Saturday, December 3:
St. Scholastica at Marian NH 1:00 pm CT
Finlandia at Lake Forest NH 2:00 pm CT
Wis-Superior at Wis-River Falls NH 2:05 pm CT
Adrian at Wis-Eau Claire NH 7:00 pm CT
St. Norbert at Wis-Stevens Pt. NH 7:00 pm CT

Pretty big weekend in the NCHA. I'm guessing most eyes will be on River Falls were the preseason #1 and #2 go at it. Superior scheduled a 3 week break between their last game and this one...so i'm guessing they will come in well rested and well prepared. If Superior's top line can get some scoring assistance from the other lines they have a shot, I say they split. Superior wins Friday, River Falls wins Saturday. I just have to remember to leave happy hour early enough to get home and watch it online :P The rest of the series should be sweeps IMHO. Lake Forest over Finlandia, CSS over Marian, SNC over UWSP, Adrian over Eau Claire...unless Adrian is tired from traveling a million miles in the past month or so.

Re: Ncha 11-12

Well SNC is clearly entrenched in their sophomore slump...
Actually the Lady Knights are only slightly behind their record, after 10 games, from LY (4-5-1) with their 4 - 6 overall record this season.
To be honest, I expected a bit more from them than their present record at this point in the season.

Both games this weekend between SNC and UWSP were very competitive, fast, physical, and fun to watch. Both teams had chances to score, hitting a few pipes in the process and the goalies each making some key saves. I thought these two teams matched up pretty evenly. It was a couple of nice conference wins for UWSP.

I agree on the two teams and the matchup. But I Don't believe either team enjoyed the officials. lol

Re: Ncha 11-12

I figured it was time to look at how the NCHA shook out in the first half. Here are my preseason predictions...a few surprises in there a few disappointments.

11. Finlandia
10: Marian...
9: Concordia
8: Stevens Point.
7: St Scholastica
6: Lake Forest
5: Eau Claire
4: Adrian
3: Superior
2: St Norbert
1: River Falls

Current Standings

10: Finlandia
10: Marian
9: Eau Claire
8: St. Norbert
6: Adrian
6: Concordia
4: Stevens Point
4: Superior
3: St. Scholastica
2: Lake Forest
1: River Falls

Too be fair these standings are a little skewed as Superior, Stevens Point have each played 8 games, CUW only 7, and St Norbert 9 compared to RF, LFC, and CSS who have all played 10. All of Lake Forest's conference wins have come against Marian, Finlandia, Eau Claire and CUW...They lost both to UWS and have yet to play SNC, RF, UWSP, CSS, and Adrian...meaning they will most likely drop considerably as the season progresses.

I got River Falls first, Superior would be in 3rd if they had their two games in hand and LFC drops so I had those right, IMO.

The biggest surprises to me right now are Adrian/SNC and Stevens Point. Like LFC, the pointers have the meat of their schedule ahead of them...we'll see how they do against Gustavus to open the new year. But maybe some of those girls that left, opened the door for the team to move on and be better??

St Norbert has been a big disappointment for me so far this season. They were 6-6-1 at this point last season and now are 4-8 at the break this year. I really thought they would show improvement from last year to this year and in reality they have gone the other way. Hopefully they will turn it around in the spring.

Eau Claire has been a little disappointing as well. I guess they lost their star player and had no one to turn to coming into this year. With only 2 wins on the season to this point, it is going to be another rough year for the Blugolds.

After getting their behinds whooped by RIT, I assume that the Adrian Bulldogs will finish the season 10-0, potentially throwing them into the top 3 in the league. They had a brutal first half, but have an easy coast to the finish line. I'm wondering if the rumor about Michelin wanting to leave is true...i'm sure there is a nice cozy apt available for her in Superior!

Anyways, those are my thoughts on the year so far....have at it, if you wish.

By the way the season is going i would not be surprised if she transfers... that is what i am hearing. Not trying to start things, just what i am hearing!

I do find all of the "the way this year is going" comments on Adrian to be kind of funny. The players and parents forced the old coach out and now are unhappy that things aren't all sunshine and lollipops now with the new coach. Did they expect this guy to come in and for them to go 32-0?

She was pulled after the first period in the first game and didn't dress for the second game. If Michelin wasn't thinking about transferring, she probably is now.
Overall, I'm still not impressed with Adrian. The second goalie played really well and kept the score respectable.

Michelin was ran by an RIT player and was injured, she was not pulled or not dressed because of a coaching decision, it was due to injury.

The way this year is going on my part was specifically for how the season is going for Michelin, not the team in general. Last year she played in nearly every game, this season she has played in about half. The team might not have as good of a record this year, but they actually look like they have systems in place, a drastic improvement.

With all teams returning to action this weekend, its going to be an exciting run to the finish line.

Here is this weeks lineup of games. Probably the most intersting series is St Norbert @ Superior. The Knights have definitely not lived up to their expectations this season and will be looking for a big win or two against UWS to get on the right track. The Yellowjackets have not played a game in over a month...so will they be rusty???

The rest of the games seem to be fairly one sided. The pointers should sweep finlandia, River Falls should sweep Lake Forest,Adrian should sweep Concordia, CSS should sweep Augsburg....Can Marian finally pick up a point in eau Claire??? I doubt it :(

Re: Ncha 11-12

With this weekends sweep of the Pointers UWS has moved up to 2nd in the NCHA standings.

