NCAA Hockey - 2023/24 **Insert Witty Tagline**

Caught a little bit of Ferris-Alaska and Ferris was horrendous. It’s been bad for a while now and the university doesn’t seem to be putting any pressure on Daniels. I have nothing to base it on but I really hope they aren’t just letting Daniel ride it out to retirement and then shutter the program. Football and basketball have had tons of success lately while they’ve let their flagship sport wither seemingly without care.

And a couple weeks later Daniels announces his retirement after this season. 36 years in Big Rapids.

Tonight at mariucci, I was surrounded by about 20 children in suits, who were clearly a hockey team. I asked them who they were, and turns out it was the shattuck st Mary hockey team. They had a free weekend so got gopher tickets for the whole team.

I asked the guy next to me (who was adorably polite) if any of them were committed to D1 teams. Colorado college, Yale and Harvard were represented in my row.

not sure how many fans of those teams are here. Seemed like great kids.

and they cheered for all five gopher goals and I explained Culver’s to them

the best part?

one of them was from a west coast town, where a college buddy of mine happened to end his nhl career. I spoke about going there to watch a friend play, and the kid asked me who my friends name was. I told him, and he said, “huh, no, my dad would know him tho”

my friend retired within the last six years. I am humbled

Great story, thanks for sharing it.

MSU returns home tonight after a long stretch of 1 home game in 11. Hopefully gives them a bit of a reset. The third period has been their strongest but three of the last four games they’ve given up a late goal to go to OT, and it finally got them a loss last night.

After getting pretty soundly beat in the first three meetings this season, Michigan Tech avoided the season sweep by sneaking a 1-0 OT win out of Mankato tonight. Eagan native Ryan Manzella picked up his second career shutout, while playing in just his fifth game since enrolling and joining the team right before the GLI.

Looking ahead to next weekend, the Huskies are going to need a lot more goals as they have a second home-and-home series against a surging NMU team.

That was like the third or fourth time has given up a last minute tying goal. Ugh.

At least they won the shootout so the chances at the Governor's Cup are still decent.

Big series in EL this weekend against the Gophers. #2 v #3 in the Pairwise. Media polls may change up after each team dropped a game in OT, but I would still expect a Top-4 matchup. A sweep by MSU would give them a 2.33 game cushion in the standings, a sweep by Minnesota would give them a 5 point lead, and a split would set up a sprint for the last eight games of the season.

For the 4th straight season...SCSU has a 6 game conference winless streak...Larson can go anytime IMO...

He was supposed to come in with a talent for scouting. Either he was over-sold on that account, or SCSU’s other woes regarding attracting and retaining on-campus students is hurting too much.

I think he can coach, but he needs the talent. His performance feels like he’s Opposite Dahlie Llama. He had a good team, not stellar, and took them to the championship game, which was more that I thought that team had in it. He keeps getting the Huskies ranked for parts of the season, and the past two seasons, I just don’t think they’ve had enough on-ice talent to sustain that level of performance to the end.

On the other hand, I started at SCSU when they were bringing in some really big gets, and Dahl squandered that talent time and again. I don’t hold anything against Parrish for taking off after his freshman year, not Cullen after his sophomore year. Whatever Herb saw in Dahl, he’s the only guy to have ever seen it, IMO.

I don't think he can in game adjust and I do think we were oversold on his recruiting abilities...i also don't think he knows how to coach up high talent players either as I can't remember the last draft pick we had who showed strong progress from the time they got here till when they left. Unfortunately we're stuck with him and i have no illusions that if he does leave in whatever capacity that we'll replace him with anyone with college head coaching experience. This just seems to be who we are.

50 years as a hockey fan and tonight for the first time I saw a pulled goalie return without a stoppage.
