Re: new/rented movies: DEVASTATOR!!!!!

Totally agreed on Baby Face (I think I even specifically mentioned that role), and I loved Public Enemies. It was just Hoover that drove me nuts. ;)

You let him bother you too much then, his role wasn't big enough to get annoyed by I thought.

Probably. At first, when the hearing scene started for a bigger budget, I was looking forward to it, to see how it developed/related/etc into the story. Then he starting "acting" (heavy on the quotes) and it just ruined the scene for me. After that, the movie was as follows:

kick arse
kick arse
screeching halt Hoover line or two
kick arse
kick arse
kick arse
crap, here's Hoover again
kick arse...
(repeat)
end of movie.

:p

All of Mann's movies are like that though. Even "Heat" - just that in his downtimes in "Heat" there was swearing and/or banging.

Re: new/rented movies: DEVASTATOR!!!!!

Never read the XMen comics or watched any of the movies until the other night the first Xmen was on HBO and watched the last hour or so of it. I liked it as it was Heroeseque and I like that TV show.

Never realized how hot the actresses they got for the series. Famke Janssen, Halle Berry, the chick that plays Mystique (her name escapes me), and Kelly Hu. VERY NICE!

Just watched X2 last night and enjoyed it as well. A little predicatable at parts but still some good action.

Probably will be watching X3 in the near future.

What's the deal with the fourth one? Xmen origins? Is that a prequel or what?

That would be Rebecca Romijn(romaine) silly.

Yes it tells the story of how wolverine came to be basically

Re: new/rented movies: DEVASTATOR!!!!!

Yeah, but it's a novel not an essay. What's wrong with a little bit extra in a novel? I really don't get the complaint to be honest.

I don't agree with it, but I see where it came from.

Re: new/rented movies: DEVASTATOR!!!!!

Much like this thread, the movie I watched tonight involved a sort of resurrection: Kill Bill Vol 1.

Yeah, I know it's old, but I finally was really in the mood to see it, which I'm finding is more common nowadays with me and movies (have to be in the mood for a movie, then be in the certain mood for one of the movies on my "list" to see).

I was planning on watching both volumes back-to-back, but after seeing the first one.....wow. That's a LOT of visual overload. Cinematically I thought it was superb. The different forms (black and white, color, anime, etc) was a bit surprising, as I didn't expect that from Tarantino (reminded me a lot of Natural Born Killers in that aspect, and yes, I know QT wrote the story for NBK, and my reasoning is he later disowned Stone's "version" or film interpretation of it). The dialogue portions did live up to his rep, though, which I liked.

So I only watched the first one. My expectations were more in the homage to the old kung-fu movies, with ridiculous action and overblown fights, etc. I was pleasantly surprised, as there was good substance to the story, and dare I say a certain art quality comparably to the newer kung-fu movies (the snow fight harkened to "House Of Flying Daggers" for example).

Obviously it's tough to top Pulp and Reservoir for QT's best movies, but this comes close. I can't wait to see Vol 2.

Re: new/rented movies: DEVASTATOR!!!!!

The black and white battle in the House of Blue Leaves was actually done to keep the film from having an NC 17 rating, as well as some other cuts of violence. Japanese cut has full color and more some more shots spread throughout.

Here's a link to the color extended version, which was actually part of the original previews for the movie, where The Bride is running up the steps.

Yeah, I read imdb after every movie I see. ;)

Still, that's a lot of visuals to take in, when you're not expecting it. :)

Re: new/rented movies: DEVASTATOR!!!!!

Wait til you meet the martial arts master in Vol. 2. Vol. 2 drags a little bit, but everything involving him f-cking owns.

QT movies don't drag, from what I've seen. I love 'em all. Gimme dialogue and substance over action any day.;)

Example: "Bringing Out The Dead" (Scorcese) GREAT movie. And there is less action there than in Dude Love's bedroom. It's ALL dialogue. :D

The fight with Darryl Hannah in Vol. 2 also owns.

OK maybe I need to watch them all again. What annoys me greatly is that Tarantino promised that there would eventually be a complete, united cut of the Kill Bill films and, well, that sh-t ain't happened yet. Granted, that'd be one long friggin' movie but still.

He also wanted "The Vega Brothers." Just sayin'. :(