With this weekend's results and looking at the remaining schedule, I think it is safe to say that River Falls has locked up first place in the NCHA. Superior has played 2 less games than the Falcons but are 6 points back, meaning River Falls would have to lose a game in order for Superior to tie them and get into the mess of NCHA tie breakers which I'm sure would still have River Falls coming out on top. Anyways I don't see them losing any of their remaining conference games...Concordia-WI and Finlandia.

Better knock on wood when you say that, gojackets... Considering the number of goals given up to Marian (regardless of goalie) and the tie given up to UWEC (where did that come from?), a loss to Concordia (OK not very likely, given that it looks like they will join Finlandia and Marian sitting at home during the playoffs after this weeks loss and tie to UWEC) takes the tie breaker down to net goals in conference which Superior could close given the teams remaining on their schedule. And it only takes one bad day in goal for RF to give up those 2 points.

Getting back to Concordia, they've either got to finish in front of SNC or UWEC to get to the dance. They have 1 point on SNC today, but SNC has weekends with Marian and Finlandia to cover even if Concordia defeats them in their 1 remaining game. Meanwhile UWEC still has 2 games with Finlandia after 2 with Superior to add to their 2 point lead plus head-to-head tie-breaker over Concordia. Concordia has 2 with RF, 1 with SNC, 2 with CSS, and 2 with UWSP to try to get what will probably be the 7 points necessary to pass UWEC in the standings. That will take some doing.

Actually taking a deeper look...if River Falls were to lose a game and Superior win out...it would go to the 4th tie breaker.
TIE-BREAK PROCEDURE
If two or more teams are tied in points at the end of the regular season, ties shall be broken as follows:
1 - Head-to-Head competition
2 - Most NCHA wins
3 - Goal differential in games played between the tied teams only
4 - Goal differential in all NCHA games
5 - Coin flip by Commissioner

Currently River Falls holds a 35-26 advantage in NCHA game goal differential. I don't see this changing as Superior has a tougher schedule going forward. So ya...River Falls wins the NCHA again.

http://www.nchahockey.org/sports/wice/2011-12/articles/jan25_comparison
According to this...Lake Forest has the toughest schedule going forward...so they could continue to drop in the standings. SNC has the 2nd easiest schedule going forward, so I see them slipping into the playoffs as the 7 or 8 seed.

I started that other post awhile ago and my battery died before i could post it...so i figured...just do it now..lol I'm guessing that Kuechle played her last game in goal last night for the season, and maybe for good as a Falcon after that performance last night. She was in net for the tie to Eau Claire and had to be replaced to ensure the win for the Falcons...and Deardorff gave up a goal anyway...i'm sure she wasn't really mentally prepared to play on a night off. Given that River Falls still has Finlandia yet to play, who i'm guessing they will but up 6-0 scores at minimum...i'm guessing they will still hold the edge in goal differential. On the other hand, Superior has two more games to play and could close the gap with convincing wins over Eau Claire next weekend.

If CSS were to sweep St Norbert this weekend, they would be in a tie for 2nd with Superior...so don't count them out just yet...thats going to be a pretty important rivalry series coming up the last weekend of the season.

I do agree with you that when it all shakes out, Concordia will be joining Finlandia and Marian with the early end to the season. I barely see them winning one of their remaining games at this point in time.

I'm just hoping that if it ends 1. River Falls, 2. Superior that it ends 7. Eau Claire, 8. St Norbert. SNC has definitely underachieved so far this season and could make some waves in the playoffs. Looking at the standings even at this point, St Norbert could realistically finish anywhere from 4-8 still...with the easy schedule they have remaining.

Re: Ncha 11-12

So looking at the standings, I figured I'd make a crazy final standings possibility.

One possible Scenario(however incredibly unlikely...this did not take as long to figure out as one might think.

1. Superior (wins out)
2. River Falls (loses 1 to Finlandia and loses tiebreaker to Sup.)
3. SNC(wins out) 24pts
4. CSS( beats LF, loses to CUW and Sup) 23 pts
5. LFC( loses to CSS, loses and ties SP, loses to Adrian) 23 pts
6. Adrian(beats SP, loses both to marian, beats LF) 22 pts
7. UWSP (loses to Adrian, 3pts from LFC, swept by CUW) 22pts
8. CUW(swept by River Falls, loses the SNC, sweeps CSS an SP) 19 pts

Eau Claire, marian and Findlandia stay home.

After this weekend, SNC should win out easily. Giving them 22 pts if they lose tomorrow or 24 if they win. If they complete the sweep tomorrow, there is a very possible scenario that puts SNC in fourth.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say

1. River Falls
2. Superior
3. Adrian
4. SNC
5. CSS
6. UWSP
7. Lake Forest
8. Eau Claire

Big weekend in the NCHA for a lot of teams

Superior sweeps Marian easily, As does Norberts over Finlandia.

Concordia needs to get some points this weekend to keep their playoff hopes alive, but despite River Falls recent "struggles" I can't see them losing a game here...So River Falls wins both.

Adrian and Stevens Point are kind at that juncture now of where do they go...neither team can afford to lose more games as they jockey for play off positioning and the right to host the first round...I think we get a split here...Stevens Point wins Saturday, Adrian Sunday

Same situation here for CSS and Lake Forest. Both of these teams have a lot of room to drop if they can't keep winning. I look for a split here as well...but would like to see CSS sweep

Re: Ncha 11-12

It looks like River Falls can clinch the NCHA title tonight with a win over Finlandia...shouldn't be too hard for them.
