Nice Planet, Part 2: A-holes on parade

One thing I don't understand is, why people are mad about having their names and addresses listed as being gun owners. That is basically a database of houses NOT to break into. I want people to know I have guns, so they won't mess with my ****.

If I ran another eatery (especially a locally owned one) I'd be all over local TV "news" letting the officers (and the citizens) know cops are welcome in my place of business. I'd announce "police appreciation day,"and offer some police specials.

That's one way of looking at it. Maybe some of them are concerned the next Adam Lanza's mom won't have weapons and would need a roadmap of where to go to get some.

Like one free donut with a coffee for any cops or fire/EMT perhaps??

For starters. Try to figure out some sort of community activity, where the PD takes the lead, and the eatery sponsors. Like Chico's Bail Bonds sponsoring a little league team.

I've got the perfect name for a donut shop: Smokey's Hideaway.
