New Poll Predictions for 11/30

Re: New Poll Predictions for 11/30

It's not just him in this campaign. It's also people affiliated directly with the school.
Mr Jaslow, you are a grown man, he doesn't shave yet. Your response to him was unprofessional, at best. (Remember you do have a different status at USCHO than most of us do.)
How many "people affiliated directly with the school" are you talking about?

Nothing surprises me..I had one of the "professional" writers on this board give me negative rep for saying that one of his colleagues "was knowledgable about DivIII hockey". His comment was "absolutely not true". They don't even support each other, so to expect them to "stay out of the frey" is probably unreasonable. I feel, in some cases, their only qualification is their large ego. So I am jaded..oh well.

Re: New Poll Predictions for 11/30

No.

What happens if say Oswego suddenly had 10 of their top players injured in practice and out for the season? Would you then say that Oswego is the best team in the country?

When Oswego played Plattsburgh, they were better than Plattsburgh ON THE SCOREBOARD. But what many voters are saying is right now at this time, Plattsburgh is the better team. In other words, what they are saying is if these two teams met tomorrow, they believe Plattsburgh would win.

I don't understand why people cannot understand that concept when some voters cast their ballots.

BTW, for all those folks arguing with me, did you miss the part where I said I picked Oswego #1?

Fixed your post Russ....

BTW...I am all for giving Oswego #1...I'm sure they will easily give it up sooner or later...or just lose again at home in a few weeks...

BTW #2....Got my tickets in my hand :)

Hell, their starting goaltender and one of their top D-men have gone down and they're still rolling. So, to answer your question...maybe.

Re: New Poll Predictions for 11/30

Ironically this "meaningless poll" of coaches and writers does more to reflect the best in DIII than the shady methodology employed by the NCAA in their ranking process.
"Must spread rep around..."

All I have to say is I am going to have one heck of a birthday weekend January 8th and 9th.

Heck, Utica folks are trying hard to kick me off. Seriously.
Count me in on the "Impeach Russell Jaslow" platform.

Most certainly in my case.
I can attest to this. When taking a road trip Webb's ego powered the car to the equivalent of 113 MPG. There has been some interest in capturing it to make cheap alternative energy, but the big corporate fat cats have kept it down in fears it will sink the growing hybrid market. Plus the grant money that would be needed to put the technology in place to capture it would make the stimulus bill look like a drop in the bucket.

Inflating his ego? Well that's chump change.

I will never accept someone implying that an institution of higher learning promotes anti-American behavior based on lies, rumors, and untruths.

What he wrote was:

- xenophobic
- libelous
- defamatory

He opens himself and USCHO to legal action. And apparently needs an anonymous skirt to hide under.

Oh, and you seem to think I care about my status at USCHO.

How many "people affiliated directly with the school" are you talking about?

You!

Re: New Poll Predictions for 11/30

Just glancing through some previous posts I saw some back and forth on the 1-2 (or should I say 1-1) Oswego-Plattsburgh tie atop the poll. This may be throwing some fuel into a fire but aside the argument of why it is the way it is, more importantly...I would say is...why does Plattsburgh have more first place votes then Oswego?

Plattsburg has played
Oswego (1) – Oswego was I think 5 or 6 that week Oz defeated them in Plattsburgh?
Middlebury (8) – Platty beats Middlebury
Norwich (5) – Platty ties Norwich

Oswego has played
Elmira (6) x2 – Oswego wins one at home easy and loses a close on the road.
Plattsburgh (2) – Oswego defeats Platty (see above)

How would it then be that Oswego gets less first place votes then Platty?

Oh...who cares I guess
I like this logic - really do.
Remaining games vs currently ranked teams:
Oswego: Plattsburgh, Adrian
Plattsburgh: @Oswego, @Norwich

Oh and what about these guys?
Salem St.
St. Norbert (3) win on the road 3-0
St. Scholastica (6) lost in their barn in OT.
Remaining games against ranked teams -- @NEC(rv)

What we have here is BCS. If the pollsters perceive you as a hot thit team at the start of the season, you stay a hot thit team until you thit the bed. But if you are perceived to be a thit team, tough thit.

If you think this is a case to get SSC in the top 15, no it is not. I can use figgers and logik to make team in the current poll look good. Stout had a bad weekend (well, a REALLY bad weekend) while Salem had a pretty good one. As others have have pointed out, all this poll does is say "What have you done for me lately".

The only poll that counts is the one that is released by the NCAA on 3/7/10 showing the top 11 - which gives me a name for the D3 championship. Off to that thread.....:)

You're spot on with that analysis. I hear that Potsdam has already retained a NYC law firm and Canada is considering breaking off diplomatic relations with the US.

This is why I put out my computer rankings. I try to include in it factors that are reflected in the NCAA process. Teams should be ranked on the basis of what they have done, not on the basis of who they are, or how they were perceived last week. Salem State should be ranked - #1, probably not, but it would seem that the main reason they aren't ranked is because they didn't get votes last week, which was because they hadn't played many games and didn't have the rep to get votes based on a slim schedule unlike NU. The wise crack that RIT gets votes in the poll (not true, of course) points out how some of the voters rely on ancient history to make their decisions. At least look inside the numbers to make the choices.

It is fortunate that these polls are only for discussion purposes, unlike CFB, where the polls determine who plays in the NC game. (The role of the computer rankings and other objective criteria was reduced every time the NC game didn't reflect what the pollsters wanted.)

They'll probably just rub in the fact that they claim to have won the War of 1812 (like my Canadian friends always do to me).

" rub in the fact that they claim to have won the War of 1812" actually what we do is rub in the fact that we won the War of 1812 rubbing in the fact that we claim to have is nonsensical. As to your Canadian friends...I doubt it. We are very selective. ;) :D
