New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

So A Separation got a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and all the buzz was it's amazing, so we went to see it today. I'm sure it really is a great movie, but it's so slow and such an intimate study of claustrophobic domesticity that it just felt depressing and tedious. We left with another 45 minutes or so on the clock and it had already felt about 3 hours long.

So for valentines day, the gf and I went to see the vow last night. Actually pretty decent, although it helps the Rachel mcadams is near the top of my list. You spend most of the movie understandably annoyed with her character as she struggles with things. Ending is a little unfulfilling. Still a B+

Ghost Rider : Spirit of Failure

All flash, most of it lame, and no substance. If you do actually pay attention to the substance you realize within 1 minute of the film starting that it has very little to do with the first movie. Cage is the only returning actor and to make things worse they threw out the entire mythos they were using for some tired old xtian narrative. They didn't even reuse footage from the first movie.

Some of the action is well done but there isn't any gravity to what is going on. The Ghost Rider just kills a bunch of bad guys we don't care anything about. Most of the time it isn't even in any exciting way. There is sort of a cameo of Christopher Lambert and all that does is make you scream "THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!" during a scene that should otherwise be dramatic.

Contagion

Pretty good movie. Interesting view on how the world would react if a virus/disease of that magnitude really hit the population, and how the governments' processes on getting a vaccine work.

Vanishing on 7th Street

Well, that was a waste of time. Extremely lazy writing. If their goal was to not explain anything in order to make it more mysterious, they failed and merely made it annoying to watch. Seriously, I don't think one question was answered throughout the entire movie.

Pretty much what I thought as well. Just no connection to the first movie at all. They even changed the bike around too. The mythology just didn't jive that well, and personally, having more of a rockabilly sound track works for the Rider.

The action scenes, stunts, and camera work were all pretty good, but the plot of the story? Bleck!!!!

You guys paid to see that movie...that makes me laugh! ;)

In the "if you have no expectations, you might not be disappointed" category...watched Colombiana over the weekend. Had no idea what it was about but it was exciting enough...little over the top in a few scenes but that is ok. I liked it.

Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

I liked the first Ghost Rider and I don't care who knows it.

Saw "Centurion" over the weekend -- pure, mindless shlock, I loved it. It would make a great MST3K entry -- just bad enough to be interesting. No idea what the director, who did Descent and Dog Soldiers, both of which were great, was thinking.

Also, "Fermat's Room." The enigmas are a little disappointing because they're all classics, but it was an enjoyable puzzle movie.

The first one was enjoyable...but not worth seeing again or a sequel.

OK - who's going to see Act of Valour this weekend?

Expecting a two-large-popcorn afternoon! :D

I've heard very good things about it, especially as the articles say that actual SEALs did the actual actions you see on screen, no CGI, no stand-ins.

It will be nice to cheer whole-heartedly for the RWB again.

Unfortunately, the budget does not allow for first-run films these days; two tickets = about 1/3 of a tank of gas.

50/50

Decent movie. There were some really great moments in it, but I was a little disappointed overall. I thought it could have been much better.

Take Me Home Tonight

Well, it's a movie. Um, yeah, got nothing.

I hear you about the budget, but if you can find the $$ you HAVE to go see this movie.

No political statements -- just real SEALS doing what real SEALS do.

A must see IMHO.

Thanks to those who have and those who will go downrange!

So obviously I watched out of order, but I just got done with LOTRTT and overall it seemed better than the 3rd, although to be honest it felt like I had seen it before. And how the hell did they get Optimus Prime to do the voice of the head tree?

Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

It's actually John Rhys Davies, the same guy who plays Gimli. But that is a funny comparison I had never thought of before.

Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

I know the same guy did Optimus Prime for the movies as for the old cartoon series. Is he the dude that did pretty much every movie trailer in the 70's and 80's?

No, that's a dead guy. I forget his name, but it came up on the morning radio show I tune in daily.

Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

Finally watched "Grown Ups" (got a free copy when I bought my PS3 last year).

I expected a -1 (on a 1-10 scale). I'd actually put it at about a 4. Obvious jokes were obvious, but I can't say it was a horrible movie. I will say "arrow roulette" FTW! I can't believe my childhood friends and I never thought of that, and we did some really stupid sh*. :o
