Ncha 11-12

Re: Ncha 11-12

Weird...when you look at the list on the page linked to it shows this

But when you look at the actual press release it says Zeches....i'm more okay with that :)
I think it must have been a typo cause Zeches is who is listed on the official pdf file which makes more sense. I saw that too and couldn't figure it out at first.

I must say there are a few surprises, but they all deserved it! And the ones that didn't get picked should hold there heads high! I want to say I've tried to be non-bias in my comments. If i was bias in any way it would have been for the girls from Michigan. I've watched alot of them for many years and it's nice to see them succeed. Rork, Salis, Chronis, and Zeches are all products of Victory Honda AAA Hockey. Then You have Aluia, Mcgown, Graham and Miller all products of Michigan, congrats! There are a lot more in the NCHA also, with talent. Since I am making this my last post, I would like to say to the players that read this gossip to take a look at Graham, Aluia and Zeches none of them had success last year. Graham played some, Aluia hardly played and Zeches is probably still pulling splintters out of her _ss from sitting the last 3 Years!! Hard work does payoff, but BELIEVE in youself! I enjoyed watching NCHA Hockey since Dee Phillips (another Michigan Product) was at UWSP! I will keep watching, but It will be from a farther distance and with no comments coming across USHCO. Good Luck to ALL the teams in the playoffs!

Re: Ncha 11-12

Stevens Point over Adrian 3-0.

Adrian outplayed UWSP for the 1st 2 periods, and UWSP got the better of the action in the 3rd. A bad turnover behind the Adrian net with 15 seconds left in the 1st led to the Pointers' first goal with 12.2 left, and then Stevens Point got two power play goals in the back half of the 3rd period. There's your game in a nutshell.

Re: Ncha 11-12

Adrian pulls it out after a 3-3 tie in regulation by pulling the goalie at 3:06 in the extra game scoring with the extra attacker at 3:19.

Gutsy call gets results.

Re: Ncha 11-12

It's over between Adrian and UWSP...

1-0 Adrian 20 seconds into the 2nd period. PP goal.

It was a very, very entertaining weekend of hockey in Adrian. Both teams should be proud of how they played, especially Point since they were the underdogs. They certainly didn’t get “rolled” over this weekend.

In the first game, Adrian outplayed Point, but Point got a key goal at the end of the first period and then two quick goals in the 3rd, one on a PP and the other one just after the penalties expired. Point got a few lucky bounces, and their goalie came up big.

In the second game, all of the scoring came on PPs with the exception of the winning goal by Adrian in OT. Point had a chance to tie the game, but with 1:40 second left in OT, Adrian scored. It was not a gutsy move for Adrian to pull their goalie – it was a must do as a tie would have meant that Point moved on.

In the mini game, Point had some PP opportunities, but could not capitalize. A Point goal was disallowed near the end of regulation with a player in the crease call. Pictures show the player was in the crease, but clearly not interfering with the goalie [not sure if this was a good call or not]. My only regret of the weekend was that the referees did not let the players decide the outcome of this mini-game on their own. After regulation, when the Zamboni doors opened to resurface, one of the referees clearly gave the F’nheimer like he was disgusted the game was continuing. Then, about 15 seconds into the OT, an interference penalty was called on Point. I don’t believe a penalty like this should be called in OT. It was called far away from the play and did not affect the play. The outcome of the game might have been the same without this penalty call, but that would have been okay. Even losing on a PP goal for a legitimate penalty would have been okay. But having the ref clearly make a call simply to get the game over was not okay – the players deserved better.

That aside, Point played outstanding hockey and certainly gave Adrian a run for their money. After the sadness of losing wears off, the Point girls should feel good about how they played this weekend and hold their heads high. While they lose 3 great senior players, they have a good core of younger players to build around, and I see good things for this team in the future. Good luck to Adrian in playoffs.

Re: Ncha 11-12

The call in overtime was interference on the opening face-off, something Point was getting away with all afternoon. The Adrian girl was virtually hog-tied on the play. I don't think Stevens Point had much left in the tank at that point. I didn't see the shot totals in the mini-game, but Adrian outshot UWSP 17-2 after the 2nd period of the full game.

I will agree, the officiating was ****-poor all weekend, and those were Division I men's referees who never should have been given orange bands in the first place.

I saw on the live stats after the end of regulation of the mini that shots were 15-10 in favor of SP. I'm sure all of the Power Plays they had factored into the shot advantage.

Re: Ncha 11-12

That's a fair assessment. Adrian took about 3 penalties in a row early in the mini-game, and Point had a 5x3 for more than a minute and did not convert.

I'd say the better team advanced from this series. Adrian controlled play for the first 40 minutes on Friday night, and for most of the 2nd half of yesterday's game. They had plenty of chances and did not convert on Friday. Otherwise we're not even talking about a mini-game here.

And I do agree with DedicatedFan. Stevens Point played their asses off this weekend, and almost came out with the series. They have absolutely nothing to hang their heads about. They don't owe anybody anything for any reason.

I was pretty surprised when I saw the score on Friday...especially with the trip they had to make. I will be the first to admit I didn't give Point much of a chance here....and by all accounts they really should have come away with the win. Definitely nothing to be ashamed of.

It sucks that the Adrian/UWS game starts at 3:30 next friday...with the time difference i'll miss most of the game probably since I'll still be teaching.

Thanks for the view of the game.

I will still stand by my call of gutsy, though. I know it was a score or go home situation. Adrian had been having the best of SP, though. Usually a coach waits until about 1 minute to go to pull the goalie. Two minutes of keeping it in the zone to avoid the empty net is rather difficult. It often involves more than one shift which is where you have that risk of giving up the empy netter.

That being said, I'm in agreement that the calling of penalties in OT situations needs to be looked at very carefully.

Re: Ncha 11-12

The finals are set.

#3 Adrian @ #2 UW-Superior @ 3pm
#4 Lake Forest @ #1 River Falls @ 7pm

Championship game at 4pm on Saturday.

Of course the games will be played at Hunt arena on River Falls Campus. I'm assuming they will have their wonderful webcast going...ladyfalconsfan??

Adrian/Superior should be interesting. Early in the year Adrian beat and tied UWS. The 'Jackets always seem to struggle against Adrian. However, I will still predict Superior to come out on top. They seem to be back on track after their late season lapse, and have their sights set on the ultimate goal. Adrian struggled with Stevens Point, Lake Forest and so on lately.

Lake Forest has already upset River Falls once this year. I think they would have to play a pretty much perfect game to win this one...but it is a possibility.

Re: Ncha 11-12

honestly, your guess is as good as mine. i do know that RF tends to step up their broadcasting efforts during tourney time. if they do good at broadcasting, it would be nice if somebody would keep the scores updated as i will be snowboarding up in the U.P.
