The Artist was fantastic, A plus squared. I hope it opens up the minds of the younger audience to the amazing legacy of silents and black and whites, and active vs passive viewing.

Hipster.

I finally watched Shindler's List. It is simply one of the most powerful movies I have ever seen. Absolutely incredible. I was ironing clothes and watching it at the same time, and for the last 15 minutes I had to quit and sit down, just to take it in.

I want to watch that for the exact same reasons that I don't want to watch it, if that makes any sense.

I forget if it was part of the movie's closing footage or a DVD extra, but did you see the documentary footage from when they filming the movie, the survivors and their families honoring Schindler? That was so moving that it became just downright painful to watch.

On the opposite end of the artistic/powerful spectrum, Yes Man is just as funny the second time, which really surprises me. 1. I didn't know it'd be funny (I hate Jim Carrey on an overall scale) and 2. Thought the repeat viewing would lessen the funny parts.

That was at the end of the movie, and yes, it was painful, moving and just simply incredible all at the same time.

I saw Schindler's List once in the theaters and never again. It is too well done and just too much.

You realize nowadays Liam Neeson would just do some karate and kick the crap out of the Nazis to save the people! ;)

I can't put myself through that movie again. Just too much.

The episode of Band of Brothers "Why We Fight" still makes me openly weep each time I see it.

Band of Brothers = Incredible

Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

Schindler's List is probably the only movie to ever be shown on regular network TV without being edited. I think it was NBC who showed it many years ago and not only did they not edit it but they also did it without commercials (I think they did like 2 intermissions for like 5-10 minutes or so). It is a powerful movie. I did a report on Schindler for a class and showed a small bit of the movie. It took me a while to decide what I should show. I had considered the scene near the beginning where he is talking with his wife about what his legacy will be ("Schindler made a lot of money during the war" or something to that effect) and a few other scences. I finally decided on the scene where he is actually making the list itself. A lot of people in class commented on the one line "The children. I want all of them."

On a different topic:

I watched the Documentary on Iron Maiden: Flight 666 about their tour in '08. I respected those guys anyways but to be able to travel like that (40k miles over six weeks on a 757 flown by Bruce Dickinson) and do a full show every other day is pretty amazing! To see how they are received around the world just proves the point that they need to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

If you like rock documentaries with stories from the road I highly recommend it, even if you are not a Maiden fan :)

I might check that out. About the only movie rock docs about bigger bands I've seen are about the Ramones (the movies are okay, nothing great), and the Sex Pistols one called "The Filth And The Fury" which is EXCELLENT.

There have been others here and there, but they have been either too low-budget to get the full history (the dual Runaways movies; thanks, Joan Jett ), or not about anyone really famous (Anvil). Anvil was okay, and all, but you either thought they were a pathetic story or felt really bad for them, depending on the moment.

Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

Watched 2 movies on the flight to Amsterdam, because I was way to ****ing uncomfortable to sleep.

Moneyball: It was good, better than I thought after I first heard of it, but right about what I expected after hearing many good things. Both Brad Pitt and the fat kid from Superbad were good in it. I do love that the end is the A's getting beated by the Twins in the ALDS :D (in probably the last playoff win the Twins have had :( )

Friends with Benefits: It was entertaining enough, and Mila Kunis walks around in bra and panties for a 1/3 of the movie. So I was sold. Also, I feel like I should hate Justin Timberlake on principle, but he really doesn't bother me as an actor. I feel dirty.

JT is one of those people that is forgivable. You want to hate him, you should hate him, but you can't. He's got talent.

Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

Timberlake is awesome, the only people who hate him are the people who can't admit they like him. The guy rocks and is a total dork. And FWB was funny because it pretty much mocked romantic comedies and you got to see Mila Kunis in all her glory :D

Brent,

The guy who made Flight 666 is a hardcore Maiden/heavy metal fan. He has another documentary about the entire genre of heavy metal music where he traveled the world to see it in all its forms. Maiden is notoriously closed off so this doc was kind of a big deal and it gives you a nice snapshot of the tour and of the individuals in the band and how they interact. Plus, you get to hear them tear through some old school tunes they hadnt played in decades. It isnt like the Anvil story, this movie is a total celebration.

Speaking of the Anvil movie, every time I think of it I always wonder why if all of these guys today loved Anvil they have done dick to help them out. All it would take was opening for some mid level heavy metal band on a European leg of a tour and that would change all of their lives, yet no one ever does it. Seems odd to me.

Wait, did I miss the good parts because the were cut from the version available on the plane? No boobs in the one I saw. I may have to re-watch.
