New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Nah, I like a lot* of those movies, to be honest. I just thought "The Road" was a smugness brick thrown repeatedly against the audience's head (I wanted the kid dead from the second reel on, just to end it).

* from this list, I only hate 5 (Bonni and Clyde, E.T., Fantasia, Midnight Cowboy, and Nashville). Not nearly as contrary as I wish. :D

Bonnie and Clyde is awesome. One of the best ever.

Henry Rollins: Shock And Awe: The Tour

Hilarious. I remember hearing some of his spoken word stuff years ago, and thankfully found Netflix's stash of it.

The best way I can put it? He's a poor man's Lewis Black (which isn't a bad thing at all). On this disc, his Shatner story had me just about in tears, I was laughing so hard. Same with his USO Show story.

He covers everything from life in LA to politics to random tidbits/experiences in his life, and I highly recommend it.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

For what they were intended to be, 2 was a bit of a step down but I liked the 3rd quite a bit.

I believe you have that backwards. 2, while not 1, was still close and still had the full cast. 3 was a crappy Stifler-fest.

Correct. Unfortunately I saw 3 in the theaters. I chose poorly.

As for tonight:

Traitor:

Great story, good action. Any twists in the story were meh, but how they affected the story was good (in other words, you could figure out what the twists were beforehand, but maybe not the end results).

A lot of concentration on an individual's convictions to a belief (whether it be religion or government or whatever) and really touched on how they bend, depending on the situation. I really loved that about this movie.

Now, Don Cheadle may be the name star of the movie, but I think the guy who plays Omar is the real star of the story. Excellent job, excellent character in the story. I think that was the real meat of the plot, is how he acts/reacts/etc.

Definitely recommend this one.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

They got better every movie. AW > AP2 > AP. But that's just relative ranking. They were all great.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Ok, you're definitely not right in the head. And not in the good way.

Meh. I don't need people to validate my taste in movies. Unlike some people on this board, I allow myself to actually like movies that aren't intended to be thoughtful :p

Hey, I wanted to like 3, but it was so putrid I couldn't stand it. I even tried to rationalize the movie, and I couldn't.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

I honestly don't know what there was not to like...

Tired jokes from the first two movies, the characters became uber-caricatures of themselves (which helps a movie become DOA), nothing creative about anything.

The first one, a classic coming of age type movie that is modernized. AP2, a standard sequel that isn't as good as the orig, as expected, but still decent, and you hope that they go no further.

Watching War of the Worlds...

This movie terrifies me for some reason.

Along with the caricatures, way too much Stifler. It was a funny character in small does like in the first one, where he's only there for little bits. But when he's one of the main two/three characters, it just gets run into the ground. But I guess that's the problem you run into when even Tara Reid wants nothing to do with your movie.
