Ncha 11-12

Re: Ncha 11-12

I would have to go with N Waidacher, D Schultz and K Batters although they could put Schulz on all rookie team and put the other Waidacher sister in.(not sure if they take that into consideration)
On defence I would go with Graham and Kaskiw from UWS. In net Peters leads in conference and is highest ranking NCHA goalie in d3 hockey so would give it to Peters and then Deardorff although Aluia has also had a good year .

You also have to remember that it is based only on stats of in conference play. I would agree with your 3 forwards. The two Waidacher's lead the conference in scoring, Nina with 36 points and Monika with 28. Batters and Schulz both had 24 I believe.

I doubt both defensemen would be from UWS.

The fact that Marvin hit 100 career, while a great accomplishment, doesn't have any impact on this voting, solely has to do with performance in conference this season.

Re: Ncha 11-12

Might as well discuss the playoffs

Playoff matchups are
#8 UWEC @ #1 UWRF
#7 St Norbert @ #2 Superior
#6 UWSP @ #3 Adrian
#5 CSS @ #4 Lake Forest

UWEC @ UWRF
Eau Claire did tie River Falls earlier this season. River Falls has slumped over the past few weeks, but I think Cranston will whip them into shape and River Falls will sweep this series.

St Norbert @ Superior

These two teams split in Superior earlier. Superior winning 3-1 and SNC winning 1-0. This match-up does scare me a little, but I think Superior will get their act together at the right time and win this series...either sweep or a win and tie.

UWSP @ Adrian
Adrian swept this series on the road earlier in the year..and I see them having little problem sweeping the series again at home.

CSS @ Lake Forest
This is an interesting matchup. I think CSS is the better team, having watched them last weekend. I think we see a mini game here, with Scholastica coming out on top.

With regards to the UWS vs SNC series, it seems that all of Superior's losses until the last game were low scoring affairs where their offense didn't show up (2 or fewer goals scored by UWS). And even the last game it was only 3 goals. It is not that teams jump out to a big lead against UWS and then UWS folds up tent. I think they struggle in close, low scoring games and this could make the series closer than you'd think and the mini-game may just be a test of goalie will (can we set a record for most minutes of hockey in 1 day?). SNC's losses have both close and not-so-close scores. Their goaltending is more the hot/cold which could lead to a quick exit if the goalie is cold or the big upset if the goalie is hot. Of course, spending the past couple weekends cleaning up the creampuffs (Finlandia, Marian, with a bonus Concordia game thrown in) may have set them up for failure considering their last playoff team game was in January.

FYI, 6 forwards, 4 defenceman and 2 goalies will be picked. I believe. Hopefully the coaches just don't go off stats!! Just about every game has mistakes and even gojacket admitted sometimes padding stats goes on. Thats ashame! If you look at the guys you will find out the players with the best stats did not always make the first team. One forward was 11th in points! sadly the coaches only see the opposing team 1 weekend out the the year and they base there pick off that and by what the players coach is telling them, politicking! Enough said! I believe there is to much yellow and black in gojacket and yellowjackets picks! LOL. At forward it should be any of the following Both Waldecher, Schultz, Batters, Mayhew, Marvin, Mcgown, Cranston, Story or Herring. Defence, Graham, Kaskiw, Salis, Chronis, Lane, Haarala, or Olson. Goalie deardorf!! Most games played in top 5 of goaltening. Aluia, because if it was not for her play St. Norberts would not be in the playoffs! Peters had a great year, but had bad games against Hamline and Marion, and faced less shots than Deardorf and Aluia. She faced less shots because of UWS defence! I'm not sure but UWS probably gave up the least amount of shots in the league. I feel sorry for any of these girls that don't make it, first team. I hope they can hang there heads high. Almost forgot Coach of the year Cranston again!!!

I was trying to remember this...I don't think they pick a first and second team anymore, but just pick the all conference team. I was solely basing my picks on who would be first team...I had much less yellow and gold then the other guy ;) I had one forward, 1 of 2 defensemen and mentioned Peters...but said I thought Deardorff would get it.

Going to the 6 forwards...I would say both Waidachers, Schulz, Marvin, McGowan, Batters and Mayhew

Defense Graham, Salis, Kaskiw and Heckendorff(CUW)

Goalies: Deardorff and Aluia

Nina Waidacher probably player of the year...Despite missing 5 games she led the conference in scoring by over 10 points if you take her sister out of the equation...CSS struggled heavily when she was out of the country.

I would have to agree with N. Waidacher, because like you said her team struggled without her. I thought Heckendorf was a forward? We also have to remember that Salis had a very slow start and didn't play well against RF and Superior. And does 1 goal by Kaskiw and 2 by Chronis make them 1st team players? I'm glad you agree with the goalie picks! I didn't see anything on coach of the year? RF has a very good team, but I thought the Yellowjackets had the most talent of any team in the NCHA. River Falls and Adrian are right there, with that being said thats why I give the nod to Cranstan for Coach of the year.

