Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Just saw the 1925 silent The Lost World. Fantastic, and I particularly enjoyed that the introduction was delivered by Arthur Conan Doyle himself.

Evidently, a man died while watching Eclipse this weekend.

AVClub.com did a good job exhausting all the jokes that come to mind within 15 seconds of reading that last sentence. In summary: was it the ****ty movie that killed him, or the fact that being a guy watching Eclipse made him lose his will to live?
It took me until the end of reading that post to even know what movie you were talking about. I actually feel a bit of pride on that account.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Watched 7 Poiunds. I enjoyed it to the extent one could enjoy it. But then again, I like most of the will smith movies.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

That can't possibly be true.

A man was watching Eclipse?

I went to it when the movie I wanted to see was sold out. All I remember is the "Please god no!" that went through my head when it was looking like the girl and t he vampire guy were going to have sex.

P.S. If I see the burger king Jacob vs Edward commercial again I might shoot myself. When I saw it 3 times in one commercial brake I lost all will to live.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

I watched State of Play...the movie was ok until the end where they tried to be too creative for no reason...ruined the movie.

Also watched Reality Bites which I enjoyed for the most part until, oddly enough the end as well. The happy ending was stupid in context of the flick but didn't outright ruin it.

District 9. If spread across an entire sports year, this would surely win the most improved player award.

Started off as a mediocre (at best) preachy film and ended as a kick-*** action film. Pretty good overall.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Moon. I saw a trailer for it and noticed it on Netflix streaming.

Totally worth the watch. Although, and this might not be a good thing, my favorite character was gerty.

I have it on my list, thanks to a recommendation. Heard it's weird, but good and intriguing.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

It's a tad weird, but no more weird than any star trek or other sci-fi movie.

And I'm not normally into sci-fi. :o

To me, weird is Chuck Pahlanik (sp?) movies, or maybe even some Christopher Nolan movies (as in characters, or the way the story is told, instead of the actual plot being weird).

Moon's plot is, in this case, weird, from what I've heard, or in other words, weird even by my definition.

Hmm... Well, I guess when it comes to sci-fi I don't consider very many movies weird. Eh. If you don't like the movie i'll give you a full refund :D Certain restrictions apply. Not available in all areas. See website for terms and conditions.

I mean, you can put the Matrix trilogy, Star Wars, and some of the newer Star Treks in there, but that's about it. I don't go out of my way to watch Sci Fi, and even with (for example) the Matrix, I didn't consider it Sci-Fi, it was more psychological mindbender, if you get what I'm saying (non-traditional outerspace/whatever usual subject matter).

Philip K. Dick novels are VERY weird, though the movie adaptations so far have been almost all watered down and/or sanitized for your protection. The exception is Scanner Darkly, which filmed pretty much exactly as bizarre as it reads.

It would be great if someday somebody new and unsullied took a stab at The Man in the High Castle, but we'd probably wind up with at best Bladerunner (very cool but nothing to do with the original) or Minority Report (big budget, name talent, dull as dishwater).

You know what's weird? The Wizard of Oz. There's no way to really capture how much of a mindbender it was with 70 years of familiarity, but it still has my vote for the most ground-breakingly weird movie of all time.

Whatever do you mean?;)

Ok, there's this girl who is getting harassed by some old hag who takes her dog. So the girl gets all sad and locks herself in her room. Then some tornado hits, and takes the girl and her house into the sky.

Then the girl and her house crush a witch in a land of midgets, and to get home they have to follow the only road in the whole land and see a wizard that no one's ever seen. Oh yeah, there's a talking lion, scarecrow, and a guy made of metal. And some flying monkeys.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

One of the guys on the morning sports talk radio show in this area reviews new releases every Friday. This week was "Predators". He liked it, but the show's discussion of the original lead to this sound byte (paraphrased): "If Carl Weathers was in the volleyball scene in Top Gun, he'd be in the top 3 unintentionally gay movie scenes of all time." And, if you listen to the audio of his first scene in "Predator", you'd realize it's true (the other scene is the "running on the beach" scene in "Rocky 3").

I don't think that's a bad thing at all. He's (it's?) a developed, complex character in the story. And really, it's not like you have a lot to pick from.

And Brent, The Matrix is totally sci-fi.

I'm planning on seeing it tonight. Even if it wasn't getting decent to good reviews, it couldn't possibly be worse than the AVP movies. (Second one was a lot better but still pretty bad.)

RT currently has it sitting at 71%
