Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

So has anyone seen/hated/liked:

- A-Team
- Knight and Day
- Shrek Forever
- Toy Story 3

I think I saw 1 post on TS3, but that was it.

I think Despicable Me looks like it could be good. But maybe thats because I laugh every time I see the trailer where the little girl says "it's soooo fluffy!" in a grunty voice. :D

A-Team was pretty decent. I don't remember much of the TV show, but I thought it was worth watching.

Shrek Forever--was kinda lame

Knight and Day--better than I thought it would be

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

I liked TS3 a lot (Saw it in IMax 3D). Thought it was really well done...
I saw 1 and 2 a long time ago, and honestly don't remember them that much, but still dug it..

hoping to see A-Team sometime soon, but it might be gone before we get to it... I loved the TV show growing up, and even the re-runs when I was a little older. I've heard pretty good things about it..

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

I've been wondering about that one. It keeps getting suggested to me by Netflix, due to my run on Kurosawa movies.

I'll add it to the list. Thanks!

95% of the footage was reused for the American release, with the Raymond Burr framing story added (to make it even more a political allegory). Of the Netflix streaming of the two versions, Gojira has a much cleaner soundtrack, probably because the dubbing layer was never added.

I've never seen the original American release in its entirety. :o

It was one of the reasons I joined Netflix, was because of the ease of getting old movies. I figure I would be more apt to want to watch them as part of a plan, rather than pay $5-6 per movie to rent.

Because Twilight has made it look cool by comparison:

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Did they really have to stretch it out to two parts just to milk people twice?
The directors/producers decided that there just wasn't enough fluff to cut from the book as they had been able to do for the past 4 movies to make it into a single film. There was no B story in the book, unlike the first 6 books.

At least that's the line they're using. Having read all the books, I can see a kernel of truth to that. given what we've seen from the movies thus far, if you've watched them, I bet they've cut out a few characters that have been cut from some of the various prior movies. Dobby comes to mind first. They'll figure out a way to write him out - high CGI costs.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Unless there's something I'm missing, I can already see at least one relatively major event from the book that's been changed in the trailer. Looks like they've got Ron killing Naigini

{sigh}

I was really hoping that was going to be good. :(

It looked interesting.

But any hope that there was of this being any good was shattered with Shyamalan took over the screenplay duties.

You know the Shyamalan Curse: great filmmaker, terrible writer.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

It seems there's been 4 movies with similar styles out/soon too be out the past several months. Titans, some kid's name in the title and the one with the guy from Brokeback Mountain come to mind.

Percey Jackson...a very successful series of books that I never cared to read just like Harry Potter :)

Prince of Persia was based on a video game...that should have been reason enough for people not to go :p

Same, until I saw it was Shamalongadingdong involved and realized that it couldn't possibly be good. I've hated every movie that he's done. (Yes the 6th sense as well)

Mister Frost. Jeff Goldblum plays the Devil if the Devil had just watched a Jeff Goldblum marathon. OK, though -- how many movies examine theodicy seriously?
