NCAA DIII Rankings Projections

Re: NCAA DIII Rankings Projections

Disregard, I see this is the USCHO ranking, NCAA still not up......sorry!!

It is up now. Choose DIII regional rankings - the first thing you see is USCHO, but click on the little tab on the left and select the regional rankings and they are up to data as of March 2.

Re: NCAA DIII Rankings Projections

Code:
                WIN OPP OOP SOS RNK
NOR .833 .539 .484 .521 .625
PLT .820 .581 .510 .588 .625

Plattsburgh has an advantage in three of these categories, Norwich has a smaller advantage in one of them, and they tie the last one....so why is Norwich ranked ahead of Plattsburgh? Deja vu - this appears to be the same issue that went on in the men's rankings for a week......

They are so close in every category...I'm guessing it has more to do with Norwich 3 Plattsburgh 1 back in January

Re: NCAA DIII Rankings Projections

Plattsburgh 4, Norwich 2 back in December.....

Oops I scanned Plattys schedule quick to see if they had played previously and missed that. Still though if it went to secondary criteria, which I don't know why it would, the January game would have more affect then that early december game I believe. Its a mystery I suppose.

The west one baffles me slightly. I'd rather see one of the MIAC teams in the rankings that are still alive in at #7 over Lake Forest. I'd like to see Concordia move into that spot. Similar to Norwich/Platty..but clearly not as important... Concordia wins win%, ranked, Lake FOrest wins SOS slightly and COP slightly.

Even Bethel wins win % slightly, takes COP slightly, SOS is tied and Lake Forest takes ranked by a larger percentage.

The SOS is only one category in the process. OOP and OPP are what make your SOS and those are weighted now this year with 2/3rds weight giving to OPP and 1/3rd to OOP.

The primary criteria used are:

Winning percentage: Norwich wins.
SOS: Plattsburgh wins
H2H: Split 1-1
Common opponents: Norwich wins.
Record vs NCAA Ranked Teams: Which is still tied with both teams having .625 WP.

Norwich wins the criteria 2-1. That's why they are ahead.

If common opponents is a criteria, why don't they include it on their spreadsheet?

Re: NCAA DIII Rankings Projections

hypothetically RIT Wins West,Mville Wins East may eliminate Plattsburgh from NCAA's. If Norwich is ahead of them head to head in the NCAA criteria.

it would still be Norwich, Platty as pool C's unless River Falls loses...which they are going too! so you're right

Re: NCAA DIII Rankings Projections

There's only one SOS value that is used. That is the combined value. Plattsburgh beats NU on that, but as for common opponent, we have Norwich 4- 1- 1 Plattsburgh 4- 2- 3

I understand that. I was saying that Plattsburgh win percentage is .820 and Norwich's is .833...are they really going to give Norwich that category with such a insignificant margin? Is it that cut and dry, whoever's percentage is higher wins the category?

Re: NCAA DIII Rankings Projections

You would think that with a significant edge in SOS for Plattsburgh, that win % would be less critical.

It seems every year, with 5 autobids and 2 at-large, that some relatively insignificant event could screw up everyone's season. If Norwich loses their conference playoff, then either Plattsburgh or the NESCAC runner up is likely to stay home, and it could all come down to the disallowed goal that Middlebury had taken away in the Norwich game. Go you Cadets!!!
