New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

I'm planning on seeing it tonight. Even if it wasn't getting decent to good reviews, it couldn't possibly be worse than the AVP movies. (Second one was a lot better but still pretty bad.)

RT currently has it sitting at 71%

The review I heard this morning was set to music, and consisted of lyrics like "This movie ruled, LeBron really sucks!" in various forms for about a minute.

So, apparently "Predators" is way better than "The Decision".

71%...that is shocking!

Oh and the entirety of Rocky III is the most unintentionally gay movie of all time. "Ding Ding!" :D

71% ?!?! Holy ******. This kind of movie must be incredible to garner that kind of reaction from those snobs at RT.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Well it is key to check who is reviewing it and why. (seeing as RT is just a listing of all the reviews in various medias) A lot of times, even the most well known of them (i.e. highest snobs) will surprise with a good review on something. (unlike say Colvert at the Strib who tends to give good reviews to, well, 75% of the stuff he watches :p )

I remember being shocked Rocky Balboa was getting good reviews on RT but this is way different. A sci-fi sequel, even with a decent cast should be, at best, hovering around 50% if I had to hazard a guess. It has higher than that in its "Top Reviewers" section

BTW Colvert liked it...SHOCKED! ;)

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

I guess I'm like COlvert (never read his reviews). I like most movies I watch. Unlike a LOT of people, I can suspend my disbelief for two hours to watch something.

Even if it's sh*tty, I can enjoy the awesomeness of being terrible. US Seals 2 is a perfect example. It's the only movie I have EVER seen where it received a standing ovation from an entire room at the climax of the "final battle"

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

It depends on the movie...chances are if I am paying money to watch a serious movie I don't want it to suck. If I am at home and see some horribly titled movie or another sequel to Starship Troopers, then I am going to love every minute of how horrible the movie is :p

Hell I love Howard the Duck and still watch it whenever it is on! :D

Oh man, I love Howard the Duck. Awesome movie.

But if I was paying to see it at a theater, not so much. I'm with you on this one.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

I'm sorry, I have a hard time believing we live in a world where "Howard the Duck" is ever on TV.

Tim Robbins is in it...I am guessing some networks end up showing it to knock him down a peg ;)

Oh and Lea Thompson...who is not only hot but from Minnesota :D

I remember watching this on video when I was in college, and in an "altered state". Probably the dumbest, funniest movie I had seen in some time. Not sure if I'd buy a DVD of it, but I would probably tune in if it showed up on Encore. Then again, one of my favorite "guilty pleasures" is watching watching a DVD of Season 1 of "The Simple Life" with some decent scotch. :o

Yeah, I would never buy the dvd but I watched it last year when it was in the On Demand list for comcast.

The Simple Life?

Yeah, Nicole Ritchie and Paris Hilton play perfect idiots as they screw up those poor peoples' lives. :o :D

oh crap... that show?! :D

I'll admit to watching the first season. I have my own guilty pleasure TV shows. I'm not ballsy enough to share them though.

Yeah, well mine is Vampire Diaries. I defy you to name a worse one.

(In my defense I have two teen daughters. But even so.)

I think my only guilty TV pleasure is "Wings" (terrible show, though it did give Tony Shalhoub his start).

How about Hannah Montana? Or any other show aimed at pre-teen girls? I'd imagine most guys would have to be threatened with genital distress to admit to watching something like that.

Yeah, mine isn't as bad as hannah montana. But I'll definitely have to be threatened with violence before I give it up.

It's on at my house all the time but I can honestly say I've never watched it more than 30s at a time.
