Re: Nice Planet, Part 2: A-holes on parade

LAPD public info officer says no body has been recovered. Likely he's charcoal, but it will take time to ID the body
Check for a trap door with a tunnel. It always happens that way in movies / Novels.
:)

Sorry, but the cop in me and Mrs. P find this amusing.

Okay, the milk came out of my nose. That fluttering you hear in the background is the grassy knollists coming in for a landing.

Are the folks anxious to rationalize Dorner's killing spree based on his charges of institutional "racism" in LAPD concerned even a little that one of his victims was black?

And what difference does it make if the SBSO intentionally fired that "cabin" (1800 sq. feet!) or not? "By any means necessary" baby. Dorner didn't land on Plymouth rock. Plymouth rock landed on him.

The DoD has a new medal essentially awarded for playing a computer game.

What irritates me is that the desk jockeys think this is worth more than a medal honoring true heroes.

A recognition of the evolving 21st Century warfare, the medal will be considered a bit higher in ranking than the Bronze Star, but is lower than the Silver Star, defense officials said.

Awesome... We are going to start handing out participation trophies for "extraordinary achievement." A medal that ranks higher than the Bronze Star for doing a job that I could get any 12 year old boy to do for a raise in his allowance and promising to let him have the new Call of Duty for his birthday.

Now everyone can be Audie Murphy or Alvin York by pushing some buttons.

Before too many heads explode over this, perhaps we should find out what the criteria are and why the head shed has decided to rank the award slightly above the Bronze Star (without valor). At first blush, it seems hard to justify, I'll admit. But maybe we should hear the other side too.

School put on lockdown and full police response over...a military folding shovel a teacher asked a student to go fetch from his car.

If (and that's a big IF) I ever decide to bring children into this world, I'm homeschooling. At least when they turn out whacked in the head it'll be my own **** fault.
Depending on how the blade was positioned and what type of military shovel it was, confusing it with an axe is actually possible. I'm actually pleasantly surprised there were no charges or suspensions out of it...

Careful, some people on here think participation ribbons are a good thing.

I was honestly chastised for badmouthing participation ribbons.

Re: Nice Planet, Part 2: A-holes on parade

I don't mind the medal per se, but to try and elevate the status in this regard is preposterous.

Yeah, a medal that you can earn while sipping coffee in some AC room somewhere a thousand plus miles away, versus being out there in the mud and the blood and the sweat and the smoke and the sounds all while bullets are flying around you and death its out there somewhere ready to dance with you? I think the one where it is your arse on the line not some fancy weapons system.
