New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

"Man Walks On Moon" moment:

Finally saw Inception. Incredible movie, but I really didn't find it that hard to follow like everyone said it was. Maybe I paid extra attention since I knew about the complexities beforehand, but I think I understood the concept and all the "rules" pretty well.

The first time, I had little knowledge. In your argument, you have a point. The nuances are what require repeat viewing. I find that a sign of a good movie.

Make-up for movies can take up to 6 hours.

I think it's the same reason every top-40 group since 1993 sounds like crap live.

Dang it, I was going to make a Milli Vanilli joke about how they sounded just like they did on tape live, but their careers were dead before 1993.

I didn't have trouble with the plotline the first time through, but there are an awful lot of wonderful details that are only significant in retrospect. It's a beautifully-written movie, which is no surprise for Nolan (Following, Memento).

Said by my 7 year-old while watching 2012: "This scene doesn't matter, the main characters always survive". :)

Question to others with Netflix: I am currently not signed up for Netflix streaming, but I am signed up for the DVD service. Starting next week I will be traveling for 3 straight weeks, and I would like to get streaming Netflix when I'm on the road. I am assuming that it isn't a problem to turn it on for a month, and then discontinue it again. Does anyone else have experience with this?

No experience, but I am pretty sure it is just one click on the web site to add or subtract. I have it the opposite way (streaming but no DVDs) and it seems 1 click easy to add DVDs.

I did it for a little bit last year. It's easy as logging on your account and paying for online access. When you're done traveling go to the same place and unclick it. Just make sure you do it before the next billing period starts (duh).

The Debt:

Helen Mirren? Meh. Jessica Chastain as the younger Mirren character? Awesome. Mirren was just the name on the box. Chastain was the cereal IN the box.

Helluva movie, if you ask me.

Went and saw Joyful Noise tonight with the girlfriend. Decent enough flick. Lot of sweetness to it, some sad parts, and some spots in it that were downright funny as hell. Like the "Morning After" with Earla and Mr. Hsu. :D

Count that as a movie in my "no how, no way" category.

This. It's possible they could make a less interesting-looking movie -- Knocked Up 2: The Miscarriage, say. But it's not a sure thing.

Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

Yeah, that's a pretty quotable flick.

"What's with you today?"
"What's with today today?"

Crackpot adolescent philosophy at its finest.

The Crimson Rivers

It's a French movie, but hold on: it has BOTH Jean Reno AND Vincent Cassel (latter in one of the Ocean's movies, and Black Swan). That caught my attention. First, the bad: the Netflix streaming is overdubbed. Horribly. I mean, the dialogue is fine, but the whatever *ing accents and tone sucks arse.

The good? Great story, lots of twists and speculation; every time you think you have it pegged, something slightly changes your perception. If you can get the subtitled version (prob only DVD) do it. If you can only get the dubbed version, clench your teeth and bear it.

Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

Finally saw Mulholland Drive. I'm glad I read the reviews of it here, first, because the pace (slooooooooooooooow) and the pretension (hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh) were not a surprise. Going in with that in mind, it has some good parts and some humor. B overall, A for cinematics because, sheesh, even when Lynch is at his most insufferable, he still knows how to plan a shot.

Well...just got back from Red Tails. It had so much potential. But then George Lucas got involved. I should have known better. Decent action scenes, terrible dialouge and acting and full of cliches.
