Ncha 11-12

Re: Ncha 11-12

After todays results the standings are

1. River Falls (35pts)
2. Superior (26pts)
3. Lake Forest (25pts)
4. St. Scholastica (23pts)
5. Adrian (22pts)
6. Stevens Point (19pts)
7. St Norbert(18pts)
8. Eau Claire (15pts)
9. Concordia (12pts)

Things we know for sure...River Falls wins the NCHA

Superior holds tiebreakers over Lake Forest, Adrian holds tie breaker over Superior
Stevens Point holds tie breaker over SNC, CSS, and UWEC; but loses it to Adrian

What could happen next weekend.

Superior needs to take 3 points from CSS to guarantee their 2nd place finish as they hold the tie breaker over Lake Forest. St Scholastica could move ahead of Superior if they sweep next weekend.

Adrian could move into 3rd with a sweep of Lake Forest next weekend. (If Superior sweeps CSS, if CSS splits or ties, they win tie breaker over Adrian)

Lake Forest could drop to 5th if swept and CSS takes a game from UWS

St Norbert should sweep Marian, but the way the Sabres are playing lately thats definitely not a given anymore.
Eau Claire should sweep Finlandia securing their 8th spot and the trip to River Falls

That leaves the pressure on Stevens Point to take 3pts from CUW to hold on to 6th place. St Norbert needs the Pointers to lose a game in order to move up.

So Final Standings could look like

1. River Falls
2. Superior(most likely..will at least split with CSS and I don't think Lake Forest will fair well in Adrian)
3. Adrian/CSS (I predict Adrian sweeps Lake Forest, this really comes down to how the UWS/CSS series goes)
4. Adrian/CSS(see #3)
5. Lake Forest
6. SNC/UWSP(come on Concordia..do me a solid :) )
7. SNC/UWSP
8. Eau Claire

So looking for playoff potential.

1st Round
UWEC @ River Falls(guaranteed)
UWSP @ Superior(again) (i'd much rather see them visit than the Green Nights.)
SNC @ Adrian(I'm going out on a limb and saying that Adrian finishes 3rd)
Lake Forest @ CSS

This is my guess...i might have made a mistake somewhere in my calculations but I think they are right.

Your calculations look pretty good.

I can't see Adrian taking all 4 points from LF next weekend though. The only playoff team they've taken 4 points from was UWSP. If they take 3, they lose the tiebreaker and probably get a rematch with LF in Illinois.

I agree that the RF - Eau Claire is the only match that is certain. Of course, Eau Claire has been another team (like Adrian) that has had problems taking 4 points from anyone, but they are the only team in the NCHA to take points from both RF and Superior. Can't find my head scratching emoticon to insert here. So while they have given both top teams a run for the money in one game, they it doesn't look like they can take 2 of 3 from a top team.

As to the 2 through 7 seeds, throw a blanket over them - even Superior which has only won 1 game (against Eau Claire) where they have given up 3 goals. You can't win a tournament if you cannot overcome a deficeit.

Re: Ncha 11-12

They probably wanted a chance to win. Kuechle has not played well this year in close games or behind this year. I think its only emergency relief of Deardorff in the postseason and that might even be Rasmussen, despite her inexperience at the collegiate level.

RF also has a commitment from Irondale goalie Gillian McDonald for next year according to Let's Play Hockey, so she could become the #1 netminder next year as a freshman. I should say Kuechle's numbers are good 1.85 GAA, .930 SV %, just seems as though she struggles in key moments this season and when she lets one in there are usually 1-2 that will follow in quick succession like tonight 5 shots in the third and two goals less than two minutes apart.

Re: Ncha 11-12

Top 5 seeds are set

1. UWRF
2. UWS
3. Adrian
4. Lake Forest(lake forest wins tie breaker)
5. St. Scholastica
6.
7.
8. Eau Claire

Just waiting on the results of UWSP/Concordia

Re: Ncha 11-12

Steven's Point gets the win so looks like final standings are

1. UWRF
2. UWS
3. Adrian
4. Lake Forest(lake forest wins tie breaker)
5. St. Scholastica
6. Stevens Point
7. St Norbert
8. Eau Claire

Playoff matchups are
#8 UWEC @ #1 UWRF (UWRF sweeps)
#7 St Norbert @ #2 Superior (Superior takes 3pts)
#6 UWSP @ #3 Adrian (Adrian sweeps)
#5 CSS @ #4 Lake Forest (CSS wins in minigame)

Re: Ncha 11-12

I believe with last nights results Superior has locked up 2nd place, Eau Claire locked up 8th. So 1, 2, and 8 are set :)

Today is military appreciation day in Superior, girls will be wearing camouflage uniforms should be pretty cool....so check it out on

www.ifan.tv/ads/uws/uws.html

Would even be more interesting if Norwich would wear camouflage, considering that it is a SMC (Senior Military College) where the primary mission is to commission officers into the armed forces. It is kind of disappointing that only 2 of the girls on the hockey team are actually in the program there (where about 80% of the students are actually in the program). Oh well.

The uniforms they wore were pretty sweet. They would look good even in Norwich colors

Re: Ncha 11-12

Might as well discuss the playoffs

Playoff matchups are
#8 UWEC @ #1 UWRF
#7 St Norbert @ #2 Superior
#6 UWSP @ #3 Adrian
#5 CSS @ #4 Lake Forest

UWEC @ UWRF
Eau Claire did tie River Falls earlier this season. River Falls has slumped over the past few weeks, but I think Cranston will whip them into shape and River Falls will sweep this series.

St Norbert @ Superior

These two teams split in Superior earlier. Superior winning 3-1 and SNC winning 1-0. This match-up does scare me a little, but I think Superior will get their act together at the right time and win this series...either sweep or a win and tie.

UWSP @ Adrian
Adrian swept this series on the road earlier in the year..and I see them having little problem sweeping the series again at home.

CSS @ Lake Forest
This is an interesting matchup. I think CSS is the better team, having watched them last weekend. I think we see a mini game here, with Scholastica coming out on top.

I would have to agree that UWRS will sweep Eau Claire and Adrian should have no difficulty with Stevens Point. I think goaltending could decide the Lake Forest series and I think if Superior comes to play they can take out St Norbert. Any idea when the all conference teams are announced and any predictions to who will make up those teams.

The men's all conference teams were announced on Thursday of last week, so I would assume then.

For Forwards--based mainly on stats
I would expect at least one of the Waidacher's (definitely Nina) will make the 1st team, probably Katie Batters from UWRF, potentially Schulz from UWS or Marvin from UWSP.

Defensmen

Graham or Kaskiw from UWS or could be Kelly Salis from Adrian

Goalie

hard to say...my money is on Deardorff...but Shanley Peter's has better overall stats in conference. Katie Aluia from SNC is pretty high in both save % and GAA for the conference play.

Not sure this matters for deciding All Conference this season, but Marvin reached her 100 career point last weekend.

I would have to go with N Waidacher, D Schultz and K Batters although they could put Schulz on all rookie team and put the other Waidacher sister in.(not sure if they take that into consideration)
On defence I would go with Graham and Kaskiw from UWS. In net Peters leads in conference and is highest ranking NCHA goalie in d3 hockey so would give it to Peters and then Deardorff although Aluia has also had a good year .
