NCAA Hockey - 2023/24 **Insert Witty Tagline**

That’s a good point. They’d gain six points but MN and MSU would only lose one and two points, so they’d still be up leas than a game with four more played.

Not sure how the schedule got that imbalanced, and it’s been that way since early on.

I think this happened to the goofs as well last year. I think.

imbalanced schedules really aren't good for the teams or the conference. I do think all teams should be within two games of each other by December break.

Independents discussing plan to create tournament for an autobid.

I’ve seen something similar at the D3 level in something called the Coast 2 Coast where schools from all over the country would play independent schedules but come together for a tournament at the end of the year to get autobids. However, I think that was still technically a conference and it was multiple sports. Not sure how that would work if they don’t create a conference or the one sport conference moratorium doesn’t end.

What's old is new again, the NCAA did this from 1988 to 1992 benefiting Merrimack (1988), St. Cloud (1989), and UAA (1990, 1991, and 1992).

They would NOT get an autobid. In fact, the article even states that. Unless they actually form a conference, just having an independent end of season tournament does not qualify for an autobid. It doesn't even qualify for extra games. The games would count towards your 34 limit.

Missed that paragraph on the autobid. Guess I don’t get the point of it then besides giving the guys a taste of tournament play. There’s going to be six independent teams next year (I think that’s when TN State starts), so will some teams need to set aside three games if they don’t get a bye to the semis? Will there be consolation games so everyone can fill out a full schedule? Seems like this is getting the framework together to start a conference, but the article also notes Stonehill and LIU may not want to join because they’re still trying to get into the AHA.

But, if there is a new conference, would Huntsville come back?

I was wondering about the logistics also. There has to be consolation rounds, otherwise no team is going to want to enter a tournament which could cause them to have less than 34 games on the season.

A lot of independents are forced to end their season before the normal regular season ends, because conference teams no longer have dates for nonconference games the last few weeks. So, this allows these independents to play a normal length schedule. And provide them some end of season "playoff" experience, as you state.

Lots of interesting results tonight.

BC drops one at home to Merrimack, dropping them to #2 in the Pairwise.
MSU goes to #1 beating PSU 6-4 behind 4 goals from Isaac Howard. And now alone in first place after Ohio State blows out Minnesota 5-1.

63rd NMU beats 14th Minnesota State 3-2 for just their second win of the season. Though somehow Minnesota State has only dropped one spot in the Pairwise from that.
60th Army nearly gets double digits in a 9-1 win over 64th Mercyhurst.

MSU blew two points today. Gave up a late goal and then lost the shootout to PSU. Still will have the lead going into next week in the Big Ten and may still hold on to the #1 Pairwise slot.

Mercyhurst has hit rock bottom. After last night Army came out and beat them 13-1 today. A 22-2 weekend.
