New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

Well...just got back from Red Tails. It had so much potential. But then George Lucas got involved. I should have known better. Decent action scenes, terrible dialouge and acting and full of cliches.
I bet it was better as its 1995 release when it was just called the Tuskeegee Airmen. In that one, John Lithgow played the racist southern senator, and Laurence Fishburn was the steadfast squadron leader pilot, and without having seen Redtails, I bet the 1995 movie got a lot more into the psychology of the pilots and their struggles.

Well, sh*. I have another movie to add to my queue. I liked the premise of Red Tails, saw the trailer, and said to myself: "This looks like sh*."

Red Tails could have been awesome. They ruined it. Blagh.

<strike>I didn't realize that it was originally released by PBS. I remember seeing it for the first time on HBO while home from college one weekend.</strike>

Never mind, someone put the PBS documentary's cover up for the HBO movie.

One of those cases where the true story is just too important and too moving for the trivialization of Hollywood.

If I could have one movie wish it would be that no studio ever tries to make "the definitive 9/11 movie." That would be grounds for calling in air strikes on all of Southern California.

Write a book; make a documentary; write a song. But don't make a blockbuster about anything important. It cheapens it.

Finally got around to seeing Captain America last night...

Am I the only one that thought it was absolutely atrocious?

Yep, you are. It was great. I've never enjoyed a comic book movie (well, other than Watchmen, which was really an art movie) anywhere near as much.

I think it's the only movie both Brenthoven and I like.

Um, never saw it. Have no interest in seeing it. :)

Edit: either of those movies

Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

I know there was a movie we both liked, though. Not sure what it was. It must be terrible. :)

Maybe some older one? Was it that Clark Gable one that was mentioned a while back? Or Amadeus?

I fell asleep during it.

Watched Limitless last night. I actually enjoyed it for the most part, but was miffed by the happy ending that required a few plot holes to be accomplished in the first place.

Well, yeah. I enjoyed the movie, though. It'd be awesome to have all that knowledge.

Limitless was much better than I thought it would be, I enjoyed that one.

I'm bored with this football game, so I'm going to give Lawrence of Arabia a try. I have it from Netflix and haven't seen it before. It says its 4 hours long...holy hell that is a long movie.

Yes, it's a very long movie. If it's good, I don't mind a long movie, though. I mean, "Das Boot" is something like 4 hours long, and "Red Cliff" (John Woo) is almost 5 hours long if you get the full international version. Even the full Swedish versions of "The Girl..." are 3 hours apiece.

I'm 30 minutes in and my god, what a useless, ugly, desolate place that is.

Which Red Cliff version? The only ones available on Netflix are 148 minutes long, the one you mention doesn't appear to be there.

Really? I own the super long version, you can borrow it. It's awesome. I honestly rank it #2 behind Amadeus for best movie ever.

Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

Gran Turino, even the cut version, is an awesome movie.

Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

Just finished the movie, it was good, probably not as good as I expected but that is due to having very high expectations. I didn't like that the story was about helping the arabs (which I knew going into it), but it was obvious that they were about as worthless back then as they are now.