Superior had too many stupid losses and ties for Laughlin to get it. I would expect Cranston, however I actually wouldn't be surprised if it was MacMillan from St Scholastica or even Zaban from Lake Forest as those teams did much better than predicted this season.

I also hope it is not solely based on stats. I have watched too many games this year where the referees simply got the scoring wrong, even to the point of getting the goal scorer wrong. They also seem fairly lazy in trying to figure out who got assists and getting those stats right. I'm sure some coaches are proactive in correcting the stats before they become final, while others don't care too much about what the stats sheets say. I just think there is more to picking an All Conference team than stats on paper.

The several games i've watched, Kaskiw has been 100% hardcore every minute of every game, she is definitely one of the top defensemen in the league...ya she has 1 goal...but she has 18 assists.

The award for Conference Thug would go to Finlandia's Nanci Crosson with 31 penalties for 62 minutes in 22 games this year!

If I was voting, gotta be MacMillan from CSS.

Yes, I think they were picked to finish either 8 or 9 at the start of the season. Finishing in a tie for 4th and being favored(IMO) to win on the road in the first round is a good sign....of course...she did land probably two of the best players in the country(D3) to help her out

Re: Ncha 11-12

As much as i hate to say this...if Lake Forest comes to play the way i saw them play against River Falls they can beat any team in the NCHA conference and should not be taken so lightly. Some teams seem to continuously be underrated.

I don't think you can go soley on stats but goal scoring generally can't be padded assists can at times be phantom. The Waidacher sisters and Dani Schulz with most goals scored, 7 of them game winners, probably belong on the team after that there are a number of players you could choose Batters Marvin and Mayhew others that should be considered. As far as defence goes again I think you On defence I think Graham from UWS is one of the premier dmen both from an offensive standpoint and in the d zone. Logged lots of ice time with the short bench UWS was playing with the last half of the season. Kaskiw should also be in the running with a +20 along with J Daleiden +20 and posssibly Salis who scored quite a few goals but was only a +2. As far as goaltenders go I disagree that Deardorff should be a slam dunk if we look at her, Aluia and Peters they all had a few off games . Deardorff played for the top team in the conference while Aluia played for a less talented team Peters played for a good team that had a lot of trouble scoring goals in the first half of the season. She only allowed 4 goals(94 shots) in the three games vs UWRS an Gustavus both of whom were undefeated up until that point. Deardorff played most minutes but played Marion and Concordia twice and Finlandia once all three of whom missed playoffs. Aluia played UWS,and Adrian tough and won and lost one against Lake Forest so I think I would go with Aluia and Peters. I think its always tough to choose a select number of players and leave others out but I guess thats why we don't make those decisions fun to play around with it though.

Re: Ncha 11-12

wow, i'm surprised by the goalies... i looked up how all the people that you guys were mentioning and those who made the team and i'm, although maybe a little biased, extremely surprised that deardorff didn't get it!

I had thought of adding Zeches to my list so not totally surprised that she got in. Must be tough to make the selections and I guess each of us posting here probably sees certain teams more than others so we probably all have some biases. Do the coaches of all the teams vote on the selections? Nice to see Schulz get player of the year she certainly made an impact as a freshman player that is not often seen. She scored a lot of goals and if you look at UWS record she scored the game winner in almost half of the wins. Should be an interesting weekend of playoffs coming up. Congratulations to all players named.

Re: Ncha 11-12

Wow...I definitely did not see Dani Schulz as player of the year coming...but congrats to her for that!

Was Nina discounted for taking the 5 games off to go play for team Swiss? If so...thats a disgrace.

I'm fairly surprised by Brankin as the goalie...She's 1st in save %, but 7th in win percent and goals against average...and only played in half the conference games.

It gets even more interesting when you look at the games she played

She played 1 game against every conference team except St. Scholastica-didn't play in that series.

She had wins against Marian, Finlandia, CUW, Eau Claire and St Norbert (finished 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 in conference)

Lost to Superior, Adrian and River Falls(was pulled after first period)

Had a no decision in her game against Stevens Point where she gave up 3 goals in the first and was pulled after 1, LFC went on to win.

I'm not trying to be mean...but if she's the second best goalie in the league...we are in trouble.

Weird...when you look at the list on the page linked to it shows this

2012 Women's All-NCHA Team
FORWARDS
Katie Batters, UWRF
Erin Marvin, UWSP
Olivia Rork, ADRIAN
Dani Schultz, UWS
Monika Waidacher, CSS
Nina Waidacher, CSS

DEFENSEMEN
Angie Chronis, LFC
Kaiti Graham, UWS
Lotta Haarala, SNC
Katie Salis, ADRIAN

GOALTENDERS
Jenna Brankin, LFC
Shanley Peters, UWS

But when you look at the actual press release it says Zeches....i'm more okay with that :)

Re: Ncha 11-12

I'm surprised Kim Herring was left off the list. Probably ends her shot at being a finalist for the Hurd Award.

I"m not that surprised...Herring hasn't been the dominating force she was her freshman/sophomore year. I am surprised to see Roark in there, the rest I predicted :)
