Seriously watch his Inside the Actors Studio...the guy might be the only genuine man in Hollywood.

Different subject but you reminded me. There are some YouTubes of Stephen Sondheim coaching his actors. Anybody who has the least interest in musicals should check them out. He's the only guy in the performing arts who I'd actually call a genius. (Many people have virtuoso musical talents, but SS has the kind of brain where if he had gone into engineering instead we'd have our flying cars by now.)

I rewatched Groundhogs Day completely by accident the other night. Still fantastic! :)

Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

I never ever would have expected The White Shadow to star in a musical wearing a powder wig!

Nor Mr. Feeney (sp?) either.

I still laugh out loud whenever I recall that interchange:

TJ: "I burn, Mr. A."
JA: "So do I, Mr. J."
then everyone does a double take ..."you do?" "You, John?"

"Who'd have thought it?"

I love that part, too. :)

I'm always amused when people make comments like this, like there aren't already genius engineers out there.

But its ok, its cute that you think you know what you're talking about.

You missed both (a) the point and (b) the joke. Put down your solder gun and read it again.

Wow, Francis.

Wow, Francis.

The local Scots must have shoved that pole up realllllllly far.

Finally watched Superman Returns. Some moments were awesome, some were ".....the hell?" Overall, it was okay. Decent enough followup to the first two Supermans, and obviously wayyyyyyyyyyy better than those other two sequels. Although III was so bad, SO BAD, it was kinda good.

Rumble In The Bronx

I have seen this before, albeit years ago, with subtitles. It's on Encore....overdubbed. My Parise the overdubs are beyond comical. Soooooo bad it's awesome.

Killing Bono

Grew up a U2 fan with the Joshua Tree coming out when I was a senior and that made this film a lot of fun for me. A lot of the U2 stuff that is mentioned, I remember in real time.

Some good period/music jokes & references.

At 2.5 hours, slightly long, but i didn't get bored. Good movie, not great.

Killer Elite

Poor man's Shoot 'em Up + Bourne

Fun for what it is.

Saw Chronicle today. Really well done and I liked the focus on the characters over powers. It did seem like a very streamlined version of Akira though and I wanted some more Andrew going on a vengeance streak but him getting in way over his head on the first day fit a lot better with the way their mental powers worked.

I always loved The Lorax. As a kid, it was my favorite of all the Dr. Seuss books. I'm astonished at how terrible the movie adaptation looks like it will be (although I probably shouldn't be surprised, I guess). Yowza.

I can pretty much guarantee that I will not be seeing this movie.

The opening scene of the animated Lorax scared the holy hell out of me as a toddler.

Anyone remaking those specials should be summarily shot. I'm looking at you, Ron Howard and Jim Carrey.

Drive

So many things I want to say about this movie.

1. It's good. Really good. The ending is pretty predictable, but how it got there is the good part.
2. The "Scarface"-ish soundtrack took so much away from the movie, however, just like the actual Scarface soundtrack took away from that movie. At least Scarface had an excuse since it was filmed in that era.
3. I swear half the movie is awkward silence. Annoying at first, but as the movie goes on, you realize that it contributes to a greater sum of parts.
4. It's definitely a movie that will take a bit to set in, to get all the foreshadowing, the character depth, etc. Probably will need to see it twice to pick up on ALL of it.

The Double

Obviously about a double agent(Richard Gere) (not giving anything away here, painfully obvious) chasing a Russian spy that was thought to be dead/MIA years ago (who is actually Richard Gere, yes, he's chasing himself). However, the cat and mouse games that Gere plays with his partner in law enforcement is awesome. Very fun popcorn movie.

Explores the theory that Shakespeare didn't really write all those plays and such. Of course, set against a dramatic story/pseudo-history.

YAWN. I was excited to see this movie, and was sorely disappointed in it. The constant back-and-forth flashbacking, the meh acting, ugh. It had such potential and blew it.

The Best Worst Movie

Doc on how a bad movie happens to get made. Going into it, I thought this would cover bad movies in general, but it focuses solely on Troll 2 (which I have not seen, but will see it now!). Pretty entertaining, although it covers the actors in the movie, with the dad being the main focus, rather than the process. It's good enough to kill 90 minutes with.

I'm prepared. I've seen more than my share of Ed Wood movies. THOSE are horrid.
To everyone, a chef d'oeurvre:
